Urutaú Natural Reserve is a protected area in the southwest of Misiones province, Argentina. Regarding the mosquito fauna, 194 species have been recorded for Misiones province so far. It is known that many of them are vectors of pathogens and parasites that cause human and animal diseases. The objective of this work is to understand the mosquito community in order to consider their importance in pathogens and parasites transmission and compare different capturing techniques for mosquito diversity. Larvae, pupae and adults were collected. Comparing the number of species and individuals captured as adult with different methodologies, Net /insect hand aspirator was the most effective methodology capturing diversity of species while CDC light trap captured significantly higher number of individuals. We confirmed the presence of 30 mosquito species belonging to nine genera, of which 12 are suspected of being involved in pathogen transmission. Among them, Sabethes (Sabethes) albiprivus Theobald, the only mosquito from which the Yellow fever virus has been isolated in Argentina. Additionally, we recorded Culex (Culex) lahillei Bachmann & Casal for the first time in Misiones province, and Aedes (Protomacleaya) terrens (Walker) and Culex (Melanoconion) ribeirensis Forattini & Sallum are new citations for Capital Department, Misiones.

Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura) (Diptera: Drosophilidae) is an invasive pest species that uses a wide variety of commercial fruit as a breeding and feeding resource. The damage to the fruit generated by D. suzukii´ oviposition causes considerable economic losses. Therefore, the maintenance of D. suzukii in the lab conditions constitutes a fundamental tool for research proposal. Two of the determining factors affecting the lab rearing conditions are the culture medium and density. In this study, we evaluated the impact of these factors on three components associated with fitness: development time, larval-adult viability and body size, comparing the effects of three culture media: cornmeal (polenta), mashed potato and plum when the flies were reared at three densities: 10, 30 and 50 larvae per 5ml of culture medium. Our results revealed that the flies reared the cornmeal culture medium and at lower densities provide the better conditions for the maintenance of D. suzukii under lab conditions.

Neoanthylla (Kormilev, 1951) is a Neotropical genus of Phymatinae with three valid species: Neoanthylla bucki (Kormilev), Neoanthylla horvathi (Handlirsch), and Neoanthylla peruviana Kormilev. Morphologically, it is characterized by the elongated and oval profemur with the cuticular surface smooth and shiny; the procoxa long and subequal to the mesofemur; the prosternal carina long, reaching the anterior margin of the mesosternum; and the abdomen posteriorly entire. Neoanthylla species are scarcely documented in the literature, and the genital structures are unknown. In addition, the Brazilian species (N. bucki and N. horvathi) are known only by female specimens. Here, Neoanthylla is revisited, the diagnoses of the valid species are improved, images of the holotypes of N. horvathi and N. peruviana are provided, and the male of N. horvathi is described for the first time, including genital characters.

The second case of a bite by the “triangulate false widow” Steatoda triangulosa is reported on a human being. The case occurred in San Vicente, Buenos Aires, Argentina on a female 31 years old victim, who woke up felling a nuisance and spotting the spider on her arm. The spider inflicted two bites causing typical steatodism symptoms including local and radiating pain and malaise which lasted for about a day. In addition, the appearance of an erythema on each bite side that lasted about 10 days plus a haematoma in the first bite site which lasted for 3 days. The implications of the case in the context of current research in steatodism is discussed.

Drosophila suzukii Matsumura, 1931 (Diptera: Drosophilidae) is an invasive pest species that causes damage to fruit crops due to premature deterioration of ripe fruits by oviposition inside them. A review of D. suzukii detections in Argentina was carried out and we updated this list with the results of our sampling in the Northwest, Cuyo and Northeast regions. The surveys carried out determined the first detections in the provinces of Jujuy and Córdoba, revealing the continuous geographical expansion of this species.

In Argentina, food production is the basis of economic and social development. Several crops depend on entomophilous pollination. However, wild and managed pollinators are threatened by conventional agricultural management practices. In this work, we evaluate the economic value attributed to entomophilous pollination (EEV) of the main crops between 2013 and 2018. Our study focused on analyses of crops with varying degrees of pollinator dependence in terms, their harvested area, yield and total economic value (EV). The EEV attributed to pollinators and the vulnerability of each crop category were estimated. The EEV attributed exclusively to entomophilous pollination, in the 27 crops analyzed, was US$ 4.437 million, representing a contribution of the pollinators of 21,83% of the EV and 13,8 million tons of agricultural products. The EEV in decreasing order is industrial crops, fruit trees, vegetables, nuts and citrus. In industrial crops, where managed pollinators are not used, the contribution of pollinators was high, reaching US$3.655 million. Fruit trees and vegetables are the most vulnerable to an eventual decrease or absence of pollinators with estimated vulnerability rates of 68 and 38% respectively. These results show the economic contribution of the pollinators to the country's agriculture, the high vulnerability of agroecosystems and the effects in quantitative terms of a potential reduction in food production due to a pollination deficit. Finally, this work may be useful to guide decision-making and establish public policies aimed at promoting diversification and sustainability of agricultural models to guarantee food security.

The knowledge about the geographical distribution of Aedes patersoni Shanon and Del Ponte, Ae. scapularis (Rondani), Culex dolosus (Lynch Arribálzaga), Mansonia indubitans Dyar and Shannon, Psorophora cingulata (Fabricius), Toxorhynchites haemorrhoidalis separatus (Lynch Arribálzaga), Tx. purpureus (Theobald), Tx. theobaldi s. l. Dyar & Knab and Uranotaenia lowii Theobald in the Northwest of Argentina is extended. Likewise, they provided the first known localities for Ma. indubitans in the province of Salta and for Ae. serrato (Theobald), Ma. titillans (Walker) and Ps. ciliata (Fabricius) in the province of Jujuy. The presence of Ae. fulvithorax (Lutz), Ps. pallescens Edwards in Jujuy, Ur. pulcherrima Lynch Arribálzaga in Santiago del Estero and Anopheles pictipennis (Philippi) in Argentina, is discussed. This contribution updates the list of mosquitoes for the northwestern provinces of Argentina, increasing their numbers of species in Jujuy, La Rioja, Salta, Santiago del Estero and Tucumán to 68, 26, 102, 29 and 70 species, respectively. Additionally, information on the habitat of immature stages and the sanitary importance of the species mentioned is provided, as well as a complete list of the species present in the northwestern provinces of Argentina.

Pilobalia (Pimeliinae: Nycteliini) is an endemic genus of the Andean region of South America, distributed in Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina. The objective of this work was to update the knowledge of the genus in the Peruvian territory, providing an updated checklist of species and new distribution records. From examination of around 580 specimens, a total of 26 species and two subspecies of Pilobalia are recorded for Peru, incorporating two that were not previously recorded, P. decorata immaculata (Blanchard) and P. oblonga (Blanchard). Also distribution maps and comments about its distribution patterns are provided.
