The hype in the past few years for medium-size and large companies involved in service or solution delivery is about service-oriented-architecture (SOA). Web services respond to the need to provide loosely-couple software services to cater for the business needs. This involved further abstraction of software component by providing remote users an interface defined in XML, more commonly known as the Web service definition language (WSDL) instead of directly accessing binaries. In this paper we explore recent findings in the implementation of Web services in context-aware areas. The security issues that may surface are identified and methods of countering those security threats are proposed. The main emphasis is the challenge to design effective access control and trust-based models for Web services environment.

Bluetooth is a promising short-range radio network technology. We present a low cost and easily deployed, scalable infrastructure for indoor location-based computing of mobile devices based on the Bluetooth technology. The system consists of 2 main components, namely the Bluetooth (BT) Sensor System and the Central Navigation System which have been developed using the JDK 1.6. The Bluetooth Sensor System allows mobile devices whose Bluetooth mode is set to discoverable, to be scanned and detected, and they receive customizable text message and other relevant files (maps, sound files, video clips) of their positioning information, e.g. room identity. The positioning information is also sent to the Central Navigation System which in turn displays and updates the navigation map. The system is also used to track the movement of different BT mobile devices within the implemented environment.

In this paper, we propose a Voronoi detection range adjustment method that utilizes distributed Voronoi diagram to delimit the area of responsibility for each sensor. We then use genetic algorithm to optimize the most suitable detection range for each sensor. Simulations show that VERA outperforms maximum detection range, K-covered [Huang and Tseng, 2003], and greedy [Cardei et al., 2006] methods in terms of reducing the overlaps among detection ranges, minimizing energy consumption, and prolonging network lifetime.

Home appliance control system is a legitimate need of people nowadays. Digital home providers like to install their own network and provide home network enabled appliances. It implies customers need to replace existing appliances with new expensive home network enabled appliance. In this paper, a simple but reliable approach to control home appliances is presented. In this approach, we use infrared ray and power line communication integration in our home appliances control system. This system supports the ubiquitous access control mechanism which enables users to check their appliances' statuses and control them remotely through their cellular phone or Internet.

The general organization principles for the information service Trassa-Mobil are stated in article. They are make possible to estimate the situation of the road-transport network in real time. This information service is offered for cellular network's users in the main and based on video monitoring for the road-transport network. The service is proposed to use for the city conditions mainly. The main monitoring algorithms and expressions are brought to calculate the car traffic parameters.

In indoor environment, one of the major challenges for researchers is to localize the sensor nodes with relatively high localization precision. Many traditional positioning algorithms dealt with the node localization issues, such as two-phase positioning (TPP) algorithm, without taking into account the "reference node" parameter, however which also strongly affects the quality of spatial localization. We analyze the localization error and draw the conclusion that the localization error is the least when three reference nodes form an equilateral triangle. Therefore, we propose reference node selection algorithm based on trilateration (RNST). The simulation results show that our algorithm can meet real-time localization requirement of the mobile nodes in indoor environment, and make the localization error less than that of the traditional algorithm.

The emerging ultra wideband (UWB) system offers a great potential for the design of high speed short-range wireless communications. In order to satisfy the growing demand for higher data rates and high capacity, one possible solution is to exploit both spatial and multipath diversities via the use of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and proper coding techniques. In this paper, we proposed two kind of special space time (frequency) coded structure to improve the system performance at MB-OFDM system, space-time block coded MB-OFDM (STBC-MB-OFDM) UWB and space-time-frequency coded MB-OFDM (STFC-MB-OFDM) UWB. Then the STFC-MB-OFDM transmission scheme that we propose in this paper is a simple method with low complexity for improving the performance of conventional STBC-MB-OFDM. The simulation result indicated that, under the revision S-V channel model, the system has increased the channel capacity, STBC-MB-OFDM system may obtain the better diversity gain under the low signal to noise ratio, and STFC-MB-OFDM based on orthogonal preceding is more BER performance than the single antenna system.

In this paper, a novel cyclic convolution method is proposed to reduce the peak-to -average-power ratio (PAPR) of the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals. This method transforms the parallel signals of OFDM into other parallel signals with lower PAPR by cyclic convolution operation. With cyclic convolution by an appropriate vector, a significant reduction of PAPR can be obtained. The simulation by MATLAB exhibits that the PAPR can be restricted within 7dB, nevertheless the increasing of the complexity is relatively little.

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless antenna systems are known as the effective means to achieve high capacity over wireless links. In this paper, we propose an adaptive packet-by-packet scheduling scheme, which considers channel state information, user's average throughput, and queueing state information when making scheduling decision. Our proposed scheduler, adaptive proportional fairness with queue length consideration (APF-Q), is work conserving and can provide low delay of users in a fair way. Numerical results taking into consideration traffic characteristics and the mobility of users demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed APF-Q scheduler.
