A SPICE subcircuit model for Zener and avalanche diodes which can simulate the operation of these devices over wide ranges of current and temperature, using a single set of parameters and a SPICE.TEMP statement, is described. The model is believed to be compatible with most SPICE-based circuit simulators, since it was designed to run in version 2G.6 of Berkeley SPICE. Although the emulation of a single component with a subcircuit of up to seven components may seem overly complex, in many cases the increased accuracy and ease of use will overshadow the increase in circuit complexity.<>

Effect of trench geometry, cable size and top layer thickness on the heat dissipation in buried cables 沟槽几何形状、电缆尺寸和顶层厚度对埋地电缆散热的影响

The geometrical dimensions of the trench and the type of top layer used for the installation of buried cable are considered. These dimensions include the trench width and depth, cable depth and diameter, and thickness of the top layer. The dimensions, such as the trench width and the cable diameter, are varied to emphasize their effect on the heat dissipation. A simple model using the finite difference technique is used to determine the temperature at each node of the grid, and the Gauss-Siedel iteration method is used to solve the temperature equations. The heat dissipation from buried cables can be increased either by using larger cable diameter or by increasing the width of the trench. The number of grid points has a remarkable influence on the predicted value of heat dissipation. The percentage of the change in the heat dissipation due to the diameter or the trench width remains approximately the same for various grid points. The heat balance analysis shows that the difference between the cable heat dissipation and the heat losses from the grid boundaries is less than 0.3%, and the convective surface at the grid top plays a major role in dissipating the heat produced by the cable by almost 86% for most of the trenches with various widths.<>

Presents a novel analytical technique for evaluating a lightwave network architecture for two different traffic distribution patterns, viz., uniform traffic distributions (UTDs) and zonal traffic distributions (ZTDs). Evaluating an architecture in the context of interest calls for determining the internode distance (IND) distribution, the mean IND (MIND), the topology z-transform, and the penalty per deflection en route to destination for a prespecified version of the network structure. It is shown that the architectural properties of a network are very much dependent on the traffic distribution patterns.<>

Implementation of high-performance and highly efficient computational modules using binary tree structures at the device level 在设备级使用二叉树结构实现高性能和高效率的计算模块

A novel approach to build a full-adder circuit is presented using the modified binary tree. In this approach, the full adder can take only 15 transistors. In the residue-number-system-based digital signal processing architectures, look-up tables are an important computational element. Using the modified binary tree, an efficient row/column decoder is proposed for the look-up table implementation. It is observed that the look-up table based on the conventional approach occupies 26% more area and takes 1.5 ns more access time than the look-up table based on the modified binary tree.<>

A new parallel technique for design of decrement/increment and two's complement circuits 一种设计减/增和二补电路的新型并行技术

A novel design technique for the construction of a decrement/increment and two's complement (DIT) circuit is presented. The technique is shown to be highly efficient of both in terms silicon area consumption and time. More interestingly, it is shown that the operation delay is almost independent of the word size, and hence the method is best used for high-density codes. Structurally, the circuit is made of two parallel paths: one for the input data and one for the generation of the control signal to be utilized for DIT operation through the data path. The circuit is designed and simulated for 64-bit word length using CMOS technology. For the worst-case situation, a 14.7 ns response time is reported.<>

Comparator offsets resulting from charge injection of MOS switches vary over temperature, supply voltage, and process. These variations lead to difficulties in achieving optimum offset voltages. In a three-stage comparator design with current programmable delay times between autozero signals, optimum offset voltages are achieved over a wide range of operating conditions. By forcing a constant voltage swing on the feedback switches, channel charge injection dependence on effective threshold voltage levels leads to uncompensated offset errors.<>

A class of linear phase analog filter approximation based on the Bernstein polynomials is presented. The advantages obtained using this approximation when compared to the Thomson approximation include the fact that the group delay can be varied by varying one of the two parameters available, and in the stopband the magnitude may or may not approach zero as frequency increases. This class of low-pass linear phase transfer functions gives a magnitude which has quasi-maximally flat magnitude. The function has several parameters that allow the function to change the slope in the phase function, the slope in the transition band, the cut-off frequency, and the magnitude value at infinite frequency.<>

It is shown that different factorizations of the even parts of the complex load impedances result in different complex normalized scattering matrices. Relationships between the complex normalized scattering matrix of a network and the unit normalized scattering matrix of its augmented network are given, making it possible to unify many of the existing results.<>

Analysis of truncation errors in asynchronous sampling of periodic signals 周期信号异步采样中的截断误差分析

It is shown that an end correction can greatly reduce the potential truncation error when asynchronous sampling is used to determine the average value of a periodic waveform. Two processing methods with end correction are considered, and the method employing a modified trapezoidal approach is shown to give the best results.<>
