Abstract Child feeding practices are effective in children’s eating. This study examines the relation of maternal temperament, body dissatisfaction, and concern about child’s weight to child feeding practices. The sample comprised 3- to 6-year-old children and mothers. The Child Feeding Questionnaire, Nine Types Temperament Model, and Stunkard Figure Rating Scale were used. Correlation and regression were conducted. Parental perceived responsibilities and controlling increased as concerns about child’s weight increased. Type 1 and 3 temperaments seeking perfection and an admirable image, respectively, displayed more restriction. The findings demonstrate the need for considering temperament during interventions for child feeding practices as well as healthier body image.

Abstract Trauma exposure, PTSD, and racial trauma among Black parents can negatively impact parenting stress and parent-child relationships. This pilot study explores the feasibility of the SafeCare Parent-Child Interaction module among Black mothers with high levels of trauma exposure, and initial intervention outcomes. Six mother-child dyads completed the 6-week SafeCare Parent-Child Interaction module, pre- and post- assessments (i.e., parenting skills, PTSD, and skin conductance), and semi-structured interviews. Findings suggest that SafeCare was feasible among this population, evidenced by a 100% retention rate and qualitative interviews. Most mothers demonstrated improved parenting skills, decreased PTSD symptoms, and reductions in their skin conductance response.

Abstract Prolonged tube feeding has a multitude of negative outcomes. The transition to oral feeding is essential for child and family quality of life. Behaviour-analytic interventions are effective for paediatric feeding disorders, but information is lacking regarding the treatment process and outcomes. This study evaluated a home-based behavioural intervention for a 19-month-old child dependent on tube feeding. An intensive period was followed by caregiver support to advance feeding skills. We applied differential reinforcement and volume fading within a multiple probe design. Results showed clinically significant behavioural and nutritional outcomes, the cessation of tube feeding, and a process valued by the family.

Abstract This study aimed to identify the influence factors for snacking-avoidance behavior among elementary schoolchildren. We recruited 940 Taipei schoolchildren and used five validated questionnaires to assess family affluence, snacking nutrition knowledge, attitude, and motivation to avoid unhealthy snacks. Social support from parents and peers for refusing unhealthy snacks, and adolescents’ willingness to comply were also examined. Motivation to avoid unhealthy snacks or drinks was enhanced when support was given by parents, teachers, and peers. Participants who reported higher levels of social support were more likely to have a positive attitude towards healthy snacking and were more motivated to avoid unhealthy snack options. In conclusion, social support from significant others, attitudes, and nutrition knowledge all help schoolchildren to avoid unhealthy snacks.

Abstract Clinicians who work with youth frequently rely on parents to contribute information via interview or questionnaires. These approaches may obscure precise measurement of behavior change. Training parents to observe specific target behaviors in the natural setting may be a superior strategy, but formal coder training for parents is not well-established. The current study compared parent accuracy in coding child aggression and noncompliance with the Behavior Record Card (BRC) under Standard (written instructions) and Enhanced (active teaching) training conditions. Study results highlight the differential impact of training, limitations of self-directed coder-training, and the need for research on integrating parent observations in treatment.

Abstract The aim of this study was to determine how repeated-exposure of an unfamiliar-vegetable affects food-intake and food-liking in the food-neophobic-tendency-children. A total of 848 children (9–11years-old) participated in this study. The experimental part of the study was carried out with a randomly-selected subsample of 28-students among the students who were considered as having food-neophobic-tendencies. These students consumed celery 8-times with an interval of 2 days. A 5-Point-Likert-Scale was used to assess students’ liking of celery during each trial. There was a significant effect of exposure shown by significant increases in intake and liking among neophobic-tendency-children (p < .001). In summary, repeated taste-exposure is confirmed to be a good strategy to increase vegetable-acceptance, liking in children, regardless of food-neophobia tendency.

Abstract Maintaining participant safety during the assessment of problem behavior is of upmost importance. The performance-based, interview-informed synthesized contingency analysis (IISCA) is a functional analysis that incorporates an open-ended interview with caregivers. We introduced additional questions to the interview to identify participants who are prone to escalation. We found that the percentage of dangerous problem behavior and the probability of a burst were correlated with reports of quick escalation. The results suggest that questions regarding escalation speed may be helpful for predicting any safety concerns. Researchers should consider procedural modifications when safety concerns are anticipated to ensure individuals feel physically secure.

Abstract Children with DBDs experience increased academic and social challenges. The MFG service delivery model, for families of youth with DBDs, was developed. This current study seeks to examine how the presence of ADHD moderates the outcomes for families who go through the MFG intervention. This analysis included families who were enrolled in the MFG intervention. Children were grouped by ADHD severity to examine how symptom severity moderates various behavioral outcomes. Results showed that several outcomes were moderated by ADHD severity. These results indicate that ADHD severity can have an impact on certain treatment outcomes, both positively and negatively.
