Germination Characteristics and Seedling Growth of Pseudolysimachion nakaianum (Ohwi) T. Yamaz. Seeds According to Light Quality Type 中野假单胞菌的萌发特性及幼苗生长。种子按轻质类型分类

Background and objective: This study was conducted to understand the effect of different quality of light-emitting diodes (LED) on the germination characteristics and growth of Pseudolysimachion nakaianum.Methods: The LED light irradiation was divided into white, red, blue, and red:blue (1:1). To investigate the germination characteristics, 30 seeds were placed in a Petri dish in three replicates for 8 days. Average germination rate, germination speed, germination uniformity, and average germination time were measured. To investigate the growth of seedlings, plant height, plant width, leaf length, leaf width, leaf number, fresh weight, dry weight and T/R ratio were examined 6 weeks after sowing, and chlorophyll fluorescence (maximum quantum yield, electron transport rate) was measured.Results: The final germination rate and germination speed were highest at red:blue (1:1) LED irradiation. Regarding growth and chlorophyll fluorescence measurements, red:blue LED showed the best growth results, with no significant difference in Fv/Fm between different types of light quality, and the electron transport rate was the highest under red:blue LED irradiation. Also, total fresh/dry weight and T/R ratio were highest for red:blue LED, it is presumed to promote the biomass of entire plant.Conclusion: The results proved that Pseudolysimachion nakaianum showed red LED conditions promoted germination, but cultivation under red:blue LED conditions is judged to be suitable for seedling growth and photosynthesis.

A Phenomenological Study on Self-growth through the Experience of Horticultural Therapy by Welfare Horticultural Therapists 福利园艺治疗师从园艺治疗经验看自我成长的现象学研究

Background and objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate whether welfare horticultural therapists (hereinafter referred to as "welfare HTs") have achieved self-growth through horticultural therapy experiences.Methods: The subjects of this study are 8 welfare HTs who have actively worked for more than 3 years after receiving a welfare HT license from the Korea Horticultural Therapy Welfare Association. As a research method, Colaizzi's phenomenological method was used. Through the study, a total of 123 semantic components, 34 themes, and 14 theme clusters were collected under 5 categories.Results: The five categories are 'feeling dissatisfied with life', 'encountering horticultural therapy', 'being mesmerized by horticultural therapy', 'difficulties in horticultural therapy', and 'experiencing self-growth through horticultural therapy'. The findings of this study are as follows. Welfare HTs have developed themselves through horticultural therapy experiences. They have had a desire to develop themself into a better existence since learning about horticultural therapy, and working in the treatment field, using plants, through the recovery of clients and various difficult experiences, has consoled them and improved their emotional control and self-esteem.Conclusion: This study has the following significance. First, it focused on the specific context of working as a welfare HT. Second, it attempts an empirical study on self-growth through the experiences of welfare HTs, an important element in the field of horticultural therapy, research of which has thus far been focused only on therapy programs . Third, it sought to determine how welfare HTs achieve self-growth, so it seems that welfare HTs will be able to use these findings to learn about and develop the abilities required to prepare themselves as mature experts.

An Analysis of Care Farm Status as Basic Data for the Quality Management of Agro-Healing Facilities 农业疗养设施质量管理基础数据——疗养农场现状分析

Background and objective: This study was conducted to identify the current status of domestic agricultural business operations related to the design and business model of care farms in order to manage quality for the certification of excellent Agro-Healing Facilities (AHFs) that meet the needs of the times given the increasing demand for agro-healing.Methods: An online survey was conducted of 170 agro-healing business entities nationwide, and the collected data were frequency-coded using SPSS Ver. 25. Chi-square was conducted for frequency analysis and significance was tested by one-way ANOVA.Results: For the type of business, individual businesses were the most common (118 businesses), and for the total sales of the business, 30 million won to less than 100 million won was the most common (57 businesses. For the total number of employees, businesses with 2 workers were the largest group (35.9%). In terms of the qualification standards for the CEOs and employees of care farms, 152 employees (89.4%) had completed education in agro-healing. In terms of the land use status of care farms, 141 individual businesses (82.9%) owned lands, and the average land area was 123,626.05 ㎡ for farmland, 178,195.98 ㎡ for land, and 62,511.51 ㎡ for plant cultivation area. The most frequently planted plant was sweet potatoes, and the least planted was plum. For functional plants mainly used in the programs, vegetables were the most common, followed by flowers, fruit trees and landscaping plants, special and food crops, and herbs. A non-parametric χ² test of all items was statistically significant (p < .001).Conclusion: The AHF certification scheme, which will be implemented from the end of June 2024, will select excellent facilities from among existing AHFs to provide correct information to the public and lay a foundation that will support the spread of sustainable agro-healing. It is expected that this study will provide useful basic data for establishing care farm business models and seeking future direction for care farms.

