Tasks Beyond Instruction: A Case Study on Teachers’ Ancillary Functions 教学之外的任务:教师辅助功能的个案研究

Teachers play multi-faceted roles. In addition to teaching, they also perform duties not directly related to teaching but are part of school’s operations. As one of the rural schools in the Division of Ozamiz City, Sangay Integrated School teaching personnel are tasked to take multiple ancillary functions. This study explored the experiences of teachers having ancillary functions in Sangay IS for the School Year 2022-2023. It employed a case study research design where twelve (12) Sangay Integrated School served as the participants of this study. It utilized a semi-structured interview, and the data gathered were analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s thematic analysis. It generated five (5) themes, which answered the five (5) research problems. Based on the findings, teachers regard ancillary functions as additional tasks. These functions help teachers in their personal and professional development; however, time for instruction and family is sacrificed. To overcome this challenge, they employed workload management. They realized they needed assistance from more knowledgeable individuals to function effectively and efficiently, which can be done through mentoring, seminars, and training. It is recommended that school leaders may evenly distribute ancillary loads. Teachers may also create a checklist to balance their time well on what things are needed to do. An orientation for newly-appointed coordinators may also be done for their awareness of their responsibilities. The Department of Education may also employ a thorough and accurate time-use study that can clearly show which tasks should be assigned to teachers and which should be removed from their responsibility.

The Effect of Biology Teaching Materials on the Academic Performance of Senior Secondary School Students in Ilorin West, Ilorin, Kwara State 生物教材对Kwara州伊洛林西部伊洛林高中生学业成绩的影响

This study examined the impact of Biology instructional materials on the academic performance of senior secondary school students in Ilorin West LGA, Kwara State, Nigeria. It employed a descriptive survey research design and targeted Biology students in senior secondary schools. A random sampling technique was used to select 120 students. Data was collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using frequency count, percentage, mean, standard deviation, independent t-test, and ANOVA. The findings revealed a significant positive effect of Biology instructional materials on students' academic performance. Students taught with these materials outperformed those without them. However, no significant differences were found based on gender and class size. The study also highlighted the importance of school type, showing a substantial influence of Biology instructional materials on academic performance. Recommendations include the Ministry of Education providing instructional materials, Biology teachers incorporating them in lessons to foster competition, government support for public schools in obtaining instructional materials, and additional infrastructure like classrooms and laboratories..

Teachers’ Challenges and Coping Strategies in Conducting Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Activities 教师开展心理健康与社会心理支持活动的挑战与应对策略

Mental Health and Psychosocial Support, or MHPSS, are significant in our wellbeing. During pre-pandemic, some professionals and practitioners were trained to conduct MHPSS. However, teachers are now recognized as providers because of the wide call for the integration of MHPSS in education. Thus, the researcher aimed to explore teachers' experiences conducting MHPSS for students. The study participants are classroom teachers with one to three years of experience in the Department of Education under a teacher induction program and assigned to a school with mental health practitioners like guidance counselors and school nurses. The data is analyzed using the case study model of Meriam and Tisdell. The study revealed the circumstances where students' support, activities conducted, challenges encountered, coping strategies, and responses of the recipients. The study served as an evaluation of the support and intervention in the school setting. Practitioners may use the result of this study to identify the areas where teachers need help the most. Future researchers may examine teachers' experiences assigned to schools without mental health professionals and practitioners to identify more challenges and coping strategies.

Parents’ Perception Towards Online Education 家长对网络教育的看法

Due to COVID-19 pandemic educational institutions of Bangladesh was forced to shut down and had no option but to operate online education for the continuation of education by maintaining social distancing. As an important stakeholder of children’s education, parents played an influential role for supporting students’ online education during the crisis moment. However, despite numerous benefits of online education for the continuation of learning it is comparatively newer concept for many of the parents in Bangladesh. This study was an attempt to explore parents’ perception of online education through different factors. A total of 350 parents were asked regarding the online education and its usefulness in the context of global crisis by using a survey. A descriptive statistic is used to analyze the responses of the parents and the results indicated that parents were overall satisfied with the introduction and application of online education during the pandemic. However, parents claimed lack of digital devices and ability to use technology, poor or unstable internet connection, physical absence of teacher/instructor, lack of assessment and poor self-regulation are the barriers of online education. Moreover, parents considered that traditional learning is preferable to online learning.

