This study offers a comprehensive literature review on the gaps related to online learning efficiency and a structured conceptual model. The findings would be favourable for the learners, lecturers, future researchers, universities and other educational institutes. This study has presented the results of a systematic literature review on the factors affecting the efficiency of online learning and how they impact on satisfaction and commitment of learners. To conduct the literature review, approximately 40 empirical studies were reviewed and analysed. The results reveal that several factors, including academic issues, accessibility issues, technological skills, mental well-being and lecturer commitment, impact depreciating the online learning efficiency, which has made a significant impact on learner satisfaction and learner commitment during the COVID-19 pandemic. If the pandemic would continue, the institutes can use the deliverables to figure out the difficulties encountered by the learners during the pandemic, how to prevent those issues and to search for a solution: to re-open the universities following necessary health guidelines or to resume delivering education online. The literature evaluates the impact of online learning efficiency on learners’ satisfaction and commitment, and there are no adequate empirical studies available for testing the online learning efficiency with respect to learners’ satisfaction and commitment. Hence, in identifying several gaps related to online learning efficiency, this study offers a new structured conceptual model.

Writing is known as the most difficult skill for second language and foreign language learners. One of the strategies much used by teachers, instructors, and practitioners to help the students to overcome the issue is self-reflection writing. This study aimed to find out how the implementation of self-reflection writing could improve students' ability in writing recount text. This research was conducted in a Madrasah Aliyah Swasta Medan. The researchers used classroom action research as the research design, which was conducted in two cycles. In each cycle, the researchers collected both qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative data were collected through observation sheets, interviews, diary notes and documentation, while quantitative data were obtained from pre-test, post-test I and post-test II. The results of qualitative data showed that: 1) the students felt enthusiastic at the implementation of self-reflection writing; 2) the students became more active in learning to write recount text by using self-reflection writing strategy. Moreover, the results of quantitative data showed that the students reached the minimum score criteria (KKM) in the first cycle with the percentage of 41.1%. In the second cycle, the students gained higher scores with the percentage of 88.2%. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the implementation of self-reflection writing can improve the students’ ability to write recount text.

This study aims to identify the errors and to describe the types of errors made by EFL Pre-service Teachers when translating recount texts from Indonesian to English. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method. The subject of this research is the 4th-semester student of the English Education Department, State Islamic University of North Sumatera. This research uses random sampling. The researcher only took data from 2 representatives from each class. The data were taken from translation tests and documentation. Based on the data, it is found that there are 38 and eleven types of errors made by the EFL Pre-service Teacher. The findings show that EFL Pre-service teachers make errors in terms of article error, plural noun error, punctuation error, phrase error, verb error, preposition error, misordering error, pronoun error, noun error, infinitive error, and spelling error. There is some process of the error occurred, namely: hesitates in using an appropriate article, doesn't pay much attention to grammar in the target language, misplaced punctuation, doesn't understand the rules of using the correct preposition and don't understand the use of pronouns in sentences. The causes of errors on EFL Pre-service Teachers in translating Recount Text are lack of motivation and Interlingual transfer/intralingual transfer.

The utilization of animation video as a strategy based on CALL (Computer-Assisted Language Learning) approach has been implemented by English language teachers, practitioners, and facilitators due to its enjoyable and meaningful impacts on students’ learning. This present study aimed to describe the students’ perceptions on utilizing animation video in English writing class focusing on narrative text. Qualitative research approach, particularly a case study design was employed to conduct this study. To collect the data, the researcher used questionnaire, interview, and documentation which were analyzed with descriptive statistics and Miles and Huberman theory. Twenty-eight students were recruited as the participants in this study, however only three were invited to the interview session which was conducted to deeper explore their perceptions of the animation video utilization. The results revealed that there were three main findings which tended to be positive perceptions, namely: 1) enthusiasm in the use of animation video as a learning media, 2) better comprehension of the story which helped them to portray the concept easily, to acquire more vocabulary, to organize the generic structure, and to convey the moral lesson, and 3) students felt motivated to write narrative text properly. From those results, this study concludes that the utilization of animation video in narrative text writing class has given great contributions for the students’ learning. This study suggests that the use of animation video be practiced in English language teaching learning process, particularly in the teaching and learning of narrative text writing.

This research was aimed to find out the students’ and teacher’s perceptions of English online learning. This research was conducted by using Descriptive Qualitative Research. The technique of analyzing data researcher used three steps, there are: 1) data reduction, 2) data display, 3) conclusion.. The findings from the data analysis shows that students gave positive perception of English online learning where students said that the process of learning English is easier with online learning and English online learning can foster students’ independent learning attitudes but students found problem in implementing online English learning because limited of internet quota during this pandemic, not everyone has enough money to buy an internet quota. Teacher also gave a positive perception of English online learning in case of the process of learning. English online learning is not effective because teacher teach virtually in one place and students follow learning from other computers in different places, it will make it difficult for students to accept and achieve learning objectives. Therefore, in their opinion,s learning will be more effective if learning is carried out face-to-face, the delivery of learning materials is carried out directly by the teacher to students and will also be more easily accessible by students so that they can achieve the desired learning objectives.
