In this paper we summarize the initial results from a study of recent geomagnetic sudden storm commencement events, which typically represent the beginning of a geomagnetic storm as it arrives at the Earth. These are of interest because of possible adverse geomagnetic storm effects on power transmission lines in a power grid at all latitudes.

There has been many researches[1] on EMP effects caused by kinds of incident waveforms, and statistical methods were involved on very early time to assist the analysis of effect data and results. Instand of studying the whole process and mechanics directly, this paper built up a black-box model for EMP effects evaluation based on threshold probability and logistic regression. Experiments had been done to get the effect data, with which the incident waveform characteristics were drawn and compared. The result showed that several characteristics had more correlation with effect results than others.

For analyzing wave propagation problems involving fine geometries, a novel hybrid implicit-explicit finite-difference time-domain (HIE-FDTD) scheme is presented. Both the stability condition and numerical dispersion are theoretically analyzed. Numerical simulation indicates that the computational cost of this method to produce results with nearly identical accuracy to the existing HIE-FDTD method has been considerably saved.

Based on requirement of new invented ESD measurement system, detection design of humidity-controlled was proposed. Small gap electrostatic discharge (ESD) is greatly affected by factors of electrode moving speed and humidity and results in discrete characteristic of discharge parameters. Humidity test system design was given based on the STM32 in a sealed box with smart control PID algorithm. The design may promote investigation on the measurement system of multiple factor effect on discharge parameters, obtained a more convenience humidity control system.

The impedance boundary network condition (INBC) is widely used build parametric model of thin materials, fine mesh subdivision in finite difference time domain (FDTD) method can be avoided and the computational efficiency can be greatly improved. This paper proposes the z model method to describe the relations between the input and output in discrete time domain which have the relations between different equations and 1st-order rational fraction rational fraction. This modified calculation method could avoid complex convolutions and obtain exact results when the conductivity is low on the premise of the extractive estimation of z model. Example of a 3-D cavity containing a thin conductive layer on its bottom surface are used to prove the effectiveness of the proposed method.

We have considered some shortcomings of the standard way of the assessment of electronic device immunity to high power EMPs. And we offer a way, which is based on the use of key parameters of pulse electric disturbances induced in circuits of equipment. This way allows assessing the dependence of results of testing electronic devices from the degree of conformity of EMPs in test volumes of simulators to typical EMPs, but also from degree of conformity of EMPs formed by simulators to real EMPs.

Human body potential caused by walking on floors has been modeled by a RC equivalent circuit. Based on the measurement of the charging voltage by human body walking, the RC equivalent model has been deduced and the influence of the parameters on the human bod voltage has also been analyzed. The human body equivalent circuit corresponds with the RC network. As a consequence, an exponential function can be obtained to describe the walking voltage. The model of human body voltage charging by walking combines two main processes: an exponential increase of human body potential due to charging by the soles repeatedly detaching from the floor during walking, and for discharging, the human body potential has an exponential retention. The time constant is determined as a series combination of body resistance and capacitance relative to the ground. During the walking process, the periodic changes of walking paces cause the periodic changes of the body capacitance to ground, then the human walking voltage can be determined by the capacitance. The walking voltage modeled has reached agreement with experimental data.

In this work, a curve-fitting method is introduced to estimate the frequency dependent dielectric constants from experiment data of permittivity, then a transmission model of rebar embedded concrete is given. By using the vector fitting (VF) method, the shielding effectiveness (SE) of rebar embedded concrete in time domain can be obtained, then simulations of SE to UWB and HPM are given. From the simulation results, we can draw the conclusion that the narrower the pulse width of UWB and the higher the carrier frequency of HPM, the better shielding effectiveness.
