A sounding method based on OFDM modulation for PLC channel measurement 一种基于OFDM调制的PLC信道测量测深方法

The measurement and characterization of electric power grid as medium to provide data communication is a task of practical importance for understanding signal propagation and impairment as well as pursuing new generation of power line communication (PLC) technologies. With this regards, this contribution aims at discussing a channel estimation methodology that is constituted by a sounding technique for channel estimation, a time synchronization technique, and a measurement setup. This methodology allow to measure linear time invariant, time variant, and periodically time variant PLC channels if the clock offset between the transmitter and receiver devices of the measurement setup is irrelevant. Measurement results reveal the effectiveness of this methodology for estimating PLC channels.

The characterization of hybrid PLC-wireless channels: A preliminary analysis plc -无线混合信道的特性:初步分析

This work aims at measuring, characterizing, and analyzing hybrid channels for mobile data communication with power line communication (PLC) technologies. These channels denote the concatenation of power line and wireless as only one channel. A measurement setup and OFDM-based technique for channel estimation were applied to carry out a measurement campaign of hybrid channels in the PLC → wireless and wireless → PLC directions. Preliminary results as well as analysis when estimates of the hybrid channels cover the frequency band between 1.7 up to 100 MHz are presented. The attained results reveals that these hybrid channels are very challenging ones. Also, they could be useful for data communication if more investigation concerning the PLC coupling device, the antenna geometry, and theoretical formulation for the signal propagation through the hybrid channel is deeply investigated.

Narrow band power line channel characteristics for low voltage access network in China 中国低压接入网窄带电力线信道特性

The paper deals with narrow band power line channel for low voltage access network in China. Major channel characteristics such as access impedances, interferences, and attenuations for frequency between 30-500 kHz are evaluated based on measurements results in a typical urban underground network. Coupling mode has a significant impact on the performance of narrow band power line communication. Comparison of impedance, noise and attenuation between single phase and three phase coupling is given. Link Quality Index (LQI) derived from noise and attenuation is introduced to compare different channels. Examples of available SNR for the considered LV network using LQI approach with CENELEC A band signal such as PRIME are given.

MAC enhancements for G3-PLC home networks 针对G3-PLC家庭网络的MAC增强

In this paper, we propose enhancements at the medium access control (MAC) sub-layer for the G3-PLC technology. In particular, we develop a convergent network, consisting of different network devices, to easily integrate G3-PLC in Ethernet local area networks (LANs). The proposed network leads to coverage and throughput improvements for in-home/building applications. Furthermore, since the G3-PLC medium access control (MAC) scheme is based on carrier sense multiple access (CSMA), its performance decreases with the increasing number of network nodes. To overcome this problem, we propose to implement a contention-free MAC scheme based on time division multiple access (TDMA). In particular, we optimize the beacon-enabled mode of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. The convergent network performance is evaluated using an OMNeT++ simulation platform. Numerical results show considerable performance improvements in different network configurations.

We discuss the transmission over a power line channel that consists of two links. We determine the obtainable rates for time-, and frequency sharing with the “water-filling” argument. Then we show that the two link channel is equivalent to a degraded broadcast channel for which the capacity region is known. Power- and bandwidth constraints determine whether a repeater can improve performance. Another concept from multiuser Information theory, the multi access concept is useful for determining the transmission efficiency from multiple users to a single receiver.

High speed multimedia and smart energy PLC applications based on adaptations of HomePlug AV 基于HomePlug AV的高速多媒体和智能能源PLC应用

Broadband powerline communication systems are continuing to gain significant market adoption worldwide for applications ranging from high speed multimedia to Smart Grid applications. HomePlug AV is the most successful high speed PLC protocol and in fact was adopted as a major component of the IEEE 1901 standard. This paper provides an overview of the unique design choices made in the development of the MAC and PHY subsystems of HomePlug AV and describes how these capabilities were adapted and augmented for incorporation into the IEEE 1901 Standard. The paper also discusses an example of IEEE 1901 used as a Smart Grid enabler. The paper then proceeds to explain how HomePlug AV was adapted to form the recently released HomePlug Green PHY specification that uses robust HomePlug AV communication modes at 10 Mbps for Smart Energy applications. Finally the paper shows how HomePlug AV was augmented and enhanced to produce HomePlug AV 2.0 using MIMO and other capabilities to achieve speeds of up to 1.5 Gbps.

