Global ignorance about Africa continues to sustain inappropriate global interventions to resolve public health crises, often with disastrous consequences. To explain why this continues to happen, I marshal two theorems that predict basic statistical properties, called ‘the doctrinal paradox’ and ‘the discursive dilemma’, which underlie scientific consensus formation and evidence-based decision making on a global scale. These mathematical results illuminate the epistemic and material injustices committed by the protocols of medical research conducted at the highest level of global knowledge production in the service of international humanitarian aid for Africans. These social choice theorems reveal that a global scientific consensus projecting claims and proposing policies about Africa’s disease burden is likely to yield a low degree of reliability, in that the probability of its accuracy is less than chance. The solution to this anomaly is to remove from the global scientific agenda the statistically unrealisable demand of satisfying too many multinational corporate and foreign governments’ priorities as equally entitled to benefit from the knowledge produced to improve Africa’s public health sector. Instead, foreign funding targeted to support medical science and policy in Africa should be directed by those specialists in situ who are most familiar with their own national health challenges and potential solutions, rather than relying upon foreign decision makers to interpret Africa’s emergency public health care needs. Leadership inspires digital transformation. Values, skills, and behaviors of leaders are key in driving and leading organizational development processes. The aim of this study was to examine the existing scientific research and develop an integrative framework focused specifically on leadership competencies for digital transformation. For this purpose, a systematic literature review based on Web of Science and Scopus databases has been conducted. In order to analyze and synthetize the qualitative data, the method of content analysis was used. The identified leadership dimensions (competencies) are: why (vision, innovation, flexibility); what (understanding digital technologies, empowerment, collaboration); and how (multiple intelligences, experimentation, continuous learning). The resulting competency framework can be used in the field of business management by leadership and organizational development specialists, educators, as well as current and aspiring leaders of digital transformation. By implementing a proposed future research agenda, the presented results can be further validated, compared and contextualized.

The purpose of this paper is to determine the key dimensions of relationship marketing that influence customer satisfaction, as well as the impact of customer satisfaction on customer loyalty in a luxury hotel context. A survey was conducted on a convenience sample of 311 Croatian citizens who stayed in 5-star hotels in the year prior to the study. The research results show that not all dimensions of relationship marketing influence customer satisfaction. Competence, trust, and communication, as relationship marketing dimensions, have a statistically significant impact on customer satisfaction. The findings also suggest that customer satisfaction has a statistically significant influence on customer loyalty. This study contributes to the theory of relationship marketing. In addition, the obtained results have implications for hotel managers seeking to implement relationship marketing strategies to achieve customer satisfaction and loyalty.

The aim of this study was to determine the factors underlying domestic product (potato chip purchases) using an extended model of theory of planned behaviour (TPB). A systematic sample of 348 Croatian potato chip buyers was surveyed. Structural Equation Modelling by Partial Least Squares was used to test the hypotheses. The strongest positive predictor of this intention was the attitude about the purchase of domestic potato chips. The perceived behavioural control did not have a significant impact on the behaviour (actual purchase), while intention was a strong predictor of the intended behaviour. Consumer ethnocentrism predicted the attitudes, while habit had a strong impact on all variables in the TPB model. This study extended the TPB model by adding two constructs, habit and consumer ethnocentrism, and by investigating their predictive impacts. While TPB is usually used to predict the prosocial and healthy behaviour, this study extended the previous knowledge by focusing on snacks (potato chips), which is expected to be more habit-driven than planned.

This study explores the success relevance of business model components of digital start-ups from the perspective of German venture capital (VC) investors. In doing so, the study explains the importance of the business model in general and the importance of a convincing value proposition and a plausible revenue model in particular for the investment decision process of VC investors. The study takes an exploratory three-dimensional research approach that integrates the meso-perspective on the business model, the micro-perspective on the entrepreneurial personality, and the macro-perspective on the entrepreneurial context, thus operating in a very young research field. In contrast to most studies on this topic, this paper shows that the business model is not the key resource for the success of a start-up, while an early concept of a business idea might be. Communication and interaction with VC investors at this early stage can be valuable tools for the continuous development of the initial business idea.

The paper gives an overview of the most important principles and the most recent research in the field of the economics of happiness. Its aim is to improve the basis for public discussion and informed decision-making in policy creation and implementation. The concept of happiness attracted economists early on and their attitude towards it has changed with time. Modern happiness data represent a new, scientifically validated way of measuring progress, although there is still room for improvement. The research shows that key determinants of happiness include physical and mental health, social relations, income and institutions. Happiness in itself leads to a wide range of benefits for individuals and society. This kind of research can help policy creators decide on the role, nature, target recipients and priorities for relevant policies. All this demonstrates that happiness economics has a potential for addressing current needs and future tasks to build a happier society.

