Abstract: Competency in communication and collaboration is essential in forming interprofessional partnerships for nursing practice. However, many students in nursing programs struggle with professional oral and written communication, leading to poor communication and incivility. Generational differences and expectations exacerbate communication breakdown and incivility among students and faculty. Implementing communication guidelines using a standardized communication tool in a traditional bachelor of science in nursing program helped facilitate professional and civil communication between students and faculty. Using the standardized tool improved student civility, professionalism, and accountability.

Abstract: Career planning is an important but often neglected component of a nursing program curriculum. To increase retention and encourage professional advancement at the school of nursing of a large, public university in the Northeast, a virtual simulated career development day was established to provide students with the tools needed to navigate the job acquisition process and secure appropriate employment. Course outcomes and student feedback indicated that a successful transition to practice and advancement to higher levels of professional nursing can be promoted through the development of superior interviewing skills, a strong resume, and insight regarding one's professional goals and values.

Abstract: With little literature exploring the relationship between leadership styles within teams/departments and types of organizational culture in nursing education, we conducted an exploratory study to investigate leadership styles and culture types. An online survey using the Organizational Description Questionnaire was posted on two national nursing websites. Nearly 35 percent of participants in this pilot study ( n = 43) identified their organization to be coasting, followed by high contrast (23%) and transformational (21%). No associations were found between culture and type of institution or campus presence. Findings suggest coaching, development, and a cultural change plan can be impactful.

Abstract: Well-qualified nurse educators are vital for preparing nursing graduates to provide safe, quality patient care. Standardized nurse educator competencies advance the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of competent nurse educators, especially in master of science in nursing (MSN) programs. The World Health Organization and the National League for Nursing each established nurse educator competence statements. The study conducted a crosswalk analysis to identify alignment and variance between the two sets of competence statements. All statements except one World Health Organization subcompetency aligned, highlighting the need for competency-based education. We discuss recommendations for integrating these findings into nursing education-focused MSN programs.

Abstract: The transition from nursing student to clinical professional is a pivotal moment in a nurse's career, often marked by significant challenges. To address these challenges and provide support during the transition, an innovative mentorship program was developed to connect graduating baccalaureate nursing students with experienced alumni. The purpose was to foster alumni connections while strengthening students' coping skills, self-confidence, and resilience during the transition to practice.

Aim: The aim of the study was to synthesize how nurse educators use simulation-based evaluation data for curriculum decision-making.

Background: The call to reform nursing education remains, with calls to examine curriculum effectiveness because of declining graduate competencies. Nurse educators need reliable evidence to guide curriculum decisions and improve graduate competency outcomes.

Method: Using Whittemore and Knafl's integrative review methods, we searched six databases with expanded key words, "nursing," "simulation," "data," and "curriculum," excluding non-peer-reviewed articles published after 2006.

Results: Six studies met inclusion criteria. Simulation data were used to identify learner deficits, evaluate curriculum efficacy, identify program outcome achievement, inform simulation frequency, and influence clinical experiences.

Conclusion: Using simulation data for curriculum decision-making allows nurse educators to make real-time adjustments, address learner gaps, test curriculum effectiveness, and enhance practice readiness. With broader adoption, nurse educators can shift focus beyond learner evaluation, driving system-level change and refining curriculum practices for greater educational impact.

Abstract: Nurse educators face challenges in teaching students about social determinants of health (SDOH) due to limited opportunities for community placements. A college of nursing in the southeastern United States developed a project incorporating virtual reality (VR) and 360-degree videos into prelicensure population health nursing courses. The project enhanced understanding of SDOH by immersing students in the lived experiences of patients facing negative health impacts. After participating in the VR experience, students reported increased empathy, a deeper understanding of barriers to health, and greater engagement with content.

Abstract: This study evaluates the impact of problem-based learning (PBL) in strengthening interprofessional education to address health disparities. Forty-seven nursing and public health students participated in a course using PBL to tackle complex issues such as race, poverty, and sexual orientation. Pre- and post-surveys assessed communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills. Results showed significant improvements across all domains, with the greatest gains in communication proficiency and critical thinking. The findings suggest that PBL is an effective pedagogical tool for preparing health professionals to engage in difficult conversations and collaborate to address systemic health disparities.

Abstract: Practicing nurses encounter numerous challenges in maintaining healthy eating habits during their clinical shifts, which often span multiple eating occasions. Senior-level nursing students engaged in an innovative hands-on culinary experience designed to develop personal nutrition skills. During the culinary session, students shared examples of barriers to eating healthfully during clinical time, and faculty guided discussion regarding healthy choices and meal planning. Students worked together to prepare and enjoy a healthy meal while identifying strategies to support their personal health and nutrition when practicing as new nurses.

Abstract: Food insecurity is more prevalent among college students than in the general US population. This study examined the prevalence of food insecurity specifically among nursing students during the post-pandemic period. Survey data were collected from 199 students across four southeastern baccalaureate nursing programs. Between 44 and 60 percent of respondents reported being unable to afford balanced meals in the past year. To address this issue, strategies such as establishing campus food pantries, providing nutrition education, and raising awareness of community resources should be prioritized.