Physical layer security in PLC networks: Achievable secrecy rate and channel effects PLC网络中的物理层安全:可实现的保密率和信道效应

We consider confidential data communication over power line communication (PLC) networks. In particular, rather than analyzing cryptographic techniques, we focus on the security provided at the physical layer, named physical layer security (PLS). Although physical layer security is widely discussed for wireless systems, we can not say the same for the PLC context. As a starting point, the wireless case will be examined. Then, we highlight the differences with PLC and we compare the average secrecy rate that can be achieved in typical wireless and PLC fading channels. Both optimal and uniform power distributions are considered. The theoretical results show that wireless fading channels provide higher secrecy rate than PLC channels. This is due to different channel statistics and propagation scenario. To provide experimental evidence, we consider channel measures obtained in a in-ship and in a in-home measurement campaign. While log-normal fading fits well the former channels, the latter channels are not strictly log-normal. Furthermore, the considered in-home network topology introduces correlation among channels, and it is subject to the keyhole effect introduced by branches that depart from the same node. These effects can reduce the secrecy rate.

Non-intrusive power line quality monitoring based on power line communications 基于电力线通信的非侵入式电力线质量监测

The power line quality has a significant impact on the reliability, delivery efficiency and safety of the power grids and the demands for monitoring the power line quality efficiently at a low cost in the power grid are constantly increasing. In this paper, a non-intrusive power line quality monitoring technique based on the power line communication (PLC) technologies is proposed. Through channel estimation in PLC system, the channel frequency response (CFR) can be obtained. We study the relationship between the CFR and the power line quality features, and find that the changes of certain key channel characteristics of the CFR including the positions and values of the peaks or valleys, the distances between the peaks or valleys and so on could be used to monitor the power line quality in a non-intrusive manner. The computer simulations are also carried out to verify the proposed method and the results show that this method could predict the power line changes well without additional devices and costs.

Electromagnetic immunity analysis of a new interface device with power line communication for smart grid and energy storage applications 用于智能电网和储能应用的新型电力线通信接口器件的电磁抗扰度分析

An analysis of EMC standards related to smart grid devices with PLC port has been carried out and the standardization lacks have been pointed out with reference to the evaluation of electromagnetic immunity to narrowband, coming from other communication systems connected to the grid, and RF disturbances conducted disturbances, usually present in a power grid. In particular, the paper analyses the electromagnetic conducted immunity of a new interface protection device (ID) for smart grid and energy storage applications. The new ID is equipped with a measuring board, a STM32 microcontroller, for data elaboration and memorization, and a ST7580 N-PSK powerline transceiver. An experimental test procedure have been carried out in order to investigate the immunity of the ID prototype to narrowband and RF disturbances conducted disturbances, respectively for the frequency range 10-150 kHz and 150 kHz-30 MHz.

Power Line Communication (PLC) is a communication method where the existing Power Line carries data. The home automation associates the usual electrical cabling to the renewable plants for smart home, smart grid. The use of PLC technology permits the use of the existing electrical network for data transfer. The use of renewable energy helps to reduce the electrical energy consumption. The user can also sell back energy to the utility during his off time, daylight. The different components of a low voltage low wattage solar photovoltaic system are monitored by the end user. The characterization of the inverter as medium of communication permits the deployment of PLC technology over the solar photovoltaic energy system. Combined BFSK modulation and Manchester coding were implemented. At 120 bps, data were transferred over a 230 W modified sine wave inverter, simplex from the DC bus.