Evaluating the content of the Arabic language Text books for the first and second grades primary school from the point of view of Arabic language teachers in the state of Kuwait 从科威特阿拉伯语教师的角度评价小学一年级和二年级阿拉伯语教材的内容

: The study aimed to evaluate the content of Arabic language textbooks for the first and second grades of the primary stage from the point of view of Arabic language teachers in the State of Kuwait. The researcher prepared a questionnaire consisting of five themes, and included under each theme a set of vocabulary related to the theme. The axes consisted of (the artistic direction of the book, the scientific content of the book, the lesson exercises, the method of presenting the scientific practice material), and the researcher extracted the ratios and arithmetic rates for the responses of the teachers of the Arabic language. The T-test was also used for the difference between the variables of the average evaluation of teachers by academic degree and educational area. The results showed that it is related to the technical direction axis, as the item that states that: the book includes an introduction that explains its importance to the learner obtained the highest average, reaching 77.68% and got the item in the axis related to.” Lesson exercises that state that “the book’s exercises and activities contain different thematic and essay paragraphs “obtained the highest score, reaching 72.62 Its rat e is 72.42% As for the practice achieves the educational adequacy of the lesson” received the highest percentage. It reached 74.3% the study found that there are statistically significant differences in the average scores of teachers according to the academic degree in the field of practice.

The effectiveness of an integrative counseling program in the cognitive organization and treatment of emotional imbalance among university students of both sexes 综合心理咨询项目在大学生认知组织与情绪失衡治疗中的效果

: The study aimed to identify the effectiveness of an integrative counseling program in the cognitive organization and treatment of emotional imbalance among university students of both sexes from the faculties of (Education - Arts and Humanities) at Taibah University. To measure the cognitive organization of students of both sexes, the study sample reached (60) students and they were divided into two groups, experimental and control, and the counseling program was presented to them for a month, and the study reached a set of results. The most prominent results of the study: The results showed: There are statistically significant differences at the level (0.01) between the mean scores of the experimental and control groups after applying the program. There are statistically significant differences at the level (0.01) between the students' mean scores in the pre and post measurements in favor of the post measurement. There are no statistically significant differences at the (0,01) level between the average scores of students (males/females) in the level of cognitive organization and their emotional imbalance in the dimensional measurement after applying the program. The study recommended a number of recommendations: The necessity of paying attention to students, especially in the university stages, by providing psychological and counseling support to improve their emotional states that help them to overcome the problems and obstacles to studying. Choosing the most appropriate integrative counseling techniques in providing counseling support so that students do not experience relapses of academic failure after failing in previous subjects. Reassess students' levels in terms of their ability to face negative events and their use of positive strategies to confront their emotions.

The most prominent results of the study: The results showed: There are statistically significant differences at the level (0.01) between the mean scores of the experimental and control groups after applying the program. There are statistically significant differences at the level (0.01) between the students' mean scores in the pre and post measurements in favor of the post measurement. There are no statistically significant differences at the (0,01) level between the average scores of students (males/females) in the level of cognitive organization and their emotional imbalance in the dimensional measurement after applying the program. The study recommended a number of recommendations: The necessity of paying attention to students, especially in the university stages, by providing psychological and counseling support to improve their emotional states that help them to overcome the problems and obstacles to studying. Choosing the most appropriate integrative counseling techniques in providing counseling support so that students do not experience relapses of academic failure after failing in previous subjects. Investigating the Effects of Flipped Classroom on Delta University Students’ Writing Skill and Engagement 探究翻转课堂对三角洲大学学生写作技巧和参与度的影响

The current study's objectives are to ascertain how students' writing abilities are impacted by the flipped classroom approach as well as to examine their engagement with and attitudes about this method. An experimental design with a pretest and posttest was employed to accomplish these goals. There were 60 participants, and they were split into two groups. The first group presents the flipped classroom as the experimental group, whereas the other was assigned to resemble the typical classroom and named the control group. Six sessions of treatment were given to each group to see if there were any notable differences in the overall caliber of the two groups' IELTS task two essays. A pre-test and a post-test were given to both groups at the start and completion of the treatment, respectively, to evaluate the grades of the writing skill. In order to assess students' engagement with and attitudes toward this method, a self-created questionnaire based on the eighteen-item Learner Empowerment Scale (LES) (Weber, Martin, & Cayanus, 2005) was distributed. The results found that, the majority of candidates in FC group echoed positively. These findings in the FC group may be ascribed to both flipped instruction and the practice of actively involving students in their education. Other methods that were used included collaborative writing, uploading videos to online channels, and in-class teacher-student interactions.
