Dutch plantation expansion in the city of Medan left many historical buildings. The plantation building is a historical legacy that must be preserved. G.H Mulder was one of the architects of the time, with his work on the Palm Oil Research Center (PPKS) and the Sumatra Plantation Cooperation Agency (BKS-PPS). The facade is an inseparable element of the architectural product, which is the first element that we capture visually. This research studied and analyzed the elements of colonial architecture that form the facade of The Plantation Development of the Oil Palm Research Center (PPKS) and the building of the Sumatra Plantation Cooperation Agency (BKS-PPS). The research method used in this study is a qualitative method with variables such as walls, columns, doors, windows, vents, roofs, balcony, and ground floor zones. The study founded that the two estate buildings had the characteristics of the transitional colonial architectural period, accompanied by a grouping of similarities in the elements of the two facade. Despite having the same function, architect, and construction period, the two buildings still have differences in the characteristics in facade elements and the visual quality.

The library is one of the building functions needed in the university's development standards. A library serves as a place to find information and collections as well as an educational recreation place. Not only providing facilities for the academic community, but Library also expected to be useful for all people, especially those in the surrounding area. For this reason, the supporting area of Science Techno Park which is an area for the development of economic and educational activities in USU Kwala Bekala campus and its surroundings chooses Library as one of its facilities. In USU Kwala Bekala master plan, the location of Library is in the entrance zone with 16 Ha area. This zone is the gateway of USU Kwala Bekala area so the concept of "building as a gate" is forming the building mass. The site forms two separate parts due to its area which surrounded by the main road and separated by other collector roads. The goals of this project are how to design a campus environment that cares for the surrounding environment, can provide comfort to its users, and can create sustainable buildings. After analyzing and implementing the concept of green architecture, the final design concept are two building masses connected with sky bridge which can accommodate 723 seats, windows and inner court to allow the airflow and natural light enters the rooms, secondary skin and vines as its facade to buffer over sunshine and noises, water and trash recycling treatment to reduce clean water use, and solar panel as additional electricity energy.

Medan is the third-largest city in Indonesia, and so do their heritage. The historic building in Medan City is a valuable asset. These buildings have infinite value and essential to people that ever lived there. Throughout more than five generations, these shophouses are stood still until today and waiting to be eaten by age. Therefore, this area should be conserved. Buildings that lived in Pasar Hindu slowly become extinct because of ignorance from people. Thus, an act of revitalization to this place should be done to conserve the story that ever recorded in this place, so that our next generations can learn and appreciate our history. This project is about how architecture can act as preservation in the historical area throughout the environmental design by the methodological approach. Heritage is a beautiful theme that keeps the scent and the scars of old stories that ever crouched at the shophouse. Compared to other countries that have successfully rejuvenate their historic buildings, their achievements developed much more than building façade but also increased the economic income of the community. These historical buildings had finally become a valuable asset for the owner, precious gems to the city, and pride to the nations.

Based on Medan City Government 2012, slum areas in Medan City are currently estimated to reach 22.5% of the total area of Medan City, which consists of 88,166 housing units or 13.62% of the total houses in Medan City. Moreover, this has an impact on public health. Responding to this problem, the need to design a residence by rebuilding a residential area would be better by not abandoning the customs and culture of the people in the area. The project location is in Medan, Kampung Kelurahan Kesawan. The design method that is carried out is the choice of design location and approach to problem-solving design or design stages. It expects that the results of the design can provide suitable space and occupancy for the community, such as the construction of high-rise villages and community areas.

Education and Training Center is a place where all activities to give, obtain, improve, and develop work competencies, productivity, discipline, attitude, and work ethic at a certain level of skills and expertise by the qualifications of a job or a job. The entrance zone is the main gate that describes the initial image of the USU Kwala Bekala campus. This zone designed with the concept of Science & Technology Park. Because the site location located in the entrance zone, the building design as "Building as A Gate," where the building is designed to create the impression of the entrance on the site. Then, at the main entry point, it was strengthened by the existence of a vista that led to USU's reservoirs and guesthouse. The building is also designed to integrate with the surrounding buildings. The design in STP built with the concept of green architecture. With the green architecture concept, the building will be more environmentally friendly for public health. Hujan deras yang terjadi di bulan Nopember 2016 telah menyebabkan longsor lereng alam dan terputusnya jalan raya yang menghubungkan Tangse dan Geumpang. Labilnya tanah lereng alam yang tidak mempunyai perkuatan dan air hujan infiltrasi kedalam tanah dan menjadi saturated. Kondisi ini menyebabkan kehilangan tegangan tanah efektif pada lereng dan terjadinya longsor. Untuk mengatasi kejadian ini perlu melakukan analisis stabilitas lereng alam dengan perkuatan lereng. Perkuatan lereng dapat dikerjakan secara mekanik dan kimiawi. Analisis lereng dapat digunakan metoda morgenstern-Price, Fellenius. Dengan mengetahui gaya yang menahan dan gaya menggulingkan tanah lereng, maka nilai safety factor lereng dapat diketahui. Stabilitas lereng diharapkan dengan nilai SF > 1,5 maka lereng akan stabil.

