The Role of Social Media Analytics in Providing Product Intelligence: A Qualitative Study 社会媒体分析在提供产品情报中的作用:一项定性研究

The use of social media for business is becoming a new norm for gaining business intelligence. While research work is increasing on social media analytics (SMA) for some aspects of business intelligence, the knowledge of how SMA facilitates product intelligence (PI) is still very limited. To address the gap, the data from qualitative interviews was analyzed using NVivo coding and matrix queries. The results show that products, processes, and people underpin the mechanism for providing SMA-enabled PI. Serving dichotomous objectives, people act as (1) conduits for providing insights about products and processes and (2) subjects for gathering behavioral insights. The PI gathered about the products could help understanding of the process effectiveness and be used for planning, product, and promotional strategy development. Because of the impulsive nature of SM, while the utility of PI from SMA may be limited to gaining short-to-medium-term benefits, it is an important indicator of customer and market sentiments. Theoretically, the study develops a framework of SMA-enabled PI, highlighting the mechanism that yields PI and advancing knowledge on the role of SMA in improving business efficiencies. The results provide managerial insights about the levers and limitations to guide the design of SMA strategies for acquiring PI.

A Design Theory for Certification Presentations 认证演示的设计理论

Prior information system research remains inconsistent of the effects of system certifications. In their current use, certifications are often reduced to graphical seals. This approach fails to incorporate detailed assurance information emanating from the certification process. To address this gap, we adopt a design science approach and deploy a four-phase research design to clarify how to design impactful IS certification presentations. First, we identify sources of users' limited understanding of seals and formulate a design proposal for a certification presentation by drawing upon the elaboration likelihood model. In the second phase, we formulate and validate a set of design meta-requirements and guidelines to improve certification presentation, using cognitive load theory and Toulmin's model of argumentation as kernel theories. In the third phase, new certification presentations that comply with the proposed guidelines are developed and evaluated for their effectiveness. We show that presentations that augment seal-based certification presentations with richer assurance information improve certification effectiveness. This increases users' assurance and trust perceptions when the presentations align with the users' cognitive information processing needs in ways that reduce their cognitive load and enhance argument quality of assurance information.

There is an increasing number of cannabis users joining online cannabis support forums seeking social support for their withdrawal attempts. In this study we propose a research model focused on online cannabis support forums, hypothesizing about the effects of the textual features of the subject lines of discussion threads and thread-initiating messages on the quality and helpfulness of discussion threads. We tested the proposed model by analyzing 27,167 discussion threads downloaded from a large online support forum for cannabis quitters. The effectiveness of thread subject lines and the self-disclosure of emotion-related withdrawal symptoms in thread-initiating messages positively predicted the amount of informational and emotional support received in a thread. The self-disclosure of behavioral physical-related withdrawal symptoms and the diversity of self-disclosure information predicted informational support but not emotional support. Additionally, the amount of informational and emotional support received in a thread were positively associated with the thread initiator's continued discussions in the thread. Lastly, emotional support, but not informational support, predicted the overall helpfulness of a thread. Research and practical implications of the study's findings are discussed.

Four Decades of Chief Information Officer Research: A Literature Review and Research Agenda Based on Main Path Analysis 首席信息官研究四十年:基于主路径分析的文献综述与研究议程

Despite the relevance and maturity of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) research field, no studies exist that exhaustively summarize the current body of knowledge, focusing on the development of the field over its entire timespan. The paper at hand addresses this research gap and presents an exhaustive literature review on the CIO research field using main path analysis. We identify the central papers in CIO research and eight main research streams by quantitatively and qualitatively analyzing 466 papers. We find that established research streams, e.g., 'Evolving role of the CIO' and 'CIO hierarchical position and relationships' as well as recently emerging research streams, e.g., 'CIO as business enabler' and 'CIOs and IT security,' draw growing attention. Based on our findings, we develop promising further avenues for research in the CIO field.

Owing to increasing adoption rates of voice assistants (VAs), integrating voice commerce (VC) as a new consumer channel is among the top objectives of businesses' current voice initiatives. VC offers consumers a new way of shopping by using VAs, which comes with benefits but also entails risks that extant literature only partially examines. Therefore, this research seeks to understand consumers' perceived benefits and risks when using VC by means of a mixed-methods design. In the first study, we conducted 30 semi-structured interviews with VA users to develop a research model of VC risks and benefits. The second study empirically validated the research model using survey data from 176 participants. According to our results, consumers perceive VC as convenient and enjoyable but also perceive risks regarding the VA's reliability, opacity, and controllability. Thus, we shed light on the determinants of channel choice in e-commerce and provide guidelines for designing VC applications.

