Performance of traditional content-based image retrieval systems is far from user’s expectation due to the “semantic gap” between low-level visual features and the richness of human semantics. In attempt to reduce the “semantic gap”, this paper introduces a new effective image retrieval approach-the multi-step queries strategy-that facilitates retrieval of semantically similar images from multi layers in the feature space. In the retrieval process, images are segmented three layers, raw pixel layer, blob feature layer and global image layer, and retrieval process is refined gradually. Moreover similarity between images is measured with an approximation of the earth mover’s distance (EMD), which quickly computes minimal-cost correspondences between sets of signatures. Experimental results in medical image database show that the proposed method in this paper is good enough to describe image information, and significantly improves the performance of the retrieval system.

In this paper, a new noise filtering, Threephase Distance Matrices Filter (TPDMF), for restoration of corrupted image by impulsive noise is presented. Whether images were attacked by random valued impulse or constant valued impulse, this method can restore corrupted images fast and effectively without iterative procedure. For avoiding oversmoothing after filtering, TPDMF uses distance matrices to preserve edge and detail of image. TPDMF consists of threephase: impulse detection, impulse verification and impulse noise cancellation. Impulse detection phase will pick up alleged pixels. It will be verified that it is impulse or not in second phase. Finally, the impulse noise will be replaced by estimated value. This algorithm uses the concept of distance matrices that be consist of median distance matrices and POI distance matrices produced by each pixel. Results from computer simulation show that TPDMF provides a signification improvement over many other existing techniques.

Using the framework of quotient image model, this paper presented a median filtering-based method (MFQI) for the illumination normalization of facial images. The proposed method first uses adaptive median filtering to derive an estimation of the received light, and then uses the quotient image model for local illumination normalization. Compared with the other quotient image methods, MFQI does not require any assumptions on lighting conditions and shadows, and is easy to be implemented. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method is effective in face recognition with varying lighting conditions, and can achieve high recognition accuracy using the Yale face database B.

According to disadvantages of wired transmission system in grain depot temperature test equipment, we design a distributed grain depot temperature monitor and control system based on wireless communication technology and single chip microprocessor technology, etc. Field slave computer realizes each grain depot condition temperature signal collection through 1-wire bus digital temperature sensor DS18B20. Single chip microprocessor MSP430F149 processes monitor signal and drives temperature control equipment to realize constant temperature control. Based on wireless transceiver chip nRF905, system can complete collection signal wireless communicate from grain depot monitor equipment to central computer, and central computer controller connects with upper PC by serial interface RS-232, which the distributed grain depot monitor and control system is carried out. This paper mainly introduces system’s structure, hardware and software design in detail.

The feature matching is the first step of severalcomputer vision duties. In this paper we provide a new feature detect and matching approach based on statistics of the gradients of the feature region. It is extension of the sift algorithm. The algorithm represented in this paper can be used to perform reliable matching to image sequence, which have larger change in 3D viewpoint and change in illumination. The new approach not only describes the local region structure but also statistic orientation histogram of periphery twelve 5X5 sample sub-region. The constructed descriptor has more robust distinguishability to support the following match step. In the matching step, by using polar, symmetry and uniqueness constraints to filter the tentative feature pairs, many outliers are eliminated and the correct feature pairs are obtained in the last step. By comparing with traditional Harris--Correlation matching algorithm as well as theoretical analysis, the algorithm that this article proposed has the higher stability as well as the anti-jamming.

Eye tracking is the focus problem in the researching domain of human-machine interaction and computer vision in recent years. The method of using a single eye location and detection algorithm has poor real-time performance. So a new eye tracking method is proposed in this paper. This method combines the location and detection algorithm with the grey prediction for eye tracking. The GM(1,1) model is used to predict the position of moving eye in the next frame, and then this position is taken as the reference point for the searching region of eye. The efficiency of eye tracking is improved in this way. Experimental results for image sequence of eye maneuvering show that the grey prediction model GM(1,1) can track eye region robustly and correctly because it doesn’t assume the moving law in advance, and weaken the effect of random disturbances by results of accumulated generating operation to explore the law of eye motion.

In this short note, arbitrage size and arbitrage profitability index (API) for a class of multi-period arbitrages are introduced. Then the arbitrage strategy based on the API is investigated and applied to the treasury bonds arbitrage.

Because of the particularities of wireless sensor networks, the design of MAC protocol in wireless sensor networks should be paid main attention to minimize the energy consumption. Many schemes, which have significant contributions in power saving, can be found. However, these schemes concentrate on reducing the end-to-end delay, or on the energy saving. This paper proposes a TDMA-based scheduling scheme that balances energy saving and end-to-end delay. This balance is achieved by an appropriate scheduling of the path, which is assigned by graph coloring method. Our approach consists of two phases: in the first phase, we use Genetic Algorithm to get the graph coloring strategy, and we use this scheme to color the each path of the networks; then, we use the solution of the edge-coloring to schedule. This proposed scheme achieves the reduction of the end-to-end delay caused by sleep state while it maximizes the energy savings at the same time.
