A lightning return stroke is always preceded by a downward leader process that takes a dominant role in determining the property of the return stroke. Besides, the channel parameters of a return stroke are spatial and temporal variables. These two points are ignored or scorned in most of existing return stroke modelling. In this research, we have developed a leader-return stroke coupled model based on the time domain electric field integral equation (TD-EFIE), which is actually a growth of Kumar's microscopic model. With a presumed leader channel and boundary condition, a set of equations controlling the evolutions of return stroke parameters, such as the channel current, channel charge deposit, channel radius and conductance, is derived. Furthermore, based on the channel current and conductance, a set of equations for calculating the current-produced electromagnetic fields and light emissions is also derived. A trial of the present model yielded preferable results on both the return stroke current and its optical and electromagnetic radiations in comparison with those observations in literature.

This paper discusses magnetic field of electric power lines and mitigation of passive shielding. Magnetic field is calculated by two-dimension method. It shows elliptically polarized resultant magnetic field for three-phase power lines. Traces of magnetic field vector at positions 1.5m above the ground are presented to show variation of rms and direction of semi-major axis. Induced current in passive shielding loop is deduced and mitigated magnetic field is calculated. Traces of elliptically polarized mitigated magnetic field are compared to that of original magnetic field to show deduction of rms of semi-major axis by passive shielding.

A test system applied to analyze lightning effect on aircraft antenna is proposed. The designed system is made up of the lightning surge generator, arc discharge rod, antenna to be tested, aluminum shield, water resistance voltage divider, portable digital oscilloscope and network analyzers. In the measurement, the tested antenna is mounted on the top of the aluminous experimental box. The lightning current is directly or indirectly injected into the antenna through the arc discharge rod. Moreover, the load resistor of 50Ω is at the terminal, and the water resistance voltage divider that carries the residual lightning current is connected with a digital oscilloscope. The experimental results indicate that the proposed system with good reliability and anti-interference ability is simple, which is also demonstrated to be applicable for performing antenna Lightning effect analysis.

An analysis of frequency selective surfaces (FSSs) with high power handling capability is presented in this paper. Maximum field enhancement factor (MFEF) is applied to quantify the power handling capability of FSSs. The effects of various design parameters on the MFEF and frequency response of FSSs are investigated using split finite-difference time-domain (split-FDTD) method. It is observed that the unit cell size, gap width and distance between two slot arrays are the main factors which affect the peak power handling capability of FSSs. Through the parameters optimization, the MFEF of FSSs decreases about 1.8 times comparing to the FSSs without optimization. The calculated frequency response and MFEF demonstrate three advantages of the FSS after optimization: insensitivity to the angle and polarization of incident waves, a relatively flat pass-band and lower MFEF. This kind of FSSs can be especially useful for airborne radar-dome which might be attacked by high power electromagnetic pulse weapons.

In this paper, a new adaptive noise cancellation method applied on non-continuous communication signal submerged in multi-interference noise is presented. And the noise cancellation capability of traditional method using single adaptive filter is enhanced. This method could be applied to the designing and manufacturing of new adaptive filter used on non-continuous communication signal which is submerged in multi-interference noise such as fixed frequency noises, random noises and so on. Some simulation results show that this method presented in this paper has a strong capability of noise cancellation. So this research provides some technical guidance for improving the anti-noise performance of communication systems.

This paper tries to estimate the absorption coefficient of the lightning coaxial unification fractal model (CUFM) from the particle point of view. Firstly, the lightning channel ionization and dissociation transitions have been studied. Secondly, by the Braginskii formula and the velocity current fractal relationship, the object function of the kappa coefficient and core radius is established. Finally, the numerical simulation of the absorption coefficients is accomplished by optimizing and minimizing the object function. It is found that the kappa outcomes are basically consistent with the past CUFM adopted method.

Field uniformity in a reverberation chamber is experimentally investigated by experiments based on a vector network analyzer. The traditional field uniformity, which is evaluated from the maximum field with samples of stirrer positions, could be extracted from amplitude spectrum of measured transporting function in the experiment. Additionally, density analysis of amplitude spectrum indicates that field uniformity could also be evaluated from field distribution. This distribution analysis method shows advantage in uncertainty, by avoiding effects of accidental samples. And the defect of distribution analysis method is also discussed in the end.

Method of modeling electronic equipment by using current sources was applied to the estimation of far electric field strength and the evaluation of the disturbance source position. In this paper, we investigate the validity of the modeling method where the current source positions are fixed because the model is useful to the numerical calculation. Five kinds of equipment were used for the investigation. The radiated electric field strength around the equipment was measured in full anechoic room (FAR) and the amplitude and phase of the current source were determined by solving least squares problem. The source position of 14 was used for the investigation. The results showed that the deviation from the measured value to the calculation value is almost within 2dB. The obtained equipment models were applied to investigate the influence of biconi-log antenna. The deviation from a half-wave dipole antenna to a biconi-log antenna was investigated in case of a half-wave dipole antenna and the equipment source model. The results showed the deviation of the equipment model was larger than the deviation of the half-wave dipole antenna. This means that the equipment model is effective to evaluate the larger than the deviation of the half-wave dipole antenna.
