We demonstrate 128-SP-QAM experimentally for the first time and compare the performance to PM-16QAM at the same symbol rate (10.5 Gbaud). We find a 1.7 dB increased sensitivity and 50% increased transmission reach over PM-16QAM.

A scalable flow protection mechanism enabling fast resilience in OpenFlow-based ring networks is proposed without involving the controller. Experimental tests demonstrate that the achieved recovery time depends only on the time required for physical detection.

A Stokes vector based non-data-aided DGD monitoring scheme for 40-Gb/s polarization-multiplexed coherent optical OFDM systems with low-bandwidth sampling is reported. The DGD estimation error is less than 2.5 ps after 1000-km long-haul transmissions.

We developed a 22-Gbit/s × 16-ch WDM receiver based on a Si-Ge-silica monolithic photonic integration technology, in which a 16-ch SiOx AWG with 1.6-nm channel separation and Ge photodiodes are monolithically integrated. The AWG-PD device exhibited fiber-to-PD resoponsivity of 0.29 A/W and inter-channel crosstalk of less than 20 dB, and successfully received 22 Gbit/s signal for all 16 channels. In addition, we demonstrated 40-km transmission of 12.5 Gbit/s signal and obtained sensitivity of -6.8 dBm at BER of 10-9 without transimpedance amplifiers.

We report experimental results comparing two-types-of terabit Nyquist-pulse-shaped superchannel transmissions. A 50-subcarrier low-baud-rate system with potential of significant DSP simplification has shown similar transmission performance compared with a 10-subcarrier high-baud-rate system.

We propose and demonstrate an all-optical scheme of phase noise reduction using optical nonlinearity and dispersion/conversion delay. This scheme is capable of reducing the standard deviation of phase noise with low frequency component (e.g., laser phase noise) by a factor of ~ 4 without degrading the data signal. The EVM can be reduced from 31% to 11% for ~500 MHz phase noise bandwidth on 20-Gbaud QPSK input.
