Thinned fiber Bragg gratings for sensing applications 传感应用的薄光纤布拉格光栅

In this work, we report recent developments on the use of thinned and structured fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) as in fiber refractometers. Several etched FBG configurations have been proposed for refractive index measurements and for simultaneous temperature referencing, based on Bragg wavelength shift monitoring. Furthermore, advanced configuration based on structured FBGs has been proposed as low cost and high resolution refractive index sensor. Here, theoretical analysis, fabrication techniques and spectral characterizations of the proposed optoelectronic devices are presented.

Design of dispersion flattened photonic crystal fiber with a large core and a concentric missing ring 大芯同轴缺环色散扁平光子晶体光纤的设计

Novel structure of an index-guiding photonic crystal fiber (PCF) is proposed for flattened dispersion characteristics. As compared with the conventional PCFs, the proposed PCF has a following feature in its structure; the first ring area contains no air holes, and the third ring area also contains no air holes. Then the proposed PCF has a large core and a concentric missing ring. The chromatic dispersion was numerically simulated by the semi-vector finite difference method. The chromatic dispersion becomes almost flat in 1300 /spl sim/ 1650 nm wavelength range when the air hole diameter is about 0.35 times the air hole spacing. Especially the chromatic dispersion is -1 /spl sim/ 0 (ps/nm/km) in the above wavelength range when the air hole spacing is 1.25 /spl mu/m and the air hole diameter is 0.43 /spl mu/m.

Optical properties and photosensitivity of vacuum synthesized Ge-doped sol-gel amorphous SiO/sub 2/ 真空合成掺锗溶胶-凝胶非晶SiO/ sub2 /的光学性质和光敏性

We report optical and electron paramagnetic resonance investigations of gamma ray irradiation effects in sol-gel Ge-doped amorphous SiO/sub 2/. The studied materials have Ge-doping levels up to 10/sup 4/ molar part per million and were densified by two routes differing for the atmosphere: O/sub 2/+N/sub 2/ or vacuum. The obtained results evidence that irradiation affects matrix sites inducing paramagnetic defects. Furthermore, the comparison between the two densification procedures shows that vacuum atmosphere induces higher radiation sensitivity.

Arbitrary chirped fiber Bragg grating fabrication technique 任意啁啾光纤布拉格光栅制造技术

A technique for writing of chirped fiber Bragg gratings with an arbitrary chirp profile (periodic or non periodic) is presented. The technique uses a second exposure with an UV beam to obtain a non-uniformly increase the refraction index of the fiber along the fiber Bragg grating.

Hydrogen diffusion in fabrication processes of long-period fiber gratings: measurement and finite-element-method analysis 长周期光纤光栅制造过程中的氢扩散:测量与有限元分析

Analysis of hydrogen diffusion in glass fiber was performed using the finite element method. The wavelength shifts of long-period fiber gratings by hydrogen in-diffusion and out-diffusion were measured. The measured results were compared with the calculated wavelength shifts by the FEM analysis.

Thin film filters with variable transmittance for spectrometry 可变透射率的薄膜滤光片

Optical interference filters are widely used in optics for various applications. Depending on the optical system specifications, either edge filters or band-pass filters are required. In this last category, special attention is paid to narrow band transmission filters which use is greatly expanding in both telecommunication and spectrometry. In this work, narrow band transmission filters are proposed which performance is varied along the filter surface. These variable filters allow the construction of compact spectrometers that are useful in all applications where both weight and dimensions are required to be very low. Transmission filters operating in a wide wavelength range, visible and shortwave near infrared, are described. Their peak transmittance is linearly moved in one direction along the component surface, within a total length smaller than 10 mm. The filter structure is composed of a thin-film multilayer stack containing both metal and dielectric materials.

Small diameter nano- and micro-wire tapers in single mode fibre 单模纤维中的小直径纳米和微丝变细

Prompted by the recent interest in nano-wires, this paper reports on the successful production of very small diameter (sub-micron), low-loss tapers in single mode fibre. This approach gives a convenient single mode launch into the tapered waveguide or micro-wire and conserves the single mode throughout the structure. Results from couplers fabricated by twisting two such structures together and other related phenomena are reported.

Packaging of filter-integrated hybrid transceiver for subscriber access network 用户接入网滤波器集成混合收发器的封装

We demonstrated a low-cost packaging of bidirectional transceiver using filter-integrated PLC platform for subscriber access networks. An adiabatic WDM filter was optimized and designed by BPM simulation. We fabricated a bidirectional transceiver using modified multi-chip bonding scheme for flip-chip bonding of active components and V-shaped groove for optical interconnection. As a result, the optical performance of fabricated transceiver satisfied the criteria required by Ethernet passive optical network.

Raman gain, two photon absorption, free carrier dispersion, self and cross phase modulation induced by Kerr effect are investigated theoretically in silicon-on-insulator waveguides. The influence of the rib waveguide sizes on the time-space evolution of the pump pulse and Stokes wave is presented. Finally, the application of the nonlinear effects in silicon to realise an all-optical switch is proposed.

Design of directional couplers for wavelength flattened Michelson interferometers 波长平坦迈克尔逊干涉仪定向耦合器的设计

The combination of an analytical approach with a geometrical representation, allows us to derive a rigorous general criterion to design wavelength insensitive interferometers with mirror symmetry, which are needed for wavelength multiplexing/demultiplexing using Bragg grating Mach-Zehnder add/drop filters. Numerical simulations corroborate the analytical results.
