In this article we consider the modulation of the plasma frequency switching current-phase dependence of Josephson systems based on the CuO2 harmonic mode into the anharmonic one. It is established the increase of the plasma frequency in the cuprate high-temperature superconductors arising due to deviation of dependence current-phase between the oxide planes in high-temperature superconductors from the standard sine wave form.

We have revealed a giant exchange bias (EB) in a colossal magnetoresistance Nd2/3Ca1/3MnO3 manganite at low temperatures, evident of its intrinsic interface exchange coupling. The phenomenon found confirms our previous assumption that the low temperature magnetic structure of the compound is represented by small (nano-sized) ferromagnetic clusters immersed within the charge-ordered antiferromagnetic matrix. Magnetic behavior of the Nd2/3Ca1/3MnO3 perovskite at low temperature is consistent with its cluster-glass magnetic state originating from the self-organized phase separation. Slow relaxation of zero-field-cooled magnetization has been experimentally revealed as well. It confirms the cluster glass magnetic state of the compound.

We have shown that the conically shaped electric field created in electrooptic crystals can lead to appearance of orbital angular momentum in the outgoing light beam and generating of optical vortex. It is verified experimentally on Bi12GeO20 crystals.

Non-linear optical properties of weakly confined CdTe nanocrystals in a glass matrix were studied by electro-modulation spectroscopy. Copper electrodes of about 10 nm thick were deposited on both sides of glass samples of thickness 0.8 mm by physical vapor deposition. Optical transmission spectra of the samples were recorded under dc high voltage applied to the electrodes. The absorption band is observed to broaden. This is most likely caused by state filling.

Absorption, emission spectra under UV and X-ray excitations, as well as luminescence decay kinetics of GGG:Bi single crystalline films were studied. The emission spectra observed in the spectral region 350–700 nm at room temperature consist two elementary bands peaked at 446 and 521 nm. The influence of growth conditions on the optical-luminescent properties of GGG: Bi3+ garnet have been revealed. The ratio of the bands intensities in luminescence spectra under different types of excitation and their temperature dependencies were determined.

The dependencies of ionic oxygen conductivity of 10Sc1CeSZ electrolytes made of different zirconia powders those differ by their impurities and production technologies, and sintered in air at different temperatures after uniaxial pressing are analyzed in terms of their Arrhenius equations in 400–900°C temperature range. Deviation from a typical linear dependence of conductivity on temperature that is the most clearly visible in the electrolyte made of the purest powder is observed as a kink on the temperature dependency. A position of the kink point is determined by powder properties and is practically independent on temperature of powder sintering.

The high optical quality glasses with CaB4O7:Tb, LiCaBO3:Tb, CaB4O7:Dy, and LiCaBO3:Dy compositions containing 0.5 and 1.0 mol. % Tb2O3 and Dy2O3 have been obtained. By electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and optical spectroscopy it was shown that the Tb and Dy impurities are incorporated in the CaB4O7 and LiCaBO3 glass network as Tb3+ (4f8, 7F6) and Dy3+ (4f9, 6H15/2) ions, exclusively. All observed f - f transitions of Tb3+ and Dy3+ centres in optical absorption, luminescence excitation and emission spectra have been identified. Luminescence kinetic shows single exponential decay for Tb3+ and Dy3+ centres in the CaB4O7 and LiCaBO3 glasses. Lifetimes for main emitting levels of Tb3+ and Dy3+ centres in all investigated glasses were determined at T = 300 K. Spectroscopy shows that obtained glasses are promising luminescent materials.

Nd:YAG ceramics were fabricated by solid-state reactive sintering of commercial powders and vacuum sintering of custom made co-precipitated nanopowders. The densities, microstructure, average grain size, residual porosity, optical transmittances of the sintered ceramics were compared. Nd:YAG ceramics produced by solid-state reactive sintering possess higher transmittance compared to vacuum-sintered ceramics from co-precipitated nanopowders, which is however still lower than that of single crystals. The possible ways to improve optical quality of Nd:YAG ceramics are discussed.
