During the past decade, the frail syndrome has acquired great importance due to its detrimental social and psychological consequences. In the present study, we investigate the association between frailty status and well-being (happiness and life satisfaction) among older adults, and we test the role of self-perceived health as potential mediator in such relations. We recruited 1205 Chilean older adults that responded to measures about their objective health status (frailty-related indicators), well-being, and self-perceived health. Overall, path analyses showed that frailty status is negatively associated to life satisfaction and happiness, and that self-perceived health works as a mediator for such relations. The social and psychological consequences of the frail syndrome older adults are discussed.

The high prevalence of mental disorders related to anxiety and depressive mood during childhood and adolescence requires a constant screening of the levels of such variables. For that purpose, instruments that are valid, reliable and easy to administrate are needed. The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) represents an instrument with those characteristics. The aim of this study was to adapt the HADS, in a representative sample (between 8 and 16 years old) of Chilean children and adolescents. The study was conducted in four stages: cognitive interviews ( N =10), confirmatory factor analysis ( N =467), test-retest with two weeks ( n =126) and one-month ( n =227) intervals. The results indicated that the adapted HADS, with an extension of 12 items, would have a structure of two factors (anxiety and depressive mood), adequate reliability for the anxiety subscale (  = .75), but not for depression (  = .65), an absence of a significant correlation between factors, and differences according to gender and type of school. It is concluded that the adapted HADS is reliable for its use with Chilean adolescents. This study supports the two-factor structure of anxiety-depression. However, the structure of three factors also reached significant

Despite the evolution of the 3 × 2 achievement goal framework, research on three references of competence and its relationship with motivational variables in primary school students is non-existent. The objectives of this research were two: (a) to examine the structural validity of the Questionnaire of Three-dimensional Perceived Competence in Physical Education, and (b) to analyze the predictive patterns of the dimensions of competence on motivational regulations and self-efficacy in learning. A sample of 502 (242 girls) 4th and 5th primary students from 11 schools in northern Spain participated. The results of the CFA, as well as other models (ESEM, CFA-bifactor and ESEM-bifactor) supported the hypothetical model (three-dimensional). Satisfaction among Indigenous People from Chile: Evaluation of Measurement Invariance

Although the Life Satisfaction Scale (SWLS) has been used to establish comparisons among nations/cultures, the measurement invariance of this scale has not always been demonstrated. The forced acculturative experience of indigenous minorities and its differentiation of gender roles could impact how people respond to this scale. The purpose of this study was to examine the measurement invariance of the SWLS when it is applied to a Chilean indigenous group, considering gender and their most frequent acculturative types (i.e., acculturated and bicultural). Eight hundred adults of Mapuche origin answered a Spanish version of the SWLS and the Mapuche Acculturation Scale. The results supported the SWLS strict invariance between acculturated and bicultural and also between acculturated men and women. Partial strict invariance was found between bicultural men and women; specifically, the residual variance of Item 3 was higher in women than in men. Since Spanish is a gendered language, a linguistic explanation is proposed for the non-invariance of this item. The importance of careful wording of the items, when administered in multilanguage acculturation contexts, is discussed. © 2020 Fundación Universitaria Konrad Lorenz.
