The proliferation of smart devices and portable, wireless, wearable technology has exploded in the last decade. With the advent of social media and the internet of things, these devices have now intertwined themselves with consumers on a daily basis such that people are connected more with their device than ever before. With the simultaneous miniaturization of these devices, consumers are more apt to subject them to unintended water perils. Methods and apparatuses are described herein to remove water completely from electronic devices in a fast yet convenient manner.

Wearable electronic products measure activity information, it is helpful to improve quality of healthy living. For example, Microsoft band measures heart rate, step, walking distance, and sleep status. However, in some situations wearable devices make people feel uncomfortable, such as elder with dementia. This paper we propose a scheme to estimate sleep status via ambient sensor, i.e., motion sensor, instead of wearable device. The experimental environment deploys motion sensors. Furthermore, participant wears intelligent band in order to collect data of sleep status. We perform training process to sensing data, and desired output in training process is data of sleep status acquired from intelligent band. The experiment results demonstrate that our scheme achieves accuracies of 50% ~ 75% in sleep status estimation via motion sensor.

This paper proposes a coordinate system in which a point (x, y) is represented as (X, Y, Z, W), where x = X/Z and y = Y/W are satisfied. In the proposed coordinate system, the cost of scalar multiplication, which is the dominant operation of elliptic curve cryptosystems, on the twisted Edwards curve ±x2 + y2 = 1 + dx2y2 is the same as the existing lowest cost in a mixed coordinate system, and implementation of scalar multiplication becomes easier.

The Bluetooth wireless communication technology which is widely used for short-range communications. It operates on 2.4GHz ISM band. In addition, Bluetooth and IEEE 802.11(Wi-Fi) devices are possible and likely to occur on the specific channel in the same location. Bluetooth devices adopt frequency hopping scheme to prevent the likelihood of mutual interferences. Although the frequency hopping can reduce some interferences, as the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices are coexisted in the neighborhood, the performances of both networks will be degraded likely. Because they operate on the same band and can't communicate with each other. An interference aware approach for improving the throughput of a given piconet is presented in this paper. An interference aware piconet restructuring mechanism, called IAPR, is proposed. The proposed models are based on role switch operation. The analytical results show that the proposed IAPR approach further improves the network performance between the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices and improves the throughput of Bluetooth radio networks.

To assist Java programming educations, we have developed a Web-based Java Programming Learning Assistant System (JPLAS). JPLAS provides fill-in-blank problems to let students study the grammar and the code structure for Java by filling blank elements in a high-quality code that are composed of reserved words, identifiers, and control symbols. However, students can answer the problems only when connected with the Internet, which limits the time and place for them to use JPLAS. In this paper, we implement the offline answering function for fill-in-blank problems in JPLAS. To avoid cheating by students, we adopt the hash function and the message authentication technique. We confirm the effectiveness of our proposal through applications to the Java programming course in our department.

In this paper, the design of matrix Riesz fractional order differentiator (FOD) using discrete sine transform (DST) is presented. First, the matrix Riesz FOD design problem is described. Then, the transfer matrix of the matrix Riesz FOD is obtained by using DST. Next, the designed matrix Riesz FOD is applied to develop an image sharpening algorithm. Finally, an example is presented to show the usefulness of the proposed DST-based matrix Riesz FOD method.

Let p be an odd prime number as the characteristic of finite field, this paper introduces a pseudo random binary sequence generated by a primitive polynomial of degree 2 over Fp, trace function, and Legendre symbol. Then, its period and autocorrelation are introduced with a small example.

Campus bus service has been introduced in hope to ease students and campus community to move around, but the service has been unreliable. More importantly, the position of the bus at a given time cannot be tracked, making it even more challenging to estimate the time of arrival. In this work, a low-cost campus bus tracker is proposed by selectively using WiFi proximity technique and GPS information, where three modes of data communication methods are considered. A website is constructed to display the current position of the bus of interest, while an Android application is developed for bus driver to send his current location data at a regular interval. Experiments were conducted to verify the viability of the proposed tracker in University of Malaya campus, where the hybrid approach was found to be feasible.
