This article studies the growth of the multinational Bunge in Brazil from 1905 until its fiftieth anniversary in 1955. The key question is how Bunge, in an economy of incipient industrialization, became an economic group. Initial investments in wheat milling—which spread to various other sectors—made this possible. Primary data from the Bunge Memory Center in Sao Paulo served as the main source of company data. We show Bunge's growth and transformation into an economic group as it bought competitors, increased the capacity of its mills, diversified products, and formed part of communities through its Foundation's activities. Bunge innovated by launching new merchandize. Its leaders were pioneers in several business areas, who occupied the country and reinvested the capital in new companies.

At the end of the 18th century and in the first decades of the 19th century the exports of wines from the area of Jerez de la Frontera were directed mainly at the British and colonial market, as well as to the former territory of the new independent thirteen colonies, which became a major consumer. This article intends to show the evolution of the American imports of wines from the Marco de Jerez by re-analysing the statistics published by private individuals and by the US Treasury Department, and also using the records of the Philadelphia Custom House, as well as the communication media of the time. These data are a relevant contribution, as there was no evidence of the importance of this market for the wines of the Marco de Jerez, and even more so as the statistics of exports of such wines are not available for that period of time.

An analysis is presented on the evolution of the gross agricultural product per capita of La Rioja region during the period 1588-1591 and 1771-1775. For this purpose, use has been made of the tithes declared in the veros valores by the churches of Castile for the distribution of the ecclesiastical taxes –subsidio and excusado–. This work is part of a national project that aims to set new proxies of agricultural growth, both in aggregate and per capita terms, calculated through the output side. After analysing the tithe incomes declared by the Church, the most noticeable conclusion is that the agricultural product and per capita agricultural product grew between the late sixteenth century and the third quarter of the eighteenth century. This fact is far from the negative image that European historiography presents of the primary sector of Western Europe in general, and the Mediterranean countries in particular.