Where Are Landscape Designers&apos; Spatial Abilities in the Brain? An fMRI Study 景观设计师在哪里?大脑的空间能力?一项fMRI研究

Background and objective: To effectively understand and communicate their work, landscape designers should possess excellent spatial abilities. Neurological methods have confirmed that activation of the occipital lobe, parietal cortex, and prefrontal cortex affect the judgment of space; however, few studies have measured spatial abilities in landscape design. This study aimed to identify the potential role of various brain regions during spatial interpretation processes by landscape designers, particularly the effect of stimulating the frontal lobe on enhancing design capabilities.Methods: This study tested the spatial abilities of landscape designers when transforming a planar drawing into a sectional drawing and the brain regions activated in this process. The subjects were asked to identify the correct option when matching given section lines in a planar drawing. The correct answer rate and response time were used to score brain activation during spatial task processes. A total of 16 valid subjects were divided into high- and low-accuracy groups according to the correct answer rate.Results: The results for the high-accuracy group showed that the left inferior frontal gyrus was activated during spatial design tasks. In contrast, the findings for the low-accuracy group revealed that the left middle occipital gyrus was activated for processing visual information.Conclusion: The findings suggest that the frontal lobe plays a role in allowing landscape designers to make planar to cross-sectional inferences via mental rotations and categorical spatial relations. The findings offer implications for landscape designers in stimulating the frontal lobe and enhancing their design capabilities.

Growth Responses to two Commercial Plant Growth Retardants with Different Concentration in Potted Geranium 两种不同浓度的商品植物生长抑制剂对盆栽天竺葵生长的影响

Background and objective: The aim of this study was to elucidate the effect of varying treatment concentrations of two different plant growth retardants, acting at different inhibition positions during the biosynthetic process, on the growth characteristics of geranium (Pelargonium × hortorum) and then to provide essential data to improve the quality of pot plant production.Methods: Aqueous solutions of diniconazole (Binnari) and daminozide (B-9) at concentrations of 0 (distilled water), 50, 100, 200, and 400 mg⋅L-1 were prepared for the geranium 'Ringo 2000TM Deep Red'. These solutions were applied by foliar spraying twice at 10-day intervals. Growth characteristics such as plant height, leaf size and relative chlorophyll content (SPAD) were then assessed.Results: When Binnari was applied at concentrations of 0, 50, 100, 200, and 400 mg⋅L-1 , the corresponding plant heights were 29.5, 23.8, 24.1, 23.0, and 18.4 cm, respectively. There was a statistically significant decrease in plant height with increasing concentration. Conversely, for B-9, plant height was significantly reduced to 26.7 cm only at the 400 mg⋅L-1 concentration, indicating a less pronounced inhibitory effect compared to Binnari. Leaf width showed a significant decreasing trend with increasing Binnari application concentrations and was 4.6, 4.7, 4.1, 4.2, and 3.9 cm respectively. However, there was no significant difference due to the B-9 treatment. Chlorophyll content increased with increasing concentrations of both retardants.Conclusion: In conclusion, Binnari showed a greater inhibitory effect on geranium growth compared to B-9. The application of Binnari at 400 mg⋅L-1 resulted in the greatest increase in the ornamental value of the geranium. Furthermore, diniconazole acts during the early stage before the splitting of the GA1 and GA4 pathways, thus inhibiting the biosynthesis of both active gibberellins. In contrast, daminozide inhibits the step just before GA1 biosynthesis. It is concluded that GA4 serves as the dominant active gibberellin in geranium plants.

