Antimicrobial activity of Tetradenia riparia leaf essential oil 河豚叶精油的抗菌活性研究

Food spoilage is a widely neglected problem and the constant use of synthetic fungicides could develop resistant fungi. The objective of this study was to evaluate the chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of Tetradenia riparia leaf essential oil against foodborne disease microorganisms. Leaf essential oil was obtained by hydrodistillation and identified by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. The antimicrobial activity was studied by broth microdilution. The major compounds identified were oxygenated sesquiterpenes (43.6%): 14-hydroxy-9-epi-(E)-cariophylene (20.8%) and τ-cadinol (18.4%); followed by oxygenated diterpenes (24.6%): 6,7-dehydroroyleanone (12.6%) and 9β, 13β-epoxy-7-abiethene (10.6%); sesquiterpenic hydrocarbons (17.1%) and oxygenated monoterpenes (7.4%): fenchone (5.6%). The essential oil had broad antibacterial and antifungal activity, mainly against A. versicolor and P. ochrochloron with fungistatic and fungicidal activities and B. cereus, L. monocytogenes, and S. aureus with bacteriostatic and bactericidal activities. T. riparia leaf essential oil is a potential alternative to control microorganisms.

The effect of altitude and soil properties on the essential oil components of Turkish sage (Salvia fruticosa Mill.) 海拔和土壤性质对土耳其鼠尾草挥发油成分的影响

In this study, the effects of altitude and soil properties on the essential oil amounts and essential oil components of the Turkish sage (Salvia fruticosa Mill.) plant were investigated. A location in the south of Turkey in the Kaş district of Antalya with altitude ranges of 0-200 m, 300-500 m, and 600-800 m was defined as the study area. During the full flowering period of S. fruticosa, plants and soil samples were collected. The contents of the essential oils of the plants were analyzed using GC-MS. According to theresults obtained, the essential oil content of plants varied between 1.91% and 5.10%. The main component of the essential oils of the plants collected from all study areas was 1,8-cineol, at 44.93%. It was concluded that variations in the proportions of the components limonene and linalool, which are essential oil components of plants, are not only dependent on altitude but also on changes in soil texture and the total CaCO3 content of the soil.

Ethnobotanical survey of wild plants used in Gümüşhane province (Turkey) 土耳其g<s:1>姆<e:1>哈内省野生植物民族植物学调查

This study aimed to document the traditional uses of plants in Gümüşhane province. Ethnobotanical data on 74 taxa from 135 informants were collected between March 2018 and September 2019. Data were analyzed using quantitative indices of use-value (UV), information consent factor (ICF), and fidelity level (FL). The plants were used for different purposes, mainly for medicinal, food, and equipment. Malva neglecta, was the most used taxa for medicinal purposes. Polygonum aviculare was the most used taxon for food. Quercus petraea subsp. iberica and Pinus sylvestris were the most preferred species for equipment. Salvia verticillata, Rhamnus cathartica, Bilacunaria microcarpa, Taraxacum bessarabicum, Silene vulgaris, Carduus nutans, Helichrysum plicatum, Euphorbia esula subsp. tommasiniana, Thymus pubescens, and Phlomis herba-venti subsp. pungensare reported for the first time in the present study for various purposes.

Clausena excavatais a famous folklore medicinal plant in Asian region that is being used for the treatment of different disorders. This study investigated the cytotoxic effects of leaf extracts via MTT assay, as well as the in vitroapoptotic activities of the ethyl acetate C. excavataleaf extract (EACE) on human Burkitt’s lymphoma, Raji, cell line using annexin-V-FITC/propidium iodide flow cytometric assays. Pro-apoptotic (BAX) and anti-apoptotic (BCL-2, c-MYC) gene expressions were determined via real-time quantitative PCR. Phytochemical screening was done by Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). EACE has the lowest IC50(19.3 ± 0.35 μg/mL) among extracts. EACE-treated Raji cells after 48 h underwent apoptosis as evident by loss of cell viability and increase in the percentage of early and late apoptotic cells. The results also showed EACE mediated decreased in the BCL-2 and c-MYC gene expressions and increased in the BAX gene. C. excavatais a potential treatment for Burkitt lymphomathrough activation of apoptosis

The objective was to evaluate plant growth regulators and ethylene inhibitors on the development and leaf abscission of Schinopsis brasiliensis Engl. Zeatin (ZEA) was evaluated in concentrations combined with concentrations of indolacetic acid (IAA), naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) and indolbutyric acid (IBA). ZEA and 6-benzylamino purine (BAP) were evaluated in concentrations plus a control. Ethylene inhibitors, silver nitrate and cobalt chloride were evaluated in four concentrations. The addition of 0.2 μL-1 of NAA to 0.4 μL-1 of ZEA promotes a greater number of baraúna sprouts. At concentrations of 5 and 10 μM, cobalt chloride is more efficient than silver nitrate for reducing leaf abscission in baraúna. IAA is the most suitable auxin to be associated with ZEA for higher shoot length and number of buds. Silver nitrate from a concentration of 20 μM completely avoids leaf abscission while cobalt chloride has a maximum reduction in abscission at a concentration of 40 μM.

