Background Although structured clinical interviews are considered the gold standard for assessing binge eating disorder (BED), the self-administered Binge Eating Scale (BES) has been widely used as a screening tool for BED in clinical research. However, the psychometric properties of the BES among Chinese young adults remain unclear. This study aimed to examine the validity of a Chinese version of the BES with a large sample. Methods A total of 2182 young adult college students were tested using the Simplified Chinese version of BES (SCBES), the 7-Item Binge-Eating Disorder Screener (BEDS-7), the Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7), and the Dual-Modes of Self-Control Scale (DMSC). The frequency of objective binge-eating episodes was used as a measure of severity. Validity and reliability of the SCBES were assessed through multiple analyses, along with the item analysis. Results The data revealed that the SCBES demonstrated reasonable reliability and validity. The Cronbach’s α value was 0.813, with a one-month test–retest reliability of 0.835. The exploratory factor analysis (EFA) extracted three first-order factors, which explained a total of 53.82% of the variance. The confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) confirmed the three-factor model (ie, Binge-eating behaviors, Lack of control, Negative affects related to overeating), with a good model fit. The SCBES also demonstrated excellent concurrent and criterion validity, significantly correlating with the BEDS-7 and frequency of objective binge-eating episodes (r=0.760–0.782, p<0.001). Gender, body mass index, depression, anxiety, impulsivity, and self-control were significantly associated with the total score of SCBES. Conclusion The SCBES demonstrated sound psychometric properties and exhibited good cross-cultural adaptability in Chinese young adults, with a novel three-factor model fitting the data best. This scale could serve as a useful screening tool for identifying the severity of binge eating behaviors among Chinese youths.

Purpose As of the end of 2022, over 20 million women worldwide, aged 15 and above, are living with HIV. Stigma remains a formidable barrier for women living with HIV/AIDS, hindering their access to healthcare and exacerbating health disparities. Indeed, some women living with HIV/AIDS can successfully confront and overcome stigma. There remains a paucity of qualitative research exploring the stigma coping strategies of women living with HIV/AIDS in China. This study was aimed to gain the deeper understanding of stigma experienced by women living with HIV/AIDS and coping strategies. Patients and Methods We recruited diverse participants using snowball sampling and purposive sampling. Semi-structured personal in-depth interviews were conducted with 30 women living with HIV/AIDS from December 2022 to June 2023. The samples were from four HIV/AIDS designated hospitals. The data were analyzed using the Colaizzi seven-step model. Results The experiences of stigma among women living with HIV/AIDS included family role (wife/mother/grandmother) collapse and disgusted by family, resignation in being shunned by others, helplessness due to social exclusion, grief at being devaluated, and resentment for experiencing injustice. The coping strategies used to deal with stigma included concealing their conditions, avoiding socialization, and attempting to retaliate against society. Conclusion Healthcare professionals are recommended to offer women living with HIV/AIDS effective emotional support and guidance to cope with stigma. The study highlights the stigma they face, providing valuable evidence for policymakers. Recommendations emphasize the importance of developing services addressing both physical and psychological needs of women living with HIV/AIDS.

Purpose Despite growing evidence of significant role of leader perfectionism in the workplace, few theoretical accounts have delved into intricate dynamics of interpersonal relationships impacted by leader perfectionism, nor have they explored the extent to which these interactions might stimulate employee unethical behavior. From an interpersonal relationship perspective, based on interpersonal complementarity theory, this study proposes a link between leader perfectionism and employee deviant behavior while assessing the mediating impact of supervisor-subordinate relationship conflict, and the moderating influence of employee narcissism. Methods This study employed three-wave surveys, with 335 employees (female 55.8%, 26–35 years old 67.4%, bachelor’s degree 61.5%, worked 3–10 years 67.4%, worked with their current leader 1–5 years 66.3%) across 11 enterprises in Chinato reduce the risk of common method bias. On this basis, MPLUS 7.4 was used to test the confirmatory factor analysis of data, and SPSS 24.0 was used to test the hypotheses. Results (1) Leader perfectionism has a positive effect on supervisor-subordinate relationship conflict. (2) Leader perfectionism has a significantly positive effect on employee deviant behavior via supervisor-subordinate relationship conflict. (3) Employee narcissism positively moderates the relationship between leader perfectionism and supervisor-subordinate relationship conflict, and further positively moderates the indirect effect of leader perfectionism on employee deviant behavior via supervisor-subordinate relationship conflict. Introduction Bullying is a significant concern for young people, with studies consistently showing a link between bullying and negative emotional consequences. However, the mechanisms that underlie this association remain unclear, particularly in terms of the classroom environment. This study aimed to explore the paradoxical phenomenon between bullying victimization and emotional adaptation among junior high school students in China, using the hypothesis of the healthy context paradox. Methods The study involved 880 students (565 girls; Mage=14.69; SD=1.407 years), and data were collected using self-reported surveys. The findings of the study, utilizing multilevel structural equation modeling (MSEM) techniques, demonstrated a cross-level moderated effect of classroom-level bullying victimization on the relationship between individual bullying victimization and emotional adaptation. Results Specifically, the results indicated that in classrooms with higher levels of victimization, the association between individual bullying victimization and increased depressive symptoms and State&Trait anxiety was more pronounced. These findings support the “Healthy context paradox” hypothesis in the Chinese context and provide insight into the mechanisms underlying this phenomenon. Discussion The results suggest that the classroom environment plays a crucial role in shaping the emotional consequences of bullying and that addressing classroom victimization is crucial for promoting emotional health among young people. Purpose Physical exercise is an important predictor of deviant behavior in adolescents; however, the paths and mechanisms underlying this relationship remain understudied. Patients and Methods This cross-sectional study used education tracking data of 8725 Chinese adolescents (4453 males, 4240 females, average age 14 ± 0.73) to construct a chain mediation model to explore whether sleep quality and mental health mediated the relationship between physical exercise and adolescent deviant behavior. Results The results show that physical exercise cannot directly predict adolescent deviant behavior; however, it can indirectly affect deviant behavior through the mediating effect of sleep quality and mental health as well as the chain mediating benefit of “sleep quality–mental health”. Conclusion Sleep quality and mental health are important internal factors of physical exercise that inhibit deviant adolescent behavior. The lack of physical activity and poor sleep quality should be prioritized in interventions regarding deviant behavior among Chinese adolescents.

