A brief history of biodynamic craniosacral therapy and Chinese medicine is addressed in the article. Their main concepts in different discourses are analyzed. A fundamental similarity in the ideas underlying these two medical systems has been found.

A standard X-ray examination makes it possible to identify the presence of typical signs of osteochondrosis, as well as to reveal a number of local X-ray changes in the form of configuration distortions of the spine. The X-ray study data showed that after a course of osteopathic treatment patients with lumbar osteochondrosis demonstrated the restoration of the distorted configuration of the spine (26.3%), elimination of flexion (27.4%) and extension (28.5%) restrictions. The complex therapy, which included osteopathic treatment, facilitated the more evident positive dynamics of structural and functional changes in the lumbar spine. The comparative analysis of clinical and radiological manifestations and data of structural and functional changes in the vertebral motor segments in patients with lumbar osteochondrosis, who underwent osteopathic treatment, indicates the high efficiency of the proposed complex of restorative measures.

35 patients with bronchial asthma were examined in order to determine the optimal criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of a separate manual procedure (medical massage). It was established that changes in the respiration function after the massage procedure, according to the indicators obtained by the methods of general plethysmography and spirometry, were multidirectional. Bronchial resistance (Raw) significantly decreased, and bronchial specific conductance (Sgaw) increased (-19.50.52 and +23.93.9%, respectively; p < 0.05), with a simultaneous decrease in functional residual capacity by 8.500.98%. The subjective sensation of shortness of breath also significantly decreased (VAS= - 14.810.8%; p < 0.01). Bronchodilation response after medical massage in terms of SGaw correlated with VAS dynamics (r=0.642, p<0.05). At the same time, the traditionally determined indicators of the respiratory function decreased (PEF -12.01.8%, FEV1 = -9.65.1%), and it is interpreted as a deterioration in the respiratory function according to the generally accepted assessment. Therefore, a direct assessment of manual exposure should be based on clinical and functional indicators that reflect the targeted manual impact on the pathogenetic mechanisms of the disease.

The new coronavirus infection disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 has led to COVID-19 pandemic. Various clinical manifestations and complications have resulted in long-term health consequences which are collectively referred to as the post-COVID syndrome. It manifests itself in multiple organ failure: lungs, heart, brain, which can lead to disability of patients. The COVID-19 disease is treated symptomatically. Human respiratory system is the first “target” of the COVID-19 disease. Currently, there is still no evidence base for an optimal rehabilitation program for patients with the post-COVID syndrome. Health recovery after pneumonia depends on the functional disorders that patients have. In case of the COVID-19 disease the respiratory rehabilitation aims at minimizing disability and improving the quality of life by relieving symptoms of dyspnoea, reducing anxiety, and maintaining body functions. The role of manual methods in the elimination of respiratory complications is to prevent the formation of irreversible changes in the lung tissue, to restore the pulmonary function and the function of transportation and utilization of oxygen by tissues, organs and systems of the body.

The article highlights the materials of a study on the effectiveness of osteopathic treatment on the dynamics of symptoms in patients with vertebral visceral syndrome against the consolidated compression fractures of Th9-Th10. The study involved patients of both sexes, with the mean age of 29.4±6.5 years, the treatment lasted from 10 to 14 weeks. It was determined that following the osteopathic treatment in patients, the number of complaints decreased, the mobility of the spine in the thoracic and cervical regions increased, and the condition of the gastric mucosa improved.

The article highlights the materials of the influence of complex rehabilitation measures with the inclusion of osteopathic treatment on the symptom’s dynamics in patients with anxiety-phobic disorders. The study involved patients of both sexes, aged from 23 to 49 years, the treatment lasted from 6 to 8 weeks. It has been determined that against the osteopathic treatment, the number of complaints in patients decreases, the indices of vegetative status return to normal, and the frequency of incidences of somatic dysfunctions decreases.

The long-held opinions of the e ect of osteopathic techniques do not often withstand a test. It is no wonder because they were formed in the era that is technologically far from us. Today we have technical capabilities to look more closely at all the elements of Sutherland’s cranial concept. This article makes an attempt to compare impacts on the bone and neural components of the Primary Respiratory Mechanism by assessing the heart rate variability.