Traditional medicinal uses and biological activities of species of the genus Desmodium: a literature review 金缕草属植物的传统药用价值和生物活性:文献综述

The genus Desmodium includes about 350 species, distributed in tropical and subtropical regions around the world. The objective of this review was to associate the traditional medicinal uses of the genus Desmodium with its biological activities reported in the scientific literature. Traditional medicinal uses and biological activities were described in 56 species. More than 100 traditional medicinal uses have been reported in 43 countries, highlighting the use in inflammatory, gastrointestinal and infectious processes, muscular pain, rheumatic, renal and hepatic affections. Among the 45 biological activities experimentally evaluated, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective and antinociceptive were the most reported. The species with the highest number of studies were D. gangeticum, D. adscendens and D. styracifolium. In conclusion, several traditional medicinal uses have been experimentally supported, demonstrating the pharmacological potential of this genus.

The in vitro cytotoxicity against human melanoma cells, tyrosinase inhibition and antioxidant activity of Grewia tenax leaves extracts 青藤叶提取物对人黑色素瘤细胞的体外细胞毒性、酪氨酸酶抑制及抗氧化活性

Grewia tenax (Forssk.) Fiori (Malvaceae) grows in the Arabian Peninsula and is used for several medicinal purposes. To characterize the dermatological bioactivities of G. tenaxin terms of its antimelanoma, antityrosinase and antioxidant activities. Cytotoxicity was assessed by cell proliferation and mitochondrial viability assays. Ability to inhibit mushroom tyrosinase and scavenge free radicals were evaluated by an enzymatic and DPPH scavenging microtiter assay, respectively. Phytochemical analyses were carried out using TLC, HPLC-UV and NMR. The chloroform extract shown significant cytotoxic activity in terms of mitochondrial viability (43 ± 14 μg/mL). We identified lupeol and b-sitosterol as the main active components for the tyrosinase inhibitory activity of the hexane extract. Scavenging activity of the DPPH· radical was confined to the water extract. Extracts from this plant have the potential to be used as a base in the development of cosmeceutical products intended to whiten skin or to combat radical-induced physiopathological processes.

The interaction potential of Cynara scolymusL.,Mikania glomerataSpreng.,Rhamnus purshianaDC and Uncaria tomentosa(Willd. Ex Roem. & Schult.) with conventional drugs metabolized by the CYP3A4 metabolic route was tested in HeLa cell lines, using the in vitromodel of the hPXR. The herbal medicines C. scolymus(1.5 mg/mL dry extract) did not affect the receptor. On the other hand, M. glomerata(5.5 mg/mL dry extract), R. purshiana(1.5 mg/mL dry extract), and U. tomentosa(2.0 mg/mL dry extract) showed to be hPXR agonist, suggesting a potential interaction with the conventional drugs metabolized by the same isoforms of the CYP superfamily. The results from this study contribute to the use safer and more effective of these herbal medicines.

Ipomoea batatas has an enormous projection as functional food and it is an excellent source of anticancerous or chemopreventive substances. Plant tissue culture offers the possibility of inducing secondary metabolites production under controlled conditions and their projection for industrial purposes. To establish the state of knowledge regarding advances in polyphenols chemical elicitation from I. batatas and the possibility of producing potential anticancerous compounds in vitro culture systems, a bibliometric review and an analysis of information available until 2020 were made. Results showed that research field on which review was carried out is current and has a growing trend; however, sweet potato cell suspensions evaluation is scarce. Elicitation using compounds with hormonal effects represents a good alternative to increase phenolic acids production in this species. Advances in phenols elicitation from sweet potato cell suspensions will require search superior genotypes, and associating this knowledge with in vivo and in silico studies.

Optimization of ultrasound-assisted extraction of phenolic compounds and flavonoids from Hortia oreadicaleaf 超声辅助提取根叶中酚类化合物和黄酮类化合物的工艺优化

Hortia oreadica is indiscriminated used by people from Cerrado. However, vegetable raw material quality is decisive in obtaining intermediate and final products. So, this study aimed to establish quality parameters of H. oreadica. For this, we performed the phytochemical screening of H. oreadicaleaf and identified the best extractive conditions for phenolic compounds and flavonoids using factorial experimental design, varying the alcoholic strength, extraction temperature, and solid/liquid ratio in the ultrasound-assisted extraction method. The optimum extraction condition for phenolic compounds and flavonoids was 60% alcoholic strength,40°C temperature, and a solid/liquid ratio of 8 mg/mL. Under this setting, the phenolic and flavonoid contents were 0.171 ± 0.002 mg/mL(predicted value = 0.165) and 0.087 ± 0.002 mg/mL(predicted value = 0.084), respectively. The optimized extraction parameters could be upscaled to develop pharmaceutical drugs or nutraceutical products from this non-traditional plant species using an eco-friendly approach.