Purpose With the rapid development of information, digital networks, and artificial intelligence technologies, the new generation of children growing up with electronic products faces the dilemma of addiction to online games. There is a significant correlation between the addiction of rural children to online games and the lack of proper parental upbringing. Patients and Methods Based on purposive sampling, the research selected 41 sixth-grade rural children, 20 parents, and 14 teachers from three cities in Zhejiang Province, China. Three rounds of semi-structured, in-depth interviews were conducted. Results The research portrayed that the parental upbringing styles of rural children addicted to online games could be categorized into four types: conflict and chaos type, indulgent and permissive type, disciplinary neglect type, and coercive and brutal type. All four parenting styles were related to emotional involvement and value guidance. Discussion Both the parenting styles of rural parents and the children’s addiction to online games were difficult to self-update and change, and they mutually “affirmed” and even reinforced each other. Insufficient cultural capital was found in rural families, resulting in a closed loop between parental upbringing and online game addiction. Introducing professional expertise, increasing cultural capital, and promoting improvement in rural parenting styles are crucial.

Based on the theory of stress and coping and emotion regulation theory, the present study examined the mediating role of self-compassion and trauma-related shame between bullying victimization and cyber aggression/prosocial behavior. Patients and Methods We gathered self-reporting data on bullying victimization, self-compassion, trauma-related shame, cyber aggression, and prosocial behavior from 634 college students in China using a three-wave longitudinal design survey. Structural equation modeling was used to test temporal mediation. Results The results showed that bullying victimization predicted cyber aggression and prosocial behavior via trauma-related shame and the chain effect of self-compassion and trauma-related shame. Moreover, self-compassion also mediated the relationship between bullying victimization and prosocial behavior. Objective: To investigate the current situation, trending subjects, and future directions in the field of burnout among nurses, and to serve as a resource for researchers conducting related research. Methods: The bibliometric analysis was carried out using R package “bibliometrix”, bibliometric online analysis platform (https:// bibliometric.com/) and VOSviewer (1.6.18). Results: The leading countries that had a significant impact on this field were the USA and China. University of Pennsylvania was the most influential institution. Journal of Nursing Management was the top productive journal. Critical care, oncology care, acute care, and infectious disease care were more likely to lead to symptoms of burnout among nurses. “Mental health”, “job satisfaction”, “stress”, and “COVID-19” were the current hot topics in this field. Conclusion: Our study not only provides a thorough outline to assist researchers in understanding the leading countries, institutions, journals, and potential collaborators, but it also examines the current and upcoming trends in this field and inspires researchers to select research directions.

Purpose Negotiable fate as a belief in coping with the difficulties and uncertainties of life has an impact on people’s mental health. This study aims to understand the influence of negotiate fate on college students’ life satisfaction and its underlying mechanism. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted with the participation of 1523 students from six universities across China. The study aimed to measure the variables of negotiable fate, self-esteem, positive psychological capital, and life satisfaction of all participants. To investigate the effect of negotiable fate on college students’ life satisfaction and the mediating roles of self-esteem and positive psychological capital in this relationship, a serial mediation effects model using Hayes’ PROCESS was employed. Results The results suggest that negotiable fate has a positive predictive effect on college students’ life satisfaction. The impact of negotiable fate on college students’ life satisfaction was mediated by self-esteem and positive psychological capital, and the chained mediation of self-esteem and positive psychological capital. Conclusion To summarize, the belief of negotiable fate has practical significance for the enhancement of college student’s mental health and quality of life, and the cultivation of college students’ belief of negotiable fate can be actively promoted in the future to help them better cope with the uncertainties and challenges in their lives to improve their life satisfaction.

Objective Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) behavior is very common in adolescents with depression, and childhood trauma is considered one of the distal risk factors for its exacerbation. Rumination caused by adverse traumatic experiences, which can be transferred through NSSI behavior, can alleviate symptoms of depression in adolescents. The current research focuses on the relationship between the three, further exploring whether rumination is a mediator in the relationship between childhood trauma and NSSI behavior on the basis of previous studies, and provides some suggestions for future early intervention for adolescents with depression. Methods A total of 833 adolescent patients with depression who met the DSM-5 criteria for depressive episode were recruited from 12 hospitals in China. The Chinese version of the Function Assessment of Self-mutilation, Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, and Rumination Inventory were used as research tools. Results The scores of childhood trauma and rumination in adolescents with depression in the NSSI group were higher than those in the non-NSSI group. A Pearson’s correlation analysis showed that childhood trauma was positively correlated with rumination (r=0.165, P<0.01), different types of childhood trauma were significantly positively correlated with rumination and its three factors, and these results were statistically significant. Rumination partially mediated the relationship between childhood trauma and NSSI behavior in depressed adolescent patients (effect size=0.002), and the effect in female participants (effect size=0.003), was greater than that in male participants (effect size=0.002). Conclusion Childhood trauma and rumination were key factors for NSSI behavior in adolescents with depression. Childhood trauma not only has a direct effect on NSSI behavior in adolescent depression, but also plays an indirect effect on NSSI behavior through rumination.
