Urban configuration modification is an efficient approach to mitigating Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect. This study investigates the significant impact of urban canyon direction on solar radiation and airflow which influences microclimate and thermal comfort. The Envi-met (V3.1 beta) simulation indicates that East-West Canyon received the worst level of air temperature and meant radiant temperature compared to when the canyon was directed perpendiculars to the wind direction (South East – North West). The finding scientifically demonstrates that in Kuala Lumpur context, with the weak influences of urban wind, solar radiation plays the significant impact on the microclimate. Keywords: Solar radiation; airflow; urban canyon, urban simulation.eISSN 2398-4295 © 2018. 由马来西亚玛拉理工大学建筑、规划与测量学院AMER(马来西亚环境行为研究协会)、ABRA(亚洲行为研究协会)和cE-Bs(环境行为研究中心)负责的同行评审。DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.21834/ajbes.v3i13.146

Traditional Thai house architecture is a significant part the Thai culture and heritage. One unique attribute of traditional Thai house construction is the modular, pre-fabricated wood components, with non-permanent connections. This allows the house to be dissembled and reassembled in a new location without damage. This is a case study of Thai-style houses built and owned by six generations of the Usiri family. Their houses have been passed down from the first to subsequent generations.  From only two Thai-style houses 130 years ago, there are now eleven houses as part of an expanding cultural inheritance. Keywords: cultural heritage; traditional house; preservation; living environment.eISSN 2398-4295 © 2018. 由马来西亚玛拉理工大学建筑、规划与测量学院AMER(马来西亚环境行为研究协会)、ABRA(亚洲行为研究协会)和cE-Bs(环境行为研究中心)负责的同行评审。DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.21834/ajbes.v3i13.143

This paper attempts to assess the adaptability quality of Malioboro Street and district related to the physical and functional transformation as part of the urban negotiation and response to the ever changing environment of Indonesian cities. The street was qualitatively measured utilising field observations including physical mapping, behavioural mapping and in-depth interviews. The finding shows urban gentrification may lead to the transformation of physical and building use, which results in the changes of Kampong plot pattern and character of a traditional streetscape, people displacement and the sustenance of the local economy. Keywords: traditional street; adaptability; gentrification; Indonesia.eISSN 2398-4295 © 2018. An Isovist Study for Wayfinding in Historic Quarter
Pub Date : 2018-08-25 DOI: 10.21834/AJBES.V3I13.139

Based on the assumption that human behaviours are mainly affected by physical and animate environments, this empirical research takes the changeful and complex historical district in Tainan to observe wayfinding behaviours. An a priori analysis of the isovist fields is conducted to identify spatial characteristics. Three measures, the relative area, convexity, and circularity, are applied to scrutinize the possible stopping points, change of speed, and route choices. Accordingly, an experiment is carried out to observe spatial behaviours and different influences of social stimuli. Results show that social interactions afford groups and pairs to perform better than individual observers in wayfinding. Keywords: wayfinding; isovist; spatial perception and social stimuli; historic quarter.eISSN 2398-4295 © 2018. 由马来西亚玛拉理工大学建筑、规划与测量学院AMER(马来西亚环境行为研究协会)、ABRA(亚洲行为研究协会)和cE-Bs(环境行为研究中心)负责的同行评审。DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.21834/ajbes.v3i13.139

This paper examines the most effective ways of engaging citizens to appreciate rural villages and agriculture traditions. Pondering on experiences of rural revitalizations in Asian societies, this paper proposes the concept of "participatory agricultural humanities." Participatory agricultural humanities are tools and processes engaging citizens into eco-friendly farming and land related works or events. Based on action research and qualitative research methods, we have been working with peri-urban and rural communities in Taiwan since 2009. Only embracing agricultural humanities as our values, we could re-establish eco-friendly rural developments with biodiversity and cultural diversity as a whole. Keywords: agricultural humanities; rural revitalization; participation; new ruralism.eISSN 2398-4295 © 2018. This study aims to investigate the impact of café atmospherics on Malaysian youth behavioural intention. The findings from the study indicate: (1) The youth preferences of store atmosphere in cafes include five factors, specifically, lighting, facility aesthetic, employee factor, ambient intelligent and music; (2) Cafe atmospheric (lighting, facility aesthetic, employee factor, ambient intelligent and music) factors have significant positive correlation with youth approach behaviours. As a conclusion, this study is important to the foodservice operators to understand the youth intention to revisit a café. The paper concludes with the implications for academic researchers and marketing practitioners. Keywords: Atmospheric; Youth; Behavioural Intention; Malaysia.eISSN 2398-4295 © 2018. The Authors. Medical tourism has become an important sector that contributed to country’s development economically.  In line with this notion, this study proposed to explore how the image of a destination could influence medical tourists in choosing a destination as their future medical and tourism destination choice.  Scholars argued that destination image had a significant relationship with behavioral intentions.  Further, destination image influence not only the decision-making process but also conditions after-decision-making behaviors of tourists.  In this study context, the future destination choice behavior referred to the intention to revisit and to spread the positive word-of-mouth.  Inbound medical tourists from private hospitals in Malaysia will be approached quantitatively by survey questionnaires.  This study will contribute to an understanding of the significant factors influencing medical tourists’ intention for future destination choice. Keywords: destination image; destination choice; revisit intention; word-of-mouth.eISSN 2398-4295 © 2018. 由马来西亚玛拉理工大学建筑、规划与测量学院AMER(马来西亚环境行为研究协会)、ABRA(亚洲行为研究协会)和cE-Bs(环境行为研究中心)负责的同行评审。DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.21834/ajbes.v3i13.149
