Investigating the Motivating Potential of Software Development Methods: Insights from a Work Design Perspective 调查软件开发方法的激励潜力:从工作设计角度的见解

In this study we view Software Development Methods (SDMs) through the perspective of work design. The objective is to gain understanding into the inherent potential of the two major paradigms of software development, the Plan-driven and Agile methods, to motivate team members of software development projects. The work design perspective is relevant for investigating the motivating impacts of SDMs. The increasing popularity of people focused Agile methods over process focused Plan-driven methods in the 2000s mirror the increasing popularity of non-Taylorist work designs over Taylorist work designs in the 1980s. Work design concepts in parallel disciplines such as manufacturing evolved from the Taylorist focus on specialization and time and motion studies to adopting autonomous self-managed teams and creating employee programs like quality circles. Gleaning concepts from the widely accepted Job Characteristic Model (Hackman and Qldham, 1976) for work design, and the SelfDetermination Theory (Deci and Ryan, 1985), one of the most prominent theories of motivation, provided useful insights. Together they could explain and predict the differential impacts of plandriven and Agile methods of software development on team member motivation.

How Long Tail and Trust Affect Online Shopping Behavior: An Extension to UTAUT2 Framework 长尾和信任对网络购物行为的影响:UTAUT2框架的扩展

This research aims at understanding the effect of long tail and trust on the customer motivation behind online shopping use. In this research, we adopt the Extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology2 (UTAUT2) and expand with two additional constructs “long tail effect” and “trust” to understand whether these two key factors influence the customer motivation to choose online channels for shopping. Research was conducted in Japan for two product categories i.e. airline ticket and book. One is a physical product while the other is a service product. Both “long tail effect” and “trust” were found to have significant relationships with the intention to use, however, there were some differences between the two products, due to their inherent characteristics. Inclusion of both “long tail effect” and “trust” constructs to the existing UTAUT2 research framework is proposed for future research.

An Innovation Diffusion Approach to Examining the Adoption of Social Media by Small Businesses: an Australian Case Study 小企业采用社交媒体的创新扩散方法:一个澳大利亚案例研究

Whilst many studies have examined social media use from a consumer perspective, relatively few have examined its use by small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), a group for whom it is becoming increasingly important. This study aims to provide a deeper understanding of an under-researched area, the experience of SMEs during the process of adopting social media, by identifying the factors that influence SMEs to either adopt social media or not and, if they adopt it, how they use it and evaluate its usefulness. The study involves analysis of in-depth interviews with 42 Australian businesses. Roger’s innovation decision process is used in an innovative manner to classify SMEs into five key stages of adoption of social media and identify the factors that influence the progression of SMEs across the various stages of adoption. The results show that the story of social media use is richer than just whether SMEs adopt it or not. Most participants used Facebook, suggesting it has become the de facto platform of choice to engage with social media. However, opinions of its perceived usefulness for SMEs varied widely across users. There was confusion surrounding the role of Twitter, its value, and concern about the amount of time needed to use it. YouTube was used by some SMEs to showcase their products or services. The study contributes to the literature by identifying key facilitators which appear critical to the decision by SMEs to continue use of social media – namely increased sales; brand development and a feeling of pressure that they ‘have to be there’. It also identifies some inhibitors to sustained use by SMEs, typically a lack of compatibility to industry sector; insufficient followership; and limited return on investment compared to effort required. Finally, the study shows how SMEs differentiate between social media platforms.

Identifying the Motives for User Participation in Information System Projects 识别用户参与信息系统项目的动机

The importance of user participation in information systems development has received a lot of attention from researchers. While prior research efforts have clarified many issues related to user participation, the reasons behind user’s participation in IS projects are still unexplored. The study raises the question of what are the different motives for user participation in IS project. The investigation uses multivariate data analysis techniques to propose a dimensional representation of user participation motives in the context of IS projects. The results identify five user participation motives i.e. nature of association, techno centric activity, user centric activity, user interest, and project importance. The results of the study contribute to both theory and practice by segregating the different dimensions of user participation motives that may serve as cues in designing effective user integration mechanisms.

Factors Influencing Cloud Computing Adoption by Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) In India 影响印度中小企业采用云计算的因素

The purpose of this paper is to examine and assess the determinants of cloud computing adoption by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in an Indian context through an integrated research framework. A questionnaire based survey method was used to collect data from 271 SMEs from the northern region of India. An integrated model founded on Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) and Technology-OrganizationEnvironment (TOE) was proposed to test ten hypotheses through a confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modelling. The analysis reveals that relative advantage, security concerns, top management support, external pressure and service providers’ support are the significant factors which influence intention to adopt cloud computing by SMEs in India. The integrated research framework used and validated in this study is intended to enhance the predictive power of the ensuing model. The empirically validated research model and the instrument used for data collection can be adopted in other similar studies. The findings of this study can be useful for consumers, practitioners, and policy makers who are involved in utilizing, spreading and promoting the adoption of cloud computing among organizations, especially the SMEs.

