Tatiana Ivanovna Krasnoborod’ko, Vladimir Vladimirovich Turchanenko
The article explores the underresearched period of the existence of the Pushkin Manuscript Collection at the Institute of Russian Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The authors focus on the analysis of the situation the Institute had to face while preparing for the 1937 National Pushkin Exhibition honoring the 100th anniversary of the poet’s death, and on the subsequent decree of the USSR Council of People’s Commissars of March 4, 1938, On the Organization of the State Pushkin Museum. In strict accordance with this document, Pushkin House was obliged to transfer all Pushkin-related data to the newly organized museum in Moscow. After their withdrawal, the history of the Pushkin House as it was conceived by its founders would de facto come to an end, and the «generic» name of the Institute of Russian Literature would be lost forever. The authors introduce the academic community to unpublished documents that recreate — via significant and fundamental episodes — the process of saving the main manuscript collection of the Pushkin House through the efforts of its managers and archive curators in the pre-War years. A later decree of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences dated June 2, 1948 assigned to the Pushkin House the archival and museum funds of the State Pushkin Museum, which was under the jurisdiction of the Gorky Institute of World Literature of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Since that time, Pushkin’s manuscripts (with a few exceptions) were concentrated in the Manuscript Department of the Institute of Russian Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The work is devoted to a bright stage in the biography of the famous journalist and publicist A. V. Amfiteatrov — the period of coediting (together with M. Gakkebush (Gorelov) and L. Andreev) from mid-December 1916 of the newly founded newspaper Russkaia Volia. Involving the archival data, the article analyzes the stage of preparing the newspaper for publication, the process of attracting new employees, the development of an ideological platform; the role of Amfiteatrov in these processes is traced; his publications and their reception by contemporaries are considered. Amfiteatrov’s letter to M. M. Gakkebush is published in the appendix to the article, outlining his views on the future edition.

The article offers an interpretation of the fi rst six poems from the cycle Neskuchny Sad (The Neskuchny Garden) — the second part of B. L. Pasternak’s fourth poetry collection Themes and Variations (Temy i Variatsii) as the first and introductory microcycle of this part. The analysis of the semantics and imagery of each poem reveals the connection between the universal biblical prototype and the theme of the birth of art, the central one for the entire poetry collection.

The article discusses the poetic formula of Vladislav Khodasevich’s "Putiom zerna" ("Grain’s Way"). It is argued that the phrase goes back to the New Testament and is associated with Biblical ideas of timeless values. The aim of the article is to show that the formula putiom zerna (grain’s way) is also tied to the Russian poetic revolutionary myth, in which the agrarian imagery was consistently endowed with the social and revolutionary connotations. Khodasevich’s poem and his collection bearing the same title are a convenient starting point for elucidating this poetical myth. The article considers its development in the lyrics by Alexander Pushkin and Nikolay Nekrasov, as well as its transformation in the poetry of the Symbolists. Special emphasis is laid on the lyrics of the Peasant Poets and their responses to the Revolution of 1917. In the light of the article’s topic, the poems of the Peasant Poets feature the myth with very high intensity. We’re thus justifi ed in comparing the images of Khodasevich with those of Yesenin, Klyuev and Oreshin.
