Simulation of all-optical NOR gate using single quantum-dot SOA and optical filter 基于单量子点SOA和光滤波器的全光NOR门仿真

We propose an ultrafast all optical NOR gate for 160 Gb/s return-to-zero Gaussian data signals using a single quantum-dot semiconductor optical amplifier (QD-SOA) and optical filter (OF). By conducting numerical simulations, we investigate and evaluate the impacts of probe wavelength and power of the involved signals on the extinction ratio (ER) and Q2-factor. Results show that the proposed NOR gate can be achieved both with logical correctness and high quality when the specified conditions are satisfied.

We demonstrate a fiber specklegram sensor based on the twist-induced effect in tilted two-mode fiber Bragg gratings (TM-FBGs). The measured LP21 mode specklegram rotates 4.73 (radm−1) with twist in the tilted TM-FBGs.

Long period grating with a grating period of 15 μm is fabricated with a femtosecond laser. Such a small period grating enables coupling of fundamental core mode with high order cladding modes that have effective refractive index close to water, and exhibits an enhanced sensitivity in low refractive index region.

We describe the fabrication and a demonstration of passive and active photonic crystal nanocavity devices, namely an electro-optic modulator, an all-silicon photodetector and a DeMUX filter. This is the first demonstration of active and passive photonic crystal nanocavity devices fabricated with a photolithographic process that may lead to future mass production.

We generate a passively nanosecond Q-switching by inserting a Brewster fiber grating which induces the nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) effect. In our experiment, Q-switched pulses with pulse width of 502 ns, repetition rate of 207.5 kHz, output power of 12.7 mW and single pulse energy of 61.2 nJ are achieved under the pump power of 450 mW.

We demonstrate a continuous tunable mode locked Erbium fiber laser using a tilted fiber grating based birefringent filter and carbon nanotube based saturable absorber. The central wavelength can be tuned from 1558 nm to 1564 nm while maintaining ultrashort pulse emission.

System setup consideration for range gated imaging 距离门控成像的系统设置考虑

Despite the advances made in laser and sensor technology, setting up an accurate range gated imaging system remains a challenge. In this paper, we emphasise on the importance of system setup and its impacts to the performance of three-dimensional (3D) range gated reconstruction. Study is performed to analyse some of the system setup criteria and parameters involved in the laser and camera synchronisation, images acquisition and reconstruction, and illumination setup. It is hoped that the presented findings establish better understanding of the setup influences in range gated reconstruction and contribute to optimise the system performance.

Broadband slow-light enhancement of nonlinear effects with plasmonic structures 等离子体结构非线性效应的宽带慢光增强

An upper limit of achievable nonlinearities in term of the maximum nonlinear index change Awmax exists for any Kerr nonlinear material, because of optical damage, saturation, or high-order effects. Taking advantage of slow-light effects, a photonic-crystal waveguide can enhance nonlinear effects and achieve more effective nonlinearities than the bulk material, i.e., Δneff > Δwmax. However, this slow-light enhancement relies on a structural resonance and is thus narrowband. Here we report broadband slow-light enhancement of nonlinear effects using plasmonic metal-dielectric-metal (MDM) waveguides. We show that MDMs structure with a thin nonlinear dielectric layer can have strikingly large effective nonlinearity, more than ten times that of the material nonlinearity, over a large bandwidth. This is because MDM structures are uniquely capable of combining broadband slow-light effects and efficient use of the nonlinear material. We expect this work to advance the development of high performance Kerr nonlinear nanophotonic devices.

We experimentally demonstrate a compact silicon contradirectional coupler with high sidelobe suppression by using apodized subwavelength grating waveguide. A suppression ratio of higher than 20 dB is achieved with a ∼100-pm coupling length.

Differential-pressured argon-filled negative curvature hollow-core fiber (NC-HCF) with an anomalous dispersion in the mid-infrared was studied for pulse compression. Preliminary simulation results show compression of 2-micron, 1.8-ps, 50 μJ pulse to 110 fs by using a negative-pressure-gradient argon-filled 8.2 m-long NC-HCF at a maximum pressure of 2.65 bar.