Electronic Commerce Research Profiles: Comparing E-Commerce and Information Systems Journals 电子商务研究概况:比较电子商务和信息系统期刊

The rapid diffusion of information and mobile technologies has revolutionized the way we do business and how we conduct our daily lives. Electronic commerce (e-commerce or EC) has had an enormous impact on business practices and has become a new area of study for researchers in related fields. Thousands of papers on this subject have been published in the past two decades, most of which have been published in e-commerce (EC) journals. However, many such papers have been published in information systems (IS) journals. Information systems have become the core discipline that drives e-commerce research. The purpose of this research is to report on the profiles of e-commerce papers published in major EC and IS journals, and to determine whether papers that have appeared in EC journals differ from those published in IS journals. We surveyed EC papers published in ten major journals and conducted a bibliometric analysis. Our findings indicate that (1) more EC papers are published in EC journals, but papers published in IS journals are cited more often; (2) collectively, authors in the U.S. are the most prolific, followed by those in China and Taiwan; (3) more theories were used in recent papers than in earlier ones, and the TAM has been the most popular model; (4) B2C and consumer behavior have been the most popular subject areas for EC research; and (5) the core knowledge measured by the co-citation network was provided by the same group of authors in EC and IS journal publications

Assessment, Implication, and Analysis of Online Consumer Reviews: A Literature Review 在线消费者评论的评估、含义和分析:一篇文献综述

The onset of e-marketplace, virtual communities and social networking has appreciated the influential capability of online consumer reviews (OCR) and therefore necessitate conglomeration of the body of knowledge. This article attempts to conceptually cluster academic literature in both management and technical domain. The study follows a framework which broadly clusters management research under two heads: OCR Assessment and OCR Implication (business implication). Parallel technical literature has been reviewed to reconcile methodologies adopted in the analysis of text content on the web, majorly reviews. Text mining through automated tools, algorithmic contribution (dominant majorly in technical stream literature) and manual assessment (derived from the stream of content analysis) has been studied in this review article. Literature survey of both the domains is analyzed to propose possible area for further research. Usage of text analysis methods along with statistical and data mining techniques to analyze review text and utilize the knowledge creation for solving managerial issues can possibly constitute further work.

CEO Decision Making under Crisis: An Agency Theory Perspective 危机下CEO决策:代理理论视角

Organisational resilience has gained increasing attention in recent years. This paper focuses on information systems resilience, which is an aspect of organisational resilience. Given the potentially devastating implications of disruptions to organisations, understanding the dynamics of the successful adaption of IS within organisations indicates an important avenue for future research. In this paper, we adopt Agency Theory to develop a conceptual framework, focused on decision making and planning for IS resilience. Concourse theory and Q-methodology were used to develop a Q-sort questionnaire, which was refined through interviews with researchers and IS professionals. The resulting 37 statements were then sorted by eight CEOs of Small Medium Enterprises (SME). Q-sort methodology identified three types of decision makers from the data, each representing distinct collective perspectives. These types are described and discussed, along with implications of findings as well as suggestions for future research.

Personalized Item Ranking from Implicit User Feedback: A Heterogeneous Information Network Approach 基于隐式用户反馈的个性化物品排序:一种异构信息网络方法

In today’s era of the digital world with information overload, generating personalized recommendations for the e-commerce users is a challenging and interesting problem. Recommendation of top-N items of interest to a user of e-commerce is highly challenging using binary implicit feedback. The training data is usually very sparse and have binary values capturing a user’s action or inaction. Due to the sparseness of data and lack of explicit user preferences, the recommendations generated by model-based and neighborhood-based approaches are not effective. Of late, network-based item recommendation methods, which utilize item related metainformation, are beginning to attract increasing attention for binary implicit feedback data. In this work, we propose a heterogeneous information network based recommendation model for personalized top-N recommendations using binary implicit feedback data. To utilize the potential of meta-information related to items, we utilize the concept of meta-path. To improve the effectiveness of the recommendations, the popularity of items and interest of users are leveraged simultaneously. Personalized weight learning of various meta-paths in the network is performed to determine the intrinsic interests of users from the binary implicit feedback data. To show the effectiveness, the proposed model is experimentally evaluated using the real-world dataset.

Data Completeness in Healthcare: A Literature Survey 医疗保健中的数据完整性:一项文献调查

As the adoption of eHealth has made it easier to access and aggregate healthcare data, there has been growing application for clinical decisions, health services planning, and public health monitoring with daily collected data in clinical care. Reliable data quality is a precursor of the aforementioned tasks. There is a body of research on data quality in healthcare, however, a clear picture of data completeness in this field is missing. This research aims to identify and classify current research themes related to data completeness in healthcare. In addition, the paper presents problems with data completeness in the reviewed literature and identifies methods that have been adopted to address those problems. This study has reviewed 24 papers (January 2011–April 2016) published in information and computing sciences, biomedical engineering, and medicine and health sciences journals. The paper uncovers three main research themes, including design and development, evaluation, and determinants. In conclusion, this paper improves our understanding of the current state of the art of data completeness in healthcare records and indicates future research directions.
