The aim of this paper is to diagnose the sufficiency of first-year pedagogy students’ discoursive competence, considering lexical, reading comprehension and written competences. Whit this objective, three instruments were designed and adapted, one for each competence: lexical availability test, reading comprehension test and rubric to evaluate an argumentative writing task. Among the main findings, it stands out that the highest performance corresponds to performance in reading, over writing and lexicon, respectively. It is concluded that the obtained results allow classifying the performances in initial levels and that, although it is not possible to speak of the existence of a correlation, the closest links are between reading-writing, lexicon-writing and lexicon-reading, respectively.

In October 2019, the so-called ‘social outbreak’ took place in Chile, a major socio-political conflict that led to an unprecedented constitutional change in the country. Under this context, the feminist movement takes on a prominent role, not only because of the massiveness of its demonstrations but also because of its influence on the achievement of gender parity in the constitutional process. The experiences of the protests were captured in the countless graffiti that have propagated in urban spaces since the social outbreak and which, even today, abound in certain areas. The aim of this study is to analyse the conceptual metaphors expressed in graffiti related to the Chilean protest. The methodology includes three instances of analysis: (1) the identification of linguistic metaphors; (2) their semantic-discursive grouping; and (3) the conceptual analysis of the established groups, in which the ‘Basic Scene’ (Rivano, 1999) component is considered. As a result, the conceptual metaphor PROTEST IS WAR is proposed, which conceptualises Chileans as warriors fighting against an enemy, represented by the political institutionality, the economic model and the patriarchal system. It is concluded that the established metaphor sets out a cognitive dichotomy that highlights the opposition between the participants in the Chilean social conflict and the demonstrators’ discomfort with the current system, emphasising its commitment and unity with the reasons to protest.

In the following paper, the historical development of the verb (meter), particularly its auxiliary uses as an inchoative and causative construction is analyzed. The objective is to formulate a contrast between the American and Peninsular varieties; the latter represented by Comer’s research (2018). For the contrast of dialect varieties, four analysis criteria were selected: syntactic fixation, syntactic incorporation, the animacy of the subject, and the dynamicity of the infinitive. In this sense, the study is based on the grammaticalization theory and on construction grammar. The data analyzed have been extracted from historical corpus such as CORDE and CORDIAM. In conclusion, it is described that the American use of the verb (meter) shows a higher degree of grammaticalization in terms of the degree of formal fixation and syntactic incorporation, while the peninsular use is more grammaticalized in relation to the animacy of the subject and the dynamism of the infinitive. Moreover, evidence in favor of a greater syntactic conservatism of American Spanish is provided.

This article addresses the philosophical debate between Hegelian idealism and Nietzschean vitalism that arises within the framework of modern philosophy. It is a transition in which the conception and use of language and grammar come to have fundamental ontological connotations, which can be appreciated very well in the contrast of the main texts of each author: Phenomenology of the spirit and Thus spoke Zarathustra, which have made up the corpus of this study. To observe their grammatical structures, an analysis using the new computational tools and approaches suggested from the most recent approaches of the digital Humanities has been seen opportune. It is a quantitative approach that tries to complement the close reading that a specialist can carry out. Specifically, natural language processing (known as NLP) has been applied, through a pre-trained model and by programming in R. It has been possible to detect the type of terms used in both texts, distinguishing their different grammatical functions, the dependencies between terms and the verb tenses. The article shows, quantitatively, how distant the two philosophers are and how they use grammar equally tenaciously to express and give to understand their ideas. From their philosophies it can be affirmed that grammar and ontology form a unit: grammar is used to reinforce philosophical ideas as much as these ideas are already derived, formed, in the grammatical structures themselves. Finally, computational tools prove to be, through this article, a pertinent complement for philosophical analysis.

The objectives of the research were to describe the performance of high school students in a direct assessment and an indirect assessment of writing and to determine the degree of relationship between performance in both tests. The methodology was quantitative and included the participation of a sample of high school seniors in Chile (n = 143). The participants took a direct assessment of writing, specifically an argumentative essay evaluated in 8 dimensions; and an indirect assessment, which corresponded to exercises in the use of connectors and sentence order. In the study, we found that the students presented an average performance in the direct and indirect evaluation. In the direct evaluation, the dimensions Spelling, Coherence, Cohesion and Use of arguments were the lowest-performing. Finally, we found that there is no correlation between performance in the direct and indirect assessment of writing.

This article revises the drama production of Deyanira Urzúa de Calvo, a Chilean writer from the early twentieth century. Her avoided figure is fundamental to comprehend the development of the dramatist profession, as well as the thematic and formal lines that characterized the years when Chilean drama was founded, and that continued to be followed beyond the creation of university drama. Part of her large work in historical drama, comedy and plays for children is analyzed. Her work helps to comprehend the development of Chilean drama written by women, and evinces transformation processes, more than Romantic rupture.
本文对20世纪初智利作家Deyanira Urzúa de Calvo的戏剧作品进行了修订。她被回避的形象是理解戏剧家职业发展的基础,也是理解智利戏剧创立年代的主题和正式线条的基础,这些线条在大学戏剧创作之后继续被遵循。本文分析了她在历史剧、喜剧和儿童戏剧方面的部分大型作品。她的作品有助于理解智利女性戏剧的发展,并展示了转型过程,而不仅仅是浪漫的破裂。