Perencanaan sistem vegetasi yang terarah untuk suatu koridor menjadi hal penting untuk dikaji, apalagi kalau koridor tersebut merupakan ruang linear yang penting dalam suatu kota. Koridor di Jalan Jamin Ginting Pancur Batu merupakan ruang linear yang signifikan bagi Kabupaten Deli Serdang karena ruang tersebut menjadi sirkulasi yang penting menuju kawasan wisata Sibolangit dan Berastagi. Keadaan sistem vegetasi pada koridor ini dapat dikatakan minim dan belum tertata dengan baik. Padahal sistem vegetasi tersebut memiliki berbagai fungsi yaitu menurunkan suhu mikro, buffer debu, filter polutan, dan peneduh untuk para pejalan kaki. Pohon peneduh merupakan faktor penting dalam menciptakan ekologis kota. Untuk itu perlu dilakukan pemilihan jenis pohon yang sesuai dengan kondisi Koridor Jalan Jamin Ginting Pancur Batu. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk penataan jenis pohon di koridor Jalan Jamin Ginting Pancur Batu yang diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kualitas lingkungan pada koridor tersebut. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan metode kualitatif deskriptif, dimana data yang diperoleh berdasarkan studi banding proyek sejenis. Proses analisa disimpulkan dengan menghubungkan permasalahan sistem vegetasi dengan studi banding dan kebijakan pemerintah. Hasil penelitian ini akan menjadi masukan bagi pemerintah Kabupaten Deli Serdang sebagai pedoman penataan sistem vegetasi. Dengan diterapkannya pedoman tersebut maka dapat menciptakan Koridor Jalan Jamin Ginting Pancur Batu sebagai salah satu kawasan yang memiliki kualitas lingkungan dan nilai estetika yang baik.

Infrastructure development, both buildings and roads, often result in changes in the surface condition of the landscape and lead to calamity. As happened in the residential area of the watershed Kuala Tripa, Aceh, lately kept flooded. The house is constructed on the ground ignores environmental character and threaten the sustainability of neighborhoods Kuala Tripa in the long term. Kuala Tripa form of physical environment is swamp, major rivers, and estuaries. Settlement of Kuala Tripa has a vernacular house that shows harmony and conformity with the environment. The occupancy adaptations can be identified by the shape and material of construction. Studies using qualitative descriptive methods to find local wisdom in the form and vernacular house building materials to be adapted and applied to the current construction. The results of the study on people's understanding of the architecture and building construction, the use of local building materials and the introduction of the local environment indicates that the potential of the vernacular architecture of Kuala Tripa can be used for residential development of the present and the future. Values in local wisdom and technology skills through shape and material the Kuala Tripa vernacular house building can be used as the basis for the development of the built environment today so adaptive to the environment and respond to disasters.

The house is constructed on the ground ignores environmental character and threaten the sustainability of neighborhoods Kuala Tripa in the long term. Kuala Tripa form of physical environment is swamp, major rivers, and estuaries. Settlement of Kuala Tripa has a vernacular house that shows harmony and conformity with the environment. The occupancy adaptations can be identified by the shape and material of construction. Studies using qualitative descriptive methods to find local wisdom in the form and vernacular house building materials to be adapted and applied to the current construction. The results of the study on people's understanding of the architecture and building construction, the use of local building materials and the introduction of the local environment indicates that the potential of the vernacular architecture of Kuala Tripa can be used for residential development of the present and the future. UNSRI Bukit Besar has become a core area for decades that have a direct impact on the surrounding area, especially to the city's physical, economic, and social communities. The development and improvement of economic and social have triggered physical changes some urban elements that exist in the road corridor. The influence of this effect has some consequences for conflicts of interest in the use of road space. This research was conducted qualitatively by observing changes due to the existence UNSRI urban elements, which has occurred on the road corridors that restrict direct Campus Region. Mapping had been done to look at the physical condition that occurs when the lecture and after lecture and compare the results with theory and regulations. The results of this study as a reference in the control and development of the area as a result of the existence of Campus of UNSRI Bukit Besar.

Desa Wisata Kasongan merupakan salah satu destinasi wisata unggulan di Yogyakarta, dengan produk wisata yang ditawarkan adalah kerajinan gerabah. Industri kerajinan gerabah dan pariwisata di Kasongan mempunyai peran terhadap peningkatan aktivitas perekonomian masyarakat di Kasongan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memaparkan rantai nilai industri kreatif dalam pengembangan pariwisata berkelanjutan di kawasan Kasongan. Dalam pembahasan terdapat landasan rantai nilai industri kreatif yaitu kreasi, produksi, distribusi, dan komersialisasi yang digunakan sebagai dasar pembahasan. Pembahasan rantai nilai industri kreatif di Kasongan juga akan dikaitkan dengan perkembangan kawasan Kasongan sebagai desa penghasil gerabah mulai tahun 1925an hingga saat ini menjadi desa wisata gerabah. Metode yang digunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif karena penelitian ini bermaksud untuk mendapatkan gambaran atau deskripsi mengenai peran industri kreatif dalam pengembangan pariwisata di Kasongan. Dari hasil pembahasan didapatkan bahwa dari aspek kreasi, seniman mempunyai peran penting dalam perkembangan variasi produk gerabah Kasongan. Penggunaan alat-alat modern dan sistem informasi menjadi aspek yang sangat penting dalam jaringan industri kreatif di Desa Wisata Kasongan terkait produksi, distribusi, dan komersialisasi. Saat ini tidak hanya gerabah, kerajinan kayu, batu, bambu, recycled material menjadi produk yang ditawarkan di Kasongan. Kehidupan masyarakat yang tetap menjaga nilai-nilai kelokalan dan kegiatan festival juga menjadi daya tarik tersendiri untuk Desa Wisata Kasongan. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa industri kreatif sangat berpengaruh terhadap kegiatan pariwisata dan perekonomian.
