ABSTRACTThe importance of governance in promoting economic growth and its crucial role in the achievement of other Sustainable Development Goals have been largely discussed in the literature. Given the importance of governance and the desire of all nations to ameliorate the level of governance, a growing literature has engaged in understanding its determinants. This study attempts to contribute to this literature by examining, for the first time, the effect of economic complexity on governance using data from 32 African countries over the period from 2002 to 2019. We elaborate four governance indicators based on a principal component analysis. Results provide strong evidence of a positive relationship, suggesting that moving to higher levels of economic complexity leads to better governance performance. We identify human capital, foreign direct investment, and income inequality as some transmission channels through which economic complexity promotes governance. Notes1 For instance, according to a recent report on the Global Terrorism Index, Nigeria’s Boko Haram represents the deadliest terrorist organization with 6,644 deaths. (Asongu and Biekpe Citation2018;Asongu and Nwachukwu citation(2017)。

Following field research conducted in 2020 with three organisations, the results demonstrate that Guatemalan experiences have been generally positive. Although neoliberal and neocolonial influences can structure certain aspects of social exchanges in voluntourism, the affective dimension of lived experiences has an impact on the way of perceiving equality between North–South actors. Analyzing the affective dimension of the experience makes it possible to identify other repercussions of voluntourism that go beyond the politico-economic dimension.MOTS CLÉS: volontourismeGuatemalathéorie de l’affect de l’échange socialdimension affectivedéveloppement DéclarationAucun conflit d’intérêts n’a été rapporté par les auteurs. The win-win discourse of impact investing: legitimising accumulation for a new generation of Brazilian wealth elites

Brazilian ‘impact investing’ seeks a sustainable approach to local development – aligned with the broader financialisation of international development – by collapsing the boundaries between ‘social impact’ and financial return. In doing so, impact investors and their advisors build on earlier philanthropic narratives found within Brazilian family businesses, reinventing these for a new generation of ‘purpose-driven’ millennials claiming to be reshaping capitalism. Ultimately, impact investing helps to legitimise wealth accumulation among a new generation of Brazilian elites (thus helping to maintain wealth inequality), providing a framework for the continuation of business as usual under the guise of business radically redesigned.

Canada's Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP) commits Canada to promote the land rights of women, and to provide at least 50 per cent of bilateral funding to sub-Saharan African countries by 2021. This article seeks to answer the question: What is the Government of Canada (GAC) currently doing to strengthen women's land rights in Africa? We identified GAC-funded projects which include components to support women's rights to land in Angola, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, South Africa, and Tanzania.
