Purpose: To examine the mediating role of personal initiative in the relationship between minority status and self-employment among self-employed women in Uganda. Methods: This study employed a cross sectional survey design to collect data from 203 self-employed women to test for the study hypothesis using partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) using Smartpls version 3.2.9 professional. Findings: Findings indicate a positive and significant relationship between minority status and self-employment, and partial mediating role of personal initiative in the relationship between minority status and self-employment at 95% confidence interval. Implication: The findings of this research provide useful insights into the role of minority status in boosting self-employment among women. Personal initiative is not only a booster of self-employment but also enhances the ability of women to start enterprises for their survival. Limitations: The study was cross sectional hence imposing a limitation on changes in perception over time. Therefore, a longitudinal study in future is necessary. Besides, data were collected from self-employed women in Uganda. Above all, this study only considers minority status and personal initiative in explaining self-employment and yet there are other factors that could be explored. Originality/Value: This paper examines the mediating role of personal initiative in the relationship between minority status and self-employment in the context of minority women in a Uganda, against the auspice of middleman minority and personal initiative theory.

Purpose: This study examines the determinants of engaging in digital entrepreneurship (DE), focusing on women and youth male entrepreneurs who are owners of informal MSEs in Egypt. Design/methodology/approach: The study combines the theory of planned behaviour with the diffusion of innovation theory as a conceptual framework. It tests whether an entrepreneur’s characteristics, attitudes, goals, and the innovation attributes of social media, in terms of perceived relative advantage, trialability, and observability, have resulted in DE adoption. Data were collected through telephone interviews with 408 Egyptian women and youth male entrepreneurs who are residents of Greater Cairo and who own informal MSEs that only operate online. Findings: Results of the statistical analysis reveal the significantly negative impact of self-confidence and boredom on DE adoption. In contrast, making money, connectivity, self-actualisation, and minimising direct costs positively affect DE adoption. Practical implications: The findings will be useful to future entrepreneurs and educators. They should also benefit policy-makers that target economic development through MSE creation and the inclusion and empowerment of women and youths. Originality/value: This research contributes to the scant literature by providing a modified theoretical framework for future academic studies.

Purpose: This paper investigates the effect of public domestic borrowing (PDB) on deposit growth (DG), private sector credit (PC), and interest rates (IR) among commercial banks in Uganda. Design/methodology/approach: Three equations are formulated to allow the application of the Generalized Methods Moment (GMM) approach to estimate the equations while controlling for bank internal factors, industry level and macro-economic indicators. Data for commercial banks were drawn from annual reports provided by a Bank of Uganda Depository Corporation survey (2008-2019). Findings: The study finds a significant negative relationship between PDB and IR. Although this result is not consistent with the behavioural expectations, it suggests that an increase in PDB would lower IR and increase savings and deposits. The study further finds evidence to support the fact that high PDB facilitates business undertaking and improves deposit growth in the banking sector. Lastly, the study result reveals that banks create more loans to the private sector and households when PDB reduces. Practical implications: Our results contribute to academia and policy on the effective use of public domestic borrowing to harness deposit growth, private sector credit and interest rates. The results suggest that efficient and effective utilisation of public borrowed funds would ease the cost of doing business, boost labour productivity, output, employment, savings and taxes; all these are associated with improved GDP and deposit growth that causes a reduction in the lending rate charged by banks. Originality/value: Existing literature has not paid enough attention to the effect of public domestic borrowing on the three specific outcomes, deposit growth, private sector credit and interest rates, mostly in the African context.

The population sample of the survey consisted of 300 Saudi women. Findings: Designing sustainable, developed traditional costumes that commensurate with the modern age without affecting its traditional spirit. The paper exposes that the majority of women in Saudi Arabia of different ages and social groups own traditional costumes. Original/value of the paper: The importance of the research is to preserve the traditional character, design sustainable traditional fashion, and create availability for it to be worn and converted into multiple diverse styles; furthermore, contributing to supporting and encouraging the national heritage and preserving it through the traditional fashion industry in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Implications: It is imperative that Ministry of Culture officials encourage and support the Saudi fashion industry. In order to produce and design sustainable fashion, mainly traditional, one must include courses in specialized fashion design programs that concern themselves with style sustainability. Another critical perspective to ponder is research; however, the research must be conducted to relate to the sustainability of developed traditional costumes.

Purpose: This study investigates the demand profile for Diriyah as a heritage-based entertainment destination to assess demand’s characteristics, limitations and preferences. Design/methodology: The study is based on primary data collected through questionnaires circulated electronically. An independent samples test and one way Anova were used to assess demand' s characteristics. Findings: The preliminary findings suggest that the symbolic value of Diriyah is very high. Despite diverse events, children and the elderly are not considered as market segments. Data confirm the gathering pattern of visiting the area. Implications: The study suggests that the destination' s portfolio must be enriched to achieve loyalty of segments. Sustaining the Diriyah brand needs a creative approach, such as playing competitions. In addition, making Diriyah a regional hub for film production could strengthen the creative mix.