Leaf width showed a significant decreasing trend with increasing Binnari application concentrations and was 4.6, 4.7, 4.1, 4.2, and 3.9 cm respectively. However, there was no significant difference due to the B-9 treatment. Chlorophyll content increased with increasing concentrations of both retardants.Conclusion: In conclusion, Binnari showed a greater inhibitory effect on geranium growth compared to B-9. The application of Binnari at 400 mg⋅L<sup>-1</sup> resulted in the greatest increase in the ornamental value of the geranium. Furthermore, diniconazole acts during the early stage before the splitting of the GA<sub>1</sub> and GA<sub>4</sub> pathways, thus inhibiting the biosynthesis of both active gibberellins. In contrast, daminozide inhibits the step just before GA<sub>1</sub> biosynthesis. Comparative Analysis of Future Landslide Susceptible Areas Based on Climate Change Scenario Applications 基于气候变化情景应用的未来滑坡易感区对比分析

Background and objective: Landslides have inflicted significant damage to human lives and property for many years, leading to substantial socio-economic costs and environmental degradation. With the advent of climate change, the increase and intensification of rainfall exacerbate the risk of landslides. Considering this scenario, understanding the priorities in landslide response becomes crucial. This study aims to compare methods of predicting future landslide-prone areas, explore accurate forecasting techniques, and determine the landslide response priorities at the municipal level in the study Methods: (1) Collection and development of the landslide inventory map and landslide conditioning factors. (2) Constructing the landslide susceptibility model (LSM) using the landslide inventory map and conditioning factors. (3) Projecting rainfall data from periods B and C onto the LSM of past period A. (4) Comparing and analyzing landslide-prone areas for each scenario and year. (5) Identifying areas vulnerable to landslides based on the scenario with the most frequent occurrence of landslide-prone areas during the rainy seasons in periods B and C.Results: From the LSM, the landslide susceptible area (LSA) for period A was identified as 31,902 ㎢. All Supply-side platform(SSP) scenarios displayed an increasing trend in landslide-prone areas, with the SSP5-8.5 scenario displaying the most significant increase. Taking this into consideration, landslide response priorities were established, with Goseong County in South Gyeongsang ranking first with an LSA ratio of 88.4%. This suggests that this area should be prioritized for future landslide risk mitigation.Conclusion: The study provides a foundational model for future landslide response strategies which consider environmental changes. limitations of the study were challenges in considering landslide conditioning factors other than rainfall when analyzing future landslide susceptibility. Future studies will aim to provide more reliable information through higher resolution analysis and damage scale predictions and to discern response priorities.

Applying Ecological Principles of Design for Restoring Brownfields: A Case Study in River Rouge, MI 应用生态设计原则恢复棕地:以密歇根州胭脂河为例

Background and objective: Failing industrial cities have left behind a legacy of social, economic, and environmental decline. The aftermath includes cities that have experienced departing residents, decaying infrastructure, and urban blight. Although there are many contributing factors to degradation, for cities such as Detroit, MI, much of its infrastructure has become vacant, and due to previous heavy industrial use, some of the lots have turned into brownfields. This research aims to create a design guideline for revitalizing industrial vacant lands or brownfields through the application of ecological design principles.Methods: By adopting a case study approach, this research focuses on safely reconstructing the economic, social, and environmental health of communities by creating an ecological design matrix based on the landscape ecology principles of design; and applying those elements to the 80" Hot Mill company, located in River Rouge, MI, United States. Additionally, a landscape performance assessment was conducted to evaluate the benefits of the proposed planning and outcomes regarding environmental, social, and economic aspects.Results: Following the creation of a master plan, the post-design metrics show positive environmental outputs such as the reduction of carbon sequestration, air pollution elements, waste from the site, and an increase in the retention of stormwater. The social impacts measured showed favorable outcomes which included visual quality, safety features, the addition of recreational and gathering spaces, as well as bike lanes and pedestrian walking paths. Economically, improvements have been seen in stormwater maintenance costs and energy savings.Conclusion: The findings from this research aim to help future designers and planners in implementing ecological design principles in order to optimize the restoration processes of brownfields and vacant lands.

Research Trends on the Effects of Forest Therapy in Korea and Ways to Improve the Level of Medical Evidence: A Scoping Review 韩国森林疗法效果的研究趋势和提高医学证据水平的途径:范围审查

Background and objective: Studies on the effects of forest therapy are clinical research that reveals the effects suitable for the purpose of therapy by applying a forest therapy program, which is a complex intervention, to humans in various forest environments. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to find out the characteristics of existing studies on the effects of forest therapy and to suggest ways to improve the level of evidence for future research results. In this study, a scoping review was conducted to find out how studies on the effects of forest therapy were conducted based on the medical clinical research method in domestic studies on the effects of forest therapy.Methods: The scoping review utilized a procedure proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). A total of 564 studies were searched and 57 were used in the final analysis.Results: As a result of the analysis, only 1 study (1.8%) had a manual to reproduce the forest therapy program, and 56 studies (98.2%) reported only brief information on the program. As for the report on forest therapy environments, there were articles that mentioned some therapy environments, but none predicted the effects or reported about reproducibility. Among the reports on forest therapy environments, 21.1% reported about both forest and thermal environments, and 26.3% reported only about the forest environment.Conclusion: From the perspective of clinical research, the level of evidence for studies on the effects of forest therapy so far has been found to be very low, and methods for applying clinical research methods to improve this have been discussed. Clinical research is a prerequisite for verifying medical effects in order to raise the level of forest therapy from wellness to treatment support activities, and it must be actively utilized in the future.

