Concentration Dependent Thermal Diffusivity of Mn3O4 Nanoparticles Using Dual Beam Thermal Lens Technique 利用双光束热透镜技术研究Mn3O4纳米颗粒的热扩散系数

Concentration dependent thermal diffusivity measurement of Mn3O4 nanoparticles dispersed in ethylene glycol has been studied using dual beam mode mismatched thermal lens technique. The results reveal that the thermal diffusivity of the nanofluid depends on the concentration of Mn3O4 nanoparticles. The thermal diffusivity values were found to be greater than that of ethylene glycol for all sample concentrations. The samples with this high value of thermal diffusivity can be used as coolant for thermoelectric devices. The non-radiative decay process induced by defect states in the material, size and shape of nanoparticles etc. are the factors that control the thermal diffusivity of the nanoparticles dispersed in a solvent. The variation in thermal diffusivity of the Mn3O4 nanofluid is explained on the basis of changes in absorption and emission spectra with sample concentration. It is found that thermal diffusivity is inversely related with the emission intensity.

. Light sources based on light-emitting diodes (LED) can be created for almost any wavelength suitable for exciting photosensitizers (PS). This paper presents the main approaches to develop LED-based light sources for well-controlled photodynamic exposure and the results of their implementation. High power density LED light sources were designed and tested for both in vitro and in vivo and photodynamic studies, as well as for irradiation of various pathological foci during photodynamic therapy. © 2021 Journal of Biomedical Photonics & Engineering.

Activation of Apoptosis and Autophagy by Gratiola Officinalis Extract in Human Tumor Cell Lines Gratila Officinalis提取物对人肿瘤细胞凋亡和自噬的激活作用

. The problem of creating antitumor drugs with new mechanisms of action that predominantly induce apoptosis is still topical. The extract of Gratiola officinalis is a potential antitumor agent containing mainly flavonoids. The aim of this research is to study the effects of Gratiola officinalis extract on activation of apoptosis and autophagy in breast adenocarcinoma SK-BR-3 and kidney carcinoma A-498 lines. Apoptotic activity of the extract was studied by flow cytofluorometry using Hoechst stain and double staining with annexin V plus propidium iodide. There was 96.3% of cells in SK-BR-3 culture in late apoptosis phase detected by flow cytofluorometry method at the extract concentration of 0.88 mg/ml, 86.3% of cells were in apoptosis by Hoechst stain. The concentration of 0.82 mg/ml caused apoptosis in half of the cells. The extract has cytoprotective activity at low concentration (0.0352 mg/ml). The cytoprotection mechanism is realized through the activation of autophagy. The maximum number of autophagosomes in kidney carcinoma cells is observed at the extract concentration of 0.056 mg/ml. Thus, Gratiola officinalis extract is able to block cytoprotective autophagy with increasing the extract concentration and to activate apoptosis in 85% of tumor cells. Detailed research should be continued to understand the mechanisms of antitumor activity of Gratiola officinalis extract.

. The article presents the results of studies of the melanin effect on recorded signals in laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF) and tissue reflectance oximetry (TO). By investigating the properties of recorded microvascular blood flow and skin oxygenation signals, we have gained new knowledge about race-related differences in the formation of these signals. The effect of the skin melanin content on the intensity of the recorded signals in the LDF and TO methods was evaluated, and the limitations in the use of these methods in representatives of different ethnic groups were shown. © 2021 Journal of Biomedical Photonics & Engineering.

Visualization and Spectral Analysis of Pubic Periosteum Atrophy 耻骨骨膜萎缩的可视化及频谱分析

. The atrophy of the pubic periosteum is developing in patients with a long history of femoral hernia. The traditional plastic surgery methods are efficient only in patients with femoral hernia when the Cooper ligament of the pubic periosteum is preserved. The aim of this study is to determine the thinning and atrophy degree of the pubic periosteum in patients with femoral hernia using computer tomography and Raman spectroscopy analysis. It was shown that thinning of the periosteum due to atrophy is accompanied by a significant change in the hydroxyapatite ν 1 PO 4 and Amide I (959/1660 cm – 1 ) Raman peaks ratio and decrease in the 1070/959 cm – 1 peaks. It was found that Raman spectroscopy is able to confirm the preservation and atrophy degree of the pubic periosteum during surgical resection with an 83% accuracy. © 2021 Journal of Biomedical Photonics & Engineering.

. The relaxation and contraction of the sphincter and dilator muscles of the iris play a critical role in vision, yet little is known about the biomechanical properties of these muscles. This study aimed to determine the elastic properties of the iris as a function of its anatomy and intraocular pressure. A high-resolution phase-sensitive OCE system was employed to detect acoustic radiation force induced propagation of elastic waves in the porcine iris in situ. Experiments were conducted at four different intraocular pressures (5, 10, 20, and 30 mmHg) with mechanical excitation at 1 kHz. The work is devoted to the study of the frequency features of the optical flow obtained from the video record of long-term video-electroencephalographic (video-EEG) monitoring data of patients with epilepsy. It is necessary to obtain features to recognize epileptic seizures and differentiate them from non-epileptic events. We propose to analyze the periodograms of the smoothed optical flow computed from the fragments of the patient ’ s video recordings. We use Welch's method to obtain periodograms. The values of the power spectral density of the optical flow at the selected frequencies are used as features. Using the clustering algorithm, seven groups of events are identified in video recordings and combined into three generalized classes. We train SVM classifier and conduct recognition of events in a test sample of 103 video fragments in four patients. The experiment indicates the accuracy of event classification equal to 90.3%. © 2021 Journal of Biomedical Photonics & Engineering.
