The prior studies in the citation analyses of Korean natural science and engineering journals found that they have cited SCIE (Science Citation Index Extended) journals significantly. This research investigated the citation impact of the Korean natural science and engineering journals (from 2009 to 2014) toward SCIE journals in terms of JCR (Journal Citation Reports) ranking changes. First, this research analyzed the cited numbers and citation age by subject and journal through the citation analysis of the cited SCIE journals. Second, this research created the co-citation networks of journals and subjects by using co-citation analysis of SCIE journals. Based on the same method, we also assessed the network centrality measures and compared the citation numbers in each journal. Third, this research analyzed the changes in journal ranking in SCIE journal citation index by reflecting the citations of Korean natural science and engineering journals into JCR. Our results indicate that engineering has higher cited numbers, smaller peak-time, and cited half-time values than natural science. These results mean the journal articles in engineering are more quickly consumed and decreased than natural science journals, respectively. Second, this research visualized the co-citation network of SCIE journals and subject areas based on the Korean journals, and it also measured the network centrality in journals and subjects. Third, this research found that the existing journal Impact Factor (IF) (2 years) has been changed significantly if we apply the Korean journal citations into JCR in 2014, and there are significant changes in JCR journal rankings in engineering and natural science. This research shows the impact of Korean journals on SCIE journals, and the results of this study can be used for the future evaluation of journals. The practical implications were presented for Asian countries as well as Korea to develop their own JCR rankings and for their academic libraries to provide better scholarly services.

Keywords for academic papers are terms selected and created by the authors, and are, in general, considered a core element that summarizes and represents the papers’ content. This research analysed the ways in which the author keywords for academic papers are used in multiple disciplines. The Brillouin index was used for an analysis of interdisciplinarity. As a result, 63.7 percent of the keywords were shown to appear in only one area of study. These cannot be considered keywords with interdisciplinarity, but rather with topic specificity. In addition, the interdisciplinarity degree of 80 percent of the keywords were low, between 0 and 0.499. This indicates that the majority of author keywords for academic papers do not show interdisciplinarity. Meanwhile, certain author keywords had a fairly high interdisciplinarity degree. In this case, they can be seen as topics that are researched in multiple disciplines. It was revealed that the interdisciplinarity degree of author keywords in art/physical education are lower than in the humanities or social sciences. This suggests that the interdisciplinarity of author keywords is lower in art/physical education than in the humanities or social sciences.

This paper deals with the multi-perspective bibliometric analysis of Central European scientific journals indexed in the Web of Science database and covered in the Journal Citation Reports – Social Science Citation Index (SSCI). The analysis focuses on the evaluation of the (inter) national orientation of Central European Social Science journals indexed in the period 2012 – 2015. Data were obtained from the Web of Science database on October 20, 2016. The journals are divided in two groups in favour of the scientific discipline identifying the journal in the Web of Science. The first group consists of journals belonged to public health and psychology. The second group includes all social related scientific journals covered in both the SSCI and Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) databases. Journals were chosen by language versions of journals in the Web of Science, language versions of articles, authors’ most important institutional affiliations; and other statistically significant indicators provided by Clarivate Analytics. Assessment of the “openness of Central European journals” to foreign authors was analyzed on the basis of the “INO indicator” (Index of National Orientation). Statistical analyses were conducted on the articles which carry the relevant scientific information. Descriptive statistics was used for the data analysis, using frequencies, percentages and means. The results of this research showed a strong orientation towards Slovakian and Czech authors regardless of the two analyzed groups.  Based on INO, most of the Central European journals quality and impact were comparatively low.  A competitive environment has been created for journals in the social science disciplines, especially for those with competitors in neighboring countries in fields such as psychology, economics, geography and sociology.

Because of its important evaluative function, journal impact factors began to be manipulated by anomalous self-citations. To deal with this scientific misconduct and its undesirable influences, in this paper, an automatic classification model for journals with anomalous self-citation was constructed based on previous research. First, a training journal set and three test journal sets of normal journals and abnormal journals were established and four features were selected from a feature set. Then, a classification model was learnt using the Deep Belief Network (DBN) method, which was successfully able to identify abnormal journals in the data sets. Third, Logistic Regression and Support Vector Machine were employed to learn the classification models, the classification performances for which were then compared with the DBN model. Finally, 1138 journals in twelve subject areas from the journal Citation Report (JCR) in 2014 were chosen as empirical journal samples for the DBN model, from which 6.9 percent of empirical journals were identified as suspect journals with anomalous self-citation.