Umirovljenici danas čine jednu od najranjivijih kohorti u Republici Hrvatskoj, s izrazito niskim primanjima u odnosu na prosjek vlastite cjeloživotne zarade, ali i u odnosu na rastuće troškove života. Cilj ovog rada je utvrditi razinu primjerenosti mirovina u Republici Hrvatskoj prema trodimenzionalnom pristupu koji obuhvaća procjenu zadržavanja dohotka, siromaštvo i socijalnu isključenost te duljinu života u mirovini. Proučava se veći broj indikatora kako bi se mogle identificirati slabosti sustava i područja koja zahtijevaju daljnje analize i reforme. Usporedba sa zemljama članicama Europske unije smješta Hrvatsku na začelje prema većini indikatora razine mirovinskih primanja, a uz to su hrvatski umirovljenici izloženi i većem riziku od siromaštva, nego umirovljenici većine ostalih zemalja. Iz tog je razloga unaprjeđenje hrvatskog mirovinskog sustava kroz ostvarivanje primjerenih mirovina u srži Nacionalnog plana oporavka i otpornosti za razdoblje od 2021. do 2026. godine. Nalazi rada upućuju na zaključak da primjerenost mirovina treba biti veći prioritet dugoročnih reformi hrvatskog mirovinskog sustava od održivosti sustava, a mirovinske reforme trebaju biti praćene i reformama na tržištu rada i povezanim dijelovima financijskog sustava.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of bank loans on financing the business activities of manufacturing SMEs (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) in Kosovo. Increasing the level of production of these SMEs is vital for a transition economy such as Kosovo. Representatives of Kosovo's 200 SMEs were interviewed regarding loan barriers and financial support from local and EU (European Union) institutions. Kosovo has a limited number of manufacturing SMEs. The random sampling method was used as a sampling method. The data are cross-section. The collected data were analyzed through the probit model. The SPSS (Statistical Product and Service Solutions) program has also been used to derive statistical results. According to the achieved findings, Not consulting an expert and obtaining loans twice within the analyzed period are significant variables. The results confirm the hypotheses that manufacturing SMEs have obstacles in financing their activities through bank lending and collateral is important for facilitating bank lending.

Tercijarna razina zdravstvene zaštite trebala bi pružati visokospecijaliziranu zdravstvenu uslugu koja uključuje najsloženije metode i postupke dijagnostike, liječenja i rehabilitacije. U skladu s time, kvaliteta usluga na ovoj razini zdravstvene zaštite trebala bi biti na najvišoj razini, a menadžeri bi trebali posjedovati i provoditi sustav upravljanja kvalitetom. Cilj rada je ispitati povezanost dimenzija kvalitete zdravstvenih usluga na tercijarnoj razini zdravstvene zaštite u Bosni i Hercegovini, mjereno iz perspektive korisnika zdravstvene zaštite. Središnja hipoteza glasi: „Postoji statistički značajna povezanost između dimenzija kvalitete zdravstvenih usluga na tercijarnoj razini zdravstvene zaštite Bosne i Hercegovine.“ Istraživanje je provedeno anketnim putem na stratificiranom uzorku od 1022 korisnika zdravstvenih usluga svih pet tercijarnih kliničkih centara na području BiH. Istraživanjem je utvrđena statistički značajna korelacija između promatranih dimenzija kvalitete zdravstvenih usluga: opipljivosti, pouzdanosti, odaziva, sigurnosti i empatičnosti. Dobivene rezultate klinički menadžment može koristiti za implementaciju sustava upravljanja kvalitetom i poboljšanje kvalitete zdravstvenih usluga.

U skladu s time, kvaliteta usluga na ovoj razini zdravstvene zaštite trebala bi biti na najvišoj razini, a menadžeri bi trebali posjedovati i provoditi sustav upravljanja kvalitetom. Cilj rada je ispitati povezanost dimenzija kvalitete zdravstvenih usluga na tercijarnoj razini zdravstvene zaštite u Bosni i Hercegovini, mjereno iz perspektive korisnika zdravstvene zaštite. Središnja hipoteza glasi: „Postoji statistički značajna povezanost između dimenzija kvalitete zdravstvenih usluga na tercijarnoj razini zdravstvene zaštite Bosne i Hercegovine.“ Istraživanje je provedeno anketnim putem na stratificiranom uzorku od 1022 korisnika zdravstvenih usluga svih pet tercijarnih kliničkih centara na području BiH. Istraživanjem je utvrđena statistički značajna korelacija između promatranih dimenzija kvalitete zdravstvenih usluga: opipljivosti, pouzdanosti, odaziva, sigurnosti i empatičnosti. U ovom radu istražuje se koncentracija primjene prethodnih sporazuma o transfernim cijenama u zemljama Europske unije. Utvrđuje se imaju li zemlje Europske unije s višim bruto društvenim proizvodom više prethodnih sporazuma o transfernim cijenama na snazi u odnosu na zemlje s nižim bruto društvenim proizvodom te istražuje postojanje korelacije između broja prethodnih sporazuma o transfernim cijenama na snazi i bruto društvenog proizvoda u zemljama Europske unije. Istraživanje je obuhvatilo razdoblje od 2016. do 2019. godine, a za ostvarivanje postavljenih ciljeva istraživanja korištene su srednje vrijednosti, mjere disperzije, mjere koncentracije te koeficijent korelacije. Rezultati istraživanja su pokazali da u zemljama Europske unije postoji visoka koncentracija primjene prethodnih sporazuma o transfernim cijenama te da je većina sporazuma koji su na snazi koncentrirana u zemljama Europske unije s visokim bruto društvenim proizvodom. Također, rezultati istraživanja su pokazali nepostojanje korelacije između broja jednostranih prethodnih sporazuma o transfernim cijenama na snazi i bruto društvenog proizvoda, dok je između broja dvostranih i višestranih sporazuma na snazi i bruto društvenog proizvoda u zemljama Europske unije utvrđena jaka pozitivna korelacija.
