PurposeThis study aims to seek to understand counterproductive knowledge behaviour (CKB) in higher education institutions (HEIs) by integrating knowledge hiding (KHi) and lack of knowledge sharing (LKS).Design/methodology/approachThe current research uses a hybrid conceptual review combining the bibliometric study and conceptual review of 47 articles. The bibliometric analysis aimed to identify research maps, and the conceptual review sought to understand the current development of research fields.FindingsThe bibliometric analysis highlights essential summaries, such as the pioneering authors, seminal papers and conceptual maps. However, knowledge hoarding as a dimension of LKS appears in the niche theme. The conceptual analysis indicates three groups of factors contributing to KHi and LKS. Moreover, the study highlights the causal relation between both KHi as well as LKS and faculty member performance while proposing remedies derived from integrating the social exchange theory (SET) and conservation of resource (COR) theory.Research limitations/implicationsThe present study provides an integrated image of KHi and LKS in the HEI context, as well as its potential remedies by integrating SET and COR. The basis of this study is a literature review; thus, future studies are recommended to empirically explore the integration of KHi and LKS within the HEI context.Practical implicationsThis research provides an overview for HEI policymakers to re-examine the critical role of institutional research as one of the considerations for evaluating and developing policies. Specifically, policymakers can reflect on all policy directions to determine whether there are any symptoms of CKB in the institutions. Moreover, stakeholders can find out the reason behind the non-optimal performance of faculty members regarding CKB and any mitigating factors.Originality/valueUnderstanding CKB is crucial in managing HEI. This research provides a comprehensive image of KHi and LKS within HEI, especially in a collectivist culture.

PurposeMost of the previous studies agree about the significance of user satisfaction in ensuring the endurance of information systems (ISs). Accordingly, it is crucial to investigate the effect of e-Government systems on individual end-user satisfaction as more and more countries adopt and deploy such Government Financial Management Information Systems (GFMIS) in the era of digital transformation. Because of this, the purpose of this study is to investigate the factors that contribute to the success of GFMIS in Jordan and ultimately the satisfaction of its users.Design/methodology/approachThe IS success model developed by DeLone and McLean (2003) serves as the theoretical underpinning for the current research. Adding training quality as a new variable to the proposed model has been found to further increase the satisfaction of GFMIS users. A total of 104 GFMIS users in Jordan provided the data used to verify the model. The partial least squares-structural equation modelling was used to test the hypotheses.FindingsThe empirical findings indicated that GFMIS user satisfaction is significantly affected by information quality, service quality and perceived usefulness; meanwhile, system quality is only partially supported. The research also showed that the level of satisfaction among Jordanian GFMIS users was related to the quality of training they received.Originality/valueThis study fills a crucial literature gap by developing a research model that can help improve GFMIS usage towards attaining greater performance amongst government agencies in Jordan.

PurposeThis paper aims to investigate technostress and information and communication technology (ICT) usage among librarians in Nigerian universities.Design/methodology/approachDescriptive survey research design was used for the study. Questionnaire was used for data collection. The data generated were analyzed using mean, frequency count and percentage.FindingsA moderate extent of psychological, emotional and physical technostress was found among the librarians. The findings further revealed that technostress among the librarians could be reduced through organizational and technical support and the involvement of librarians in the ICT implementation process. The hypotheses tested revealed that there was a significant relationship between technostress and ICT usage among the librarians; female librarians exhibit a higher extent of technostress than male librarians, and there is no difference in the extent of ICT usage between male and female librarians in Nigerian universities.Practical implicationsLibrarians cannot effectively use ICTs if they exhibit technostress.Originality/valueThe work is a creative attempt to know the difference in the extent of technostress and ICT usage among male and female librarians in Nigerian universities.
