Understanding Obesity in African American Women Using Leininger's Theory.

In the United States, African American (AA) women suffer from higher rates of obesity as compared with Caucasians or Asians. Unfortunately, most weight management interventions have been unsuccessful in maintaining weight loss. Prior research has revealed that AA women face unique barriers in managing obesity; therefore, more research is warranted to address this problem. Leininger's theory is used to understand obesity through a cultural lens. The constructs of the sunrise model are defined as a means to intervene when providing nursing care through cultural preservation, accommodation, and repatterning. We conclude that culture care theory offers a theoretical framework to assist nurses in providing culturally sensitive care to Black women with obesity. Nurses caring for this population can utilize this theory to tailor interventions specific to the cultural needs of women to improve outcomes in the management of obesity. In this article, we use AA and Black interchangeably to represent Americans whose ancestors originate from Africa.

This study examined the efficiency of the health belief model in understanding preventive behaviors of pregnant women in Iran. A cross-sectional descriptive-analytical methodology study was conducted of pregnant women who were referred to a healthcare center in 2021. The data were the responses to a questionnaire designed for this study. The data were analyzed with SPSS 24 software, Amos 22 software, correlation tests, regression analysis, and independent t tests. In terms of the health belief model, pregnant women with high perceived susceptibility showed the highest vaccination rate, while those with high perceived barriers had the lowest. The model predicted 20% variance in the preventive behavior from COVID-19, with perceived susceptibility and cues to action being the strongest and weakest predictors of behavior, respectively. The conclusion of the study was that the health belief model was an appropriate model to guide the care of pregnant women.

Having courage is a humanuniverse living experience that is common to all humans. Individuals experience courage in one way or another at different times. Hence, it is imperative to understand having courage from various standpoints. To explore the different perspectives on the phenomenon of courage, the scholar dwelled with printed material across the disciplines of theology, psychology, philosophy, sociology, social work, education, business, and nursing. Two themes were crafted from the literature as (a) courage is steadfastness in the midst of fear and (b) unfaltering commitment to the cherished.

Feeling ashamed is a universal humanuniverse living experience. According to humanbecoming, all persons choose to feel ashamed or not from moment to moment. Therefore, it is significant to discover the newknowings of the phenomenon of feeling ashamed. The investigation method was Parsesciencing, a unique mode of inquiry within the humanbecoming paradigm. The investigation included 10 historians between the ages of 18 and 65 years, who were willing to share their experiences of feeling ashamed. The inquiry stance was: What is the discerning extant moment of the universal humanuniverse living experience of feeling ashamed? The major discovery of this Parsesciencing inquiry was the discerning extant moment: Feeling ashamed is profound agonizing regretfulness with persistent unwelcome recollections arising with desired concealment with distancing affiliations.

The article that follows reflects on the importance, the precision, and the guidance provided through theoretical foundations, science, and art of nursing as directed by these paradigmatic theoretical frameworks and their corresponding practice methodologies. The mainstay element common across all frameworks is the precise essentials contained within the nursing theoretical frameworks that, in turn, guide the contributions of the nursing discipline. The humanbecoming paradigm serves as the primary highlighted focus of the article.

The physical, social, and psychological effects of Behcet's disease necessitate the person's adaptation in many areas. This study was conducted to examine the effect of psychoeducation provided to people living with Behcet's disease in the context of the Roy adaptation model on illness adjustment, dyadic adjustment, self-esteem, and psychiatric symptoms. The study was quasi-experimental. The study was with 70 patients with Behcet's disease: 35 patients were in the intervention group and the same number in the control group. The data of the study were collected using the Adaptation to Chronic Illness Scale, Dyadic Adjustment Scale, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and Brief Symptom Inventory. A seven-session psychoeducation program was provided to the intervention group. After the psychoeducation program, adaptation to illness increased significantly and psychiatric symptoms decreased significantly in the intervention group compared with the control group (P < .05).
