Corporate entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial orientation are widely studied concepts in the field of entrepreneurship related to the ability of established firms to innovate and adapt to change. The evolution of the literature has taken place in different areas of knowledge and disciplines, giving rise to the undifferentiated use of these terms, thus limiting the possibilities of generalizing the results. For this reason, several authors have established the need to further conceptualize these terms and the existing relationships between different constructs in order to consolidate and advance knowledge. The literature review shows that both concepts are closely interrelated and that, while corporate entrepreneurship has been used as a construct focused on the activities carried out by the firm resulting in innovation, business creation or renewal, entrepreneurial orientation has been approached as a behavior that characterizes the firm that has entrepreneurial initiative based on the exhibition of a predisposition towards innovation, risk taking, and proactivity. The aim of this study is to analyze the evolution of the thematic areas of interest of both constructs through the use of the most frequent keywords to characterize and differentiate both concepts. Through the comparative bibliometric analysis of the keywords, we aim to answer the question are the two concepts really the same, or if they are differentiated parts of the same phenomenon, and to contribute to the reduction of the dispersion generated in the attention of researchers in order to advance in the strengthening of their conceptual structure.

The purpose of this paper is to deepen the knowledge of the factors that explain the existence and non-existence of Entrepreneurial Intention (EI) among people with disabilities. To achieve this objective, we integrate resilience and perceived collective efficacy into the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) framework. We collected data from a sample of 235 people with disabilities and examined the variables included in the TPB, as well as the role of resilience and perceived collective efficacy as predictors of EI. To investigate whether these variables help to explain EI among people with disabilities, we used fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis with theory testing. Our findings highlight the complexity of the entrepreneurial journey for people with disabilities. We show that the components of the TPB are essential in shaping the EI of this population. Furthermore, the inclusion of resilience and perceived collective efficacy complements the need for the other two TPB components (perceived behavioral control and subjective norm). Few studies have examined ways to enhance EI in people with disabilities, and even fewer have examined the variables that influence the presence or absence of EI in people with disabilities. Our study contributes to this gap in the literature, and has important implications for policymakers and practitioners working to promote entrepreneurship among people with disabilities.

The technological revolution we have been witnessing over the last 30 years is bringing about important changes in business management, specifically in the conception, development, and management of its financial aspects. How to face these challenges is a particularly critical question for individual entrepreneurs who have to assume a much greater responsibility for decisions than in other corporate environments. In this sense, it is very important to understand the financial capabilities and skills and their limitations of this type of entrepreneurship, which is so important for the renewal and extension of the business community in any developed economy. Based on an extensive official survey of this type of entrepreneurship, this research proposes a logistic regression modeling, in order to find out the level of financial knowledge of this business group. One of the findings of this research is that individual entrepreneurs have a higher level of financial knowledge than salaried workers, with a higher qualification in this respect in the case of individual entrepreneurs with employees. This study analyses the link between individual entrepreneurs or self-employed workers – with or without employees – and financial literacy. In addition, we investigated the relationship between this group with their socio-demographic characteristics, financial product holdings, financial planning, and financial fragility. Different binary logistic regression models with maximum likelihood were estimated using a sample of individual entrepreneurs and self-employed workers from the Survey of Financial Competences database conducted in Spain to achieve this. The results of the study show that individuals who choose to be individual entrepreneurs or self-employed, and in particular those with hired workers, had a higher level of financial literacy than salaried workers. Moreover, it was confirmed that financial literacy complements the explanatory power of the other variables analyzed with respect to sole proprietors without employees, although not to a significant degree. The limitations of this work are due to the use of data from the Financial Skills Survey, so some dichotomous variables offer very generic information. In addition, the database is cross-sectional and we cannot analyze variations between different periods. No research before had applied the relationships between the behavior of individual entrepreneurs, with and without employees, and financial competencies using logistic functions and on the basis of a rigorous and comprehensive formal questionnaire. The conclusions provide a valuable perspective for developing training programs for this type of human capital aimed at raising the financial skills of individual entrepreneurs to improve personal and business management.

This paper examines whether and how heterogeneity within necessity- and opportunity-based entrepreneur groups affects business performance using a survey of 21,532 new firms in Japan. The major findings are as follows. First, business performance is not homogeneous among either necessity- or opportunity-based entrepreneurs. Second, the existing theory that necessity-based entrepreneurs tend to show poorer performance than opportunity-based entrepreneurs does not necessarily hold when considering heterogeneity within the groups. Specifically, among some types of necessity- and opportunity-based entrepreneurs, necessity-based entrepreneurs can even exhibit better performance than opportunity-based entrepreneurs.

