Abstract The utilization of TiB2 particles reinforced aluminum (Al6063) metal matrix composite materials in many different engineering fields has undergone a tremendous increase. Accordingly, the need of accurate machining of composites has increased enormously; an attempt has been made to assess the factors influencing surface roughness and material removal rate on machining the composite. The orthogonal array, the signal-to-noise ratio, and analysis of variance were employed to study the performance characteristics in turning operations of 5 and 10 wt. % TiB2 particles reinforced aluminum (Al6063) metal matrix composites. Taguchi method was used to find the optimal cutting factors for surface roughness (Ra) and material removal rate (MRR). Three cutting factors namely speed; feed and depth of cut were optimized with considerations of Ra and MRR. The experimental plan and analysis was based on the Taguchi L27 orthogonal array with three cutting factors using carbide tool (K20). The optimal parametric combination for K20 carbide insert was found to be feed, speed and depth of cut. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) result shows that feed the most significant process parameter on surface roughness followed by speed. For MRR result show that the speed and the feed are the significant parameters followed by the composition of composite material.

Abstract The thermostressed state of a bimetallic plate under the electromagnetic action in the mode with pulse modulated signal (MPMS) at the resonant frequencies of the electromagnetic field is studied. There are established the critical values of the parameters of the electromagnetic action at which the bimetallic plate loses its load-carrying ability as a constituent element.

Abstract This work is consisted to investigate the vibration behavior of FGM beams under different boundary conditions with diverse volume fraction. The main objective in this paper is to study the thickness influence of the sandwich beams skin on the frequencies of the structures. The classical Euler-Bernoulli theory (CLBT) with assuming that the material properties of the FGM layer will evaluated continuously in the thickness direction according to the power law (P-FGM) is used to derived the equation of motion. The frequencies obtained are compared with the natural frequencies of a two-material and those of the base materials.

Abstract The work presented in this study focus on the application of the method of the plans of experiences (MPE) to the study and the optimization of the quantification of the wear of the steels (XC48, A60) under the effect of a factor of environment in the occurrence Hydrogen. Modeling can draw inspiration from the mathematical models established by the (MPE) in order to analyze more deeply the phenomenon of the wear while taking account of the various relevant factors [1]. The MPE, introduced is a consistent set of tools and methods algèbro-statistics to establish and analyze the relationships in the quantities studied (responses) and their sources of variations (factors) [2]. This analysis may be qualitative: study of “screening” (determination of influential factors) or quantitative: methodology of the surfaces of answers (variation of responses according to the influential factors). In all cases, it has for the purpose of determination of mathematical models approached the answers expressed in terms of the factors. These models are deducted from the values obtained of series of experiments. The definition of these plans of experiences determines the measurable quality of models. The multiple facets of the MPE are then used as the basis for the development of strategy to optimize [3].

Abstract This paper presents a numerical study pertaining to on the active vibration control (AVC) of the 3-D rectangle simply supported plate bonded of the piezoelectric sensor/actuator pairs. A LQR controller is designed based on the independent mode space control techniques to stifle the vibration of the system. The change in the thickness of the patches was a clear impact on the control results, and also in the values of the voltage in actuator. The results were established by simulating in ANSYS and MATLAB.

Abstract In the present work, we consider a two dimensional axisymmetric problem of micropolar porous circular plate with thermal and chemical potential sources in the context of the theory of dual phase lag generalized thermoelastic diffusion. The potential functions are used to analyze the problem. The Laplace and Hankel transforms techniques are used to find the expressions of displacements, microrotation, volume fraction field, temperature distribution, concentration and stresses in the transformed domain. The inversion of transforms based on Fourier expansion techniques is applied to obtain the results in the physical domain. The numerical results for resulting quantities are obtained and depicted graphically. Effect of porosity, LS theory and phase lag are presented on the resulting quantities. Some particular cases are also deduced.

Abstract In this work we analyze the behavior of a nonlinear dynamical system using a probabilistic approach. We focus on the coexistence of solutions and we check how the changes in the parameters of excitation influence the dynamics of the system. For the demonstration we use the Duffing oscillator with the tuned mass absorber. We mention the numerous attractors present in such a system and describe how they were found with the method based on the basin stability concept.

Abstract In this paper a high accuracy position control strategy for a pneumatic actuation system subjected to a varying external force is proposed. A novel approach for the mathematical modeling of the pneumatic actuator, based on energy methods, is presented. The Lagrangian is derived from combining the kinetic and potential energies, leading to formulation of the Euler-Lagrange equation of motion. The nonlinear backstepping method is applied to derive the control law, and the derivative of the potential energy is used as the controlled parameter. Experimental results show that tracking a sine wave of 0.1m magnitude produces a maximum error of ±0.008m while the actuator is subjected to a time varying external force with a magnitude ranging from 570N to 1150N.

Abstract An effective predictive maintenance reposed on modeling, simulation, and on supervisory and prognostic techniques used to model the various phenomena. On this basis, and based on significant knowledge and parameters, we propose an approach based on stochastic processes that represent a mathematical structure for simulation, mainly the processes of continuous degradation and more particularly the Gamma process. Our work is devoted to the monitoring of the degradation process of the bearings at the level of a motor pump and makes it possible to evaluate the limiting operating time, as well as the evolution in time of the change of state. This methodology allows us to develop a mathematical model that describes the process of bearing degradation, thus providing a good prediction of failures and efficient maintenance planning for systems whose behavior is only partially predictable.

Abstract A thermal photovoltaic hybrid collector enables simultaneous electrical conversion of the solar radiation and recovery of heat absorbed by the cell. This energy cogeneration obviously yields the use of such systems which are very interesting in various fields. During the actual operation of the photovoltaic modules, the experimental characterization shows that the electrical efficiency decreases significantly with increasing temperature of the photovoltaic cells exposed to the sun. Our work focuses on an experimental study carried out in thermal transfer laboratory at the Faculty of Technology of the Tlemcen University, in order to analyze the effect of cell temperature, glazing on electrical performance, also the effect of the cooling of this cell.
