It presents the particular case of a strong house that existed in the territory of Santa Marta, where the indigenous populations strongly opposed the conquest. The article uses archival sources, academic texts, and fieldwork to reconstruct the meaning of this and other buildings in the area of study, presenting new information on the history of social relations in Santa Marta.

The text analyzes, from a micro perspective, the actions of the clergy of the Diocese of Santa Marta in the context of the struggle between civil and Catholic authorities, motivated by the liberal reformism of the mid-nineteenth century. It examines the way in which religious officials resolved the dilemma of acceptance or rejection of the oath of office and came out ahead of the pressures exerted on them by government agents and the religious hierarchy. The article argues that the clergymen were autonomous in their decisions, as well as successful in developing strategies according to their individual, doctrinal or partisan interests.

The article examines how and under what circumstances the bananeras massacre was invoked between 1929 and 2008. The purpose is to study the role of collective memory as an articulator of justice aspirations and political practices in subaltern sectors of Colombia. During the period it was common to mention the event as an unhappy date, through acts that were mediated by the political circumstances of the time. The article concludes that the commemoration of the massacre de las bananeras served not only to remember, but also to forge and strengthen political identities in specific sectors of the population.

This article analyzes the transfer of the city of Santiago de las Atalayas in 1780, analyzing the city ideals of the time and the diverse environmental and physical conditions expressed by those in favor or against this determination. The article explores how a community understood the city and the diverse strategies to procure its sustainability and durability. The transfer of an urban center generates questions about the factors that contributed to the sustainability or permanence of cities and why they were accepted or rejected when their preservation was sought.