Unpacking Human and AI Complementarity: Insights from Recent Works 解开人类和人工智能的互补性:来自近期作品的见解

In this editorial, we draw insights from recent empirical studies to answer some key questions related to human and AI complementarity. There is consensus regarding the strengths of machine intelligence in performing structured and codifiable tasks and complementing two human limitations: lack of consistency and inability to unlearn conventional wisdom. To work effectively with AI, humans need to possess not only AI skills but also domain expertise, job skills, and metaknowledge to accurately assess human capabilities and AI capabilities. We identify several future directions in understanding the effects of human expertise and experiences on algorithmic appreciation, the mutual learning and adaptions between humans and AI, and the boundary conditions of effective human and AI complementarity.

Market Valuation of Artificial Intelligence Implementation Announcements 人工智能实施公告的市场估值

With the advent of artificial intelligence (AI), more and more enterprises have begun developing AI to promote their own competitive advantage and increase their business value. In order to reveal the value-added results of AI implementation, this study adopts an event study methodology to capture the abnormal returns resulting from the announcement of AI implementation. Based on the empirical results of this study, in response to the announcement of AI implementation, we find significant positive abnormal returns on the event day. With respect to the grouping analysis, the results show significant differences in average cumulative abnormal returns between announcements with detailed information and those without detailed information. In addition, our findings present significant differences in average cumulative abnormal returns between IT-companies and non-IT companies on the event day. Ultimately, according to the content analysis, only one characteristic, the frequency of negative words, is modestly and negatively correlated with average cumulative abnormal returns.

In order to reveal the value-added results of AI implementation, this study adopts an event study methodology to capture the abnormal returns resulting from the announcement of AI implementation. Based on the empirical results of this study, in response to the announcement of AI implementation, we find significant positive abnormal returns on the event day. With respect to the grouping analysis, the results show significant differences in average cumulative abnormal returns between announcements with detailed information and those without detailed information. In addition, our findings present significant differences in average cumulative abnormal returns between IT-companies and non-IT companies on the event day. IT Professionals' Turnaway Intention and the Role of Technostress IT专业人员的离职倾向与技术压力的作用

The supply of global information technology (IT) workers does not meet the demand of the industry. Therefore, researchers try to distill ways to increase and retain the IT talent pipeline. Ensuring that IT professionals remain in their IT careers is an essential element of such research. The influence of technostress on job turnover is evident. Yet, we know little about the impact of technostress on career turnaway and its interaction effects on the antecedents of turnaway intention. While job turnover may negatively impact a specific organization, career turnaway has negative implications for the industry. Losing IT professionals from the field means that additional efforts toward motivating, recruiting, educating, and preparing replacement talent are needed. By examining the dynamics of technostress on IT professionals' career turnaway intention (N=512), we reveal two critical findings. First, technostress reduces the IT professional's commitment to their IT career and increases exhaustion from their IT career experience. Second, technostress moderates IT professionals' commitment to their profession and career turnaway intentions. To remedy these concerns, we provide managerial advice and provide suggestions for future research.

Email is the communication application most widely used in organizations. Yet, email is associated with a number of negative aspects, most prominently 'email overload' - a phenomenon that is theoretically interesting but vexing in practice because it has proved intractable to manage. We problematize the current understanding of email overload as being due to lack of understanding of its technology fit-related antecedents and job-related outcomes, and then investigate how email overload is influenced by a lack of fit between the communication applications that the organization provides to individuals and those that (1) they want, and that (2) are suitable for their tasks. We hypothesize that such lack of fit leads to email by default, defined as the perception of email being used improperly, when other communication applications would be better suited. Email by default is then hypothesized to lead to email overload. We further investigate job-related outcomes of email overload. The hypothesized relationships are supported by our findings, based on data from a two-stage, multi-method empirical study in a large manufacturing organization. The paper theoretically broadens the scholarly discourse on email overload to include novel antecedents and outcomes in the ongoing quest to establish a more complete understanding of this phenomenon.

Affordances and Information Systems Research: Taking Stock and Moving Forward 功能支持和信息系统研究:评估和前进

The term affordance appears with increasing frequency in the Information Systems (IS) literature. Nevertheless, those who study information technologies/information systems (IT/IS) via the affordance lens often have different views about its origin, meaning, and appropriate application in IS research. In turn, not spelling out the related assumptions and boundaries inherent in these diverse views may have hindered a wider and more cumulative adoption of the affordance lens in IS research. This paper offers a potential solution by (1) synthesizing the ecological psychology literature to suggest five key modules of the affordance concept relevant to IS research and (2) taking stock of IS research that has employed the affordance concept and classifying it according to its focus on three key affordance elements: IT artifact, user, and context. Finally, this paper presents a set of challenges, opportunities, and recommendations regarding how IS researchers can advance affordance-based research in the field.