Development and Application of Agro-Healing Program to Promote Cognitive Health of the Elderly 农业愈合计划促进老年人认知健康的开发与应用

Background and objective: This study aimed to develop agro-healing program to enable the elderly to improve cognitive health, and to determine impacts on cognitive, emotional, and physical function through applying the program to seniors at welfare facilities.Methods: The agro-healing program was developed in consultation with experts on material selection, activity types, physical exercises, and evaluation methods. The program was conducted for seniors who used Jeonju Y Senior Welfare Center from May to August 2022. The total of 19 participants in the program were divided into 9 in the control group and 10 in the experimental group.A agro-healing program with 12 activities was given to the experimental group. As a pre- and post-test, the results of a cognitive screening test, short form of geriatric depression scale, and physical fitness test for the elderly were compared. For the experimental group, their activity preference was surveyed. The results were analyzed using SAS 9.4.Results: The agro-healing program to promote cognitive health did not show significant results in terms of differences in mean scores for cognitive, emotional, and physical area between the control and experimental groups in the pre- and post-test. However, through this study, it was found that the subjects preferred interesting activities with work stages using plants.Conclusion: A cognitive health promotion program for the elderly was developed and applied. Although the effectiveness of program was not proven, it is expected that activities preferred by the elderly can be used as basic data in agro-healing programs for the cognitive health of the elderly.

{"title":"Development and Application of Agro-Healing Program to Promote Cognitive Health of the Elderly","authors":"Eun-Seong Lee, Ji-Won Moon, Sun-Jin Jeong, Eun-Ha Yoo, Sang-Mi Lee, In-Kyoung Hong","doi":"10.11628/ksppe.2023.26.5.523","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.11628/ksppe.2023.26.5.523","url":null,"abstract":"Background and objective: This study aimed to develop agro-healing program to enable the elderly to improve cognitive health, and to determine impacts on cognitive, emotional, and physical function through applying the program to seniors at welfare facilities.Methods: The agro-healing program was developed in consultation with experts on material selection, activity types, physical exercises, and evaluation methods. The program was conducted for seniors who used Jeonju Y Senior Welfare Center from May to August 2022. The total of 19 participants in the program were divided into 9 in the control group and 10 in the experimental group.A agro-healing program with 12 activities was given to the experimental group. As a pre- and post-test, the results of a cognitive screening test, short form of geriatric depression scale, and physical fitness test for the elderly were compared. For the experimental group, their activity preference was surveyed. The results were analyzed using SAS 9.4.Results: The agro-healing program to promote cognitive health did not show significant results in terms of differences in mean scores for cognitive, emotional, and physical area between the control and experimental groups in the pre- and post-test. However, through this study, it was found that the subjects preferred interesting activities with work stages using plants.Conclusion: A cognitive health promotion program for the elderly was developed and applied. Analysis of Farm Work in a Vertical Farm 垂直农场的农场工作分析

Background and objective: Farm work involves a range of postures depending on the type of work, and repeated farm work performed in an uncomfortable posture can cause serious functional disorders affecting the lower back, shoulders, joints, and muscles. For the physically disabled to participate in farm work, it is essential to analyze farm work based on their individual levels of physical ability. This study analyzed farm work in vertical smart farms to develop care farming services for the purpose of vocational rehabilitation of the physically handicapped.Methods: Farm work was analyzed through a field survey in a vertical farm located in P-si, Gyeonggi-do. Based on the analysis, major farm work was classified into duties and tasks.Results: Through a filed survey, farm work in a vertical farm was categorized into six duties, and all tasks were mainly performed within the same workplace. The six duties were analyzed as sowing, raising seedlings, transplanting, planting, harvesting (including sorting and packaging), and post-harvest cleaning, which were further classified into 28 tasks as sub-areas.Conclusion: The result of this farm work analysis in a vertical farm will provide useful basic data for the development of care farming services for the vocational rehabilitation of the physically handicapped.