This research contributes to the state of knowledge on gender aspects of entrepreneurship and SME-promoting policies from the perspective of the United Kingdom. In this paper, we draw upon the largest public policy intervention aimed explicitly at fostering new business start-ups, the Start-Up Loan (SUL) scheme. Since its inception in 2012 until the present day, question whether female start-up entrepreneurs were over-represented in terms of scheme participation, which would be the case if the barriers they face when seeking to start a new business are greater than their male peers. First, the study exploits available secondary data from the Eurostat and Global Entrepreneurship Monitor to determine the participation of females in entrepreneurship during the last decades. Second, we exploit the administrative data of the participants of the SUL scheme between 2012 and 2022 (N = 98,026). Methodologically, the study relies on summary statistical tools and estimation of the Cox proportional hazard models, predicting the loan default rates of the supported individuals across genders. With an average female representation of 40% over the last decade on the SUL scheme, which is significantly higher than in the UK business population, a very positive and unintended consequence of the scheme is that tens of thousands of female entrepreneurs were given the support that, in its absence, may have prevented or discouraged them from starting their new business. Furthermore, females participating in the SUL scheme have lower hazard rates than males.

As the concept of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) coincides with the direction of enterprises’ sustainable development goals, this study measures sustainable entrepreneurship at the enterprise level by extending ESG measures. A time-varying measure was constructed using state-space models, and the entropy weight method was applied to obtain the final index. We selected annual data of 318 A-share listed companies for 2011–2020 and established a two-way fixed-effects model of time and individuals by applying the constructed sustainable entrepreneurship index. This study examines the impact of sustainable entrepreneurship on corporate value and discusses the moderating effects of financing constraints and government subsidies. The empirical results reveal the following aspects. First, sustainable entrepreneurship has a significant positive effect on corporate value. Second, the greater the degree of financing constraints faced by enterprises, the weaker the role of sustainable entrepreneurship in promoting corporate value. Third, the greater the government subsidies received by enterprises, the stronger the promotion.

Innovation in the wine tourism network is the path to success, considering the rapid changes in customer behaviour. The purpose of this study—based on an adaptation of the resource dependency theory (RDT) and the resource base view (RBV) theory—is to explore the relationship between the entrepreneurs′ perceptions of innovation, wine tourism experience, and the development of sustainable wine tourism for Romanian wineries. Data were collected online using a questionnaire completed by 102 entrepreneurs who manage wineries that practise wine tourism. The entrepreneurs′ answers were processed with SmartPLS4 software, and the validation tool was structural equations modelling (PLS-SEM). The findings show that Romanian entrepreneurs know the importance of financing and products and services innovation (WFPSI) for wineries, and rely consistently on wine tourism experience (WTE). The mediating effect of WTE between WFPSI and sustainable wine tourism development (SWT) is also provided. Moreover, WFPSI has a significant effect on the other internal and external innovation activities analysed in the research model: wineries online promotion and sales innovation (WOPSI) and wineries’ collaborations and alliances innovation (WCAI). In the final outcome of our research model, the balance of winery entrepreneurs’ knowledge favours external innovation activities, with WCAI and WTE having a greater impact on SWT than WOPSI. The new conceptual research model and the findings provide theoretical and practical implications for all the stakeholders interested in sustainable wine tourism development.

This study investigates Laissez-faire leadership (LFL), an area often viewed negatively yet underexplored. Aiming to decipher LFL’s implications, particularly its ties with employee autonomy and well-being, the study distributed 4000 questionnaires via LinkedIn to various French organizations. Out of these, 226 were accepted and analyzed. The Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire measured LFL, while the Job Diagnostic Survey examined autonomy. Findings indicate LFL has a detrimental effect on workplace well-being, with autonomy serving as a key mediator. Additionally, LFL’s impact may differ based on individual expectations. These results emphasize the cautious adoption of LFL and spotlight autonomy’s importance. This research notably broadens our understanding of LFL’s role in the workplace.

The aim of the study is to identify the variables relating to the management of labour relations and conflicts that occur within hotel companies and how these enable the generation of employee engagement. A quantitative approach is presented in which a multiple linear regression is used to identify those variables with the greatest influence in making the people who make up the organisation feel committed to it. The tool used to collect information was a questionnaire made up of 56 items measured on a Likert scale and completed by workers with at least 5 years' experience in the sector. Among the variables that generate greater engagement, the following stand out: feeling informed, the possibility of reconciling work and family life, fair pay, pride in belonging, a clear vision of the job or the option of complaining in the event of unfair treatment. There is scope for companies to increase this engagement by including social benefits, the possibility of teleworking or emotional pay.

There is scope for companies to increase this engagement by including social benefits, the possibility of teleworking or emotional pay.</p>","PeriodicalId":48058,"journal":{"name":"International Entrepreneurship and Management Journal","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":5.6,"publicationDate":"2023-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138520643","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study focuses on how start-ups use machine learning technology to create and appropriate value. A firm’s use of machine learning can activate data network effects. These data network effects can then create perceived value for users. This study examines the interaction between the activation of data network effects by start-ups and the value that they are able to create and appropriate based on their business model. A neo-configurational approach built on fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) explores how the design of a firm’s business model interacts with various aspects to explain value creation and appropriation using machine learning. The study uses a sample of 122 European start-ups created between 2019 and 2022. It explores the system of interactions between business model value drivers and value creation factors under the theory of data network effects. The findings show that start-ups primarily activate the efficiency and novelty elements of value creation and value capture.