This study investigates the relationship between ICT facilities and behavioural factors with positive youth development among rural youth in Malaysia, considering gratification of ICT usage in rural library as the mediating effect. The youth in rural areas are inclined to involve in negative affairs due to non- established beneficial activities. Therefore, the government has taken initiatives to equip rural libraries with ICT facilities and services to support social and academic activities amongst youth. A total of 400 respondents comprising rural library users in Peninsular Malaysia aged between 15 to 40 years were surveyed through multi-stage cluster simple random sampling. A survey method was employed and the analysis was conducted using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). The results revealed that gratification of ICT usage among youths in rural library do not significantly mediates the relationship between ICT and specific behavioural factors in positive youth development. The finding indicates that respondents were not entirely depending on ICT facilities provided in the rural libraries in their undertakings. This study highlights several implications and recommendations for policy makers and practitioners towards improving ICT provisions in rural libraries in Malaysia.

3I index: A new method to examine the competitiveness of countries’ international publication productivity 3I

Feng Wu, Gordana Djurovic
This study proposes a new method called the 3I index to examine the competitiveness of countries’ international publication productivity with indicators in three dimensions: International participation, International impact, and International leadership. Using the data (1996–2014) from the Scopus database in the communication field, we rank each country by its competitiveness score. The results reveal a polarized structure of competitiveness among all countries: The United States occupies the leading position with the highest score, Western European countries are in dominant positions with high scores, and marginalized countries (mostly in Asia, Africa, and Latin America) have lower levels of competitiveness. However, emerging countries, particularly Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS), recently have achieved great progress in international participations and impacts, that are expected to change the imbalance in international competitiveness in the near future. The regression analysis suggests that countries’ economic growth status (Gross Domestic Product) and human resources (total population) have significant impacts on the competitiveness of their international publication productivity. Finally, the authors suggest that both BRICS and developed countries should increase their governments' supports to help third-world countries participate international academic cooperation.

This paper aims to investigate the use of an adapted UTAUT model to explore librarians’ acceptance of Radio-frequency Identification based Library Management System (RFID-LMS) and to determine the performance consistency of UTAUT when applied in a context other than its original intent. Causal relationships between the five identified constructs and their significances are determined using multiple regression method. The results are then compared to the performance of UTAUT as reported in the originating article. The relationship between external variables, attitude and selfefficacy, along with UTAUT constructs and RFID-LMS acceptance were found to be significant. The reliability of the modified UTAUT was found to be consistent with the original UTAUT. These findings have implications on the theoretical foundations of UTAUT and supports the notion of a unified view of examining technology adoption and diffusion.

This study aimed to examine the hidden structures and patterns of information flow in Chinese-language Library and Information Science (LIS) journals in Taiwan. Thirteen Chinese LIS journals and 2,914 articles published between 2001 and 2012 were selected as subject and an aggregated 13x13 matrix was generated to perform journal-to-journal citation analysis. The twelve-year period was further divided into three individual periods of four years each to conduct journal-to-journal citation analysis for evolutional comparison. Social network analysis was used to discover the implicit structures and patterns embedded in Chinese-language LIS journals in Taiwan in terms of network structure. The embedded structures and patterns in the Chinese-language LIS journal network were characterized by Bonich’s Eigenvector degree centrality, Stephenson and Zelen’s information centrality and Freeman’s betweenness centrality. These were used to measure journal prominence and role, bottom-up clique to find core journals, and structural equivalence to show alternative publication outlets. The limitations of this study and future research directions are also discussed.

In this contribution we study four examples of hibernators and their citation relations with their awakeners. We, moreover, introduce the notion of authoritative citers, a group of articles that, like the awakener, cite the hibernator and play similar roles as the awakener. Yet, the interplay between the hibernator, the awakener and authoritative citers may differ considerably depending on the case at hand. The results of our study show that authoritative citers play an important role in spreading the knowledge of the hibernator and keeping it in the scientific limelight. This observation provides new insights in the role played by hibernators in scientific evolution.

The objective of this research was to determine the macro-topological structure and the relationship between citation performance and centrality measures of co-authorship social networks of countries in the field of Nuclear Science and Technology from 2008 to 2010. The present study applied the network analysis method in order to visualize co-authorship networks. Hypothesized relationships were tested using the authors of 24,308 documents cited in the Web of Science. Data relevant to citation performance of a country was based on the articles published by the researchers of the country in a three-year period and the citation data of articles were collected two years after their publication. The investigation of co-authorship social network in the field of Nuclear Science and Technology revealed that the countries which are members of a Nuclear Club hold a prominent position in the network and their influence or power in the network is greater than other countries. Having characteristics like short mean path length, low network diameter (less than or equal to 6) and relatively high clustering coefficient, this network is regarded as a Small World Network. The results of testing the research hypotheses indicated that as the value of centrality of countries rise, the citation performance of researchers in that country is also improved. The analysis of variance confirmed the validity of stepwise regression analysis in predicting the citation performance of researchers (F=816.958 and p>0.000) and through three steps, three components including degree centrality, beta centrality and flow betweenness centrality were concluded to have multiple correlation with citation performance of researchers
