Purposes: Evaluate the quality of life and the associated factors in people living with HIV. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach and random sample selection, carried out in two Specialized Assistance Services, with 356 people living with HIV. The comparison between the domain scores was performed using the student t test, ANOVA and Pearson’s correlation. Multiple linear regression was used to assess the contribution of variables to the outcome quality of life using the stepwise method. Results: The domains that showed the best results in averages were Psychological (17.0), Social Relations (14.9) and Level of Independence (14.0). The domain that had the greatest determination was the Psychological (R² = 0.49), followed by Social Relations (R² = 0.434), the lowest determination was the Spirituality domain (R² = 0.270). No domain had a score considered high. Conclusion: The quality of life presented unsatisfactory results, especially in the Physical, Environment and Spirituality domains. The need to formulate strategies aimed at coping with HIV and increasing the quality of life of people living with HIV is evident.

Background The aim of this study was to analyze the extent and uniqueness of anatomical variations of the sternum bone, to assess its applicability for forensic analysis, especially for individual human identification. Methods and Findings Evaluations involved 501 computer tomography scans performed at the Medical Radiology Center, Manaus city, Amazonas, Brazil, and 427 skeletons belonging to the Collection of Identified Human Skeletons of the Center for Studies in Forensic Anthropology (CEAF), of the University of Pernambuco (UPE), Pernambuco, Brazil. Forms of morphological variations were evaluated, including the presence of foramina, fissures, and incomplete total or partial fusions, as well as forms of xiphoid process termination, and the presence of surgical sutures. Overall, summing computed tomographic images and skeletons, the sternal foramen was present in some 23% of samples, with a greater proportion in males (14%), while in females the frequency was 8.6%. Conclusions The qualitative analysis of the sternum bone is simple to apply and represents an important potential source of information in a human identification process.

Psammomatoid Juvenile Ossifying Fibroma is an uncommon fibro-osseous neoplasm of aggressive but benign nature found in the younger age. Its aggressive path can lead to facial deformation, eye proptosis, and development of intracranial extensions leading to various neurological symptoms. A systematic review based by the MOOSE guideline in Medline, EMBASE and Lilacs, resulted in 23 reported cases of intracranial extended PJOF. Hence, we found it relevant to present a case report of a 15-year-old male with facial deformation and left eye proptosis absent of visual disturbances with PJOF. The lesion was present in the left anterior base of the skull and extended to the intra-orbital space and over the zygomatic arch. The diagnosis was only confirmed as PJOF by histopathological analysis of the completely resected lesion. Follow up visits documented unremarkable regression of the facial deformity and post-op images showed a completely resected lesion. Our case raises the need to be aware of this rare tumor that can be confused with a meningioma or other intracranial tumors.

Objectives: To assess an in situ simulation-based cardiopulmonary resuscitation training strategy, with emphasis on debriefing and follow-up assessment of knowledge after training. Method: This was an educational intervention study to measure intraparticipant variability. The simulation-based teaching techniques consisted of nine steps. This research followed STROBE recommendations for the methodological development of observational studies. Results: Significant differences (p < 0.05) were observed between the pre-test and post-theory assessments, and between the pre-practical phase and 60 days post-training. However, no differences were observed (p<0.05) between the post-theory and post-practical phases, showing that after participating in the training strategy, after the pre-test assessment, the participants seemed to have carried over the knowledge displayed in the post-theory to the post-practical time, with considerable reduction in performance 60 days after the training program. Conclusion: Theoretical emphasis coupled with simulation practice displayed the best results in performance when compared to theoretical training alone, even at 60 days post-training.

Background: Tissue remodeling requires protein degradation through a process directly dependent on metalloproteinases enzymes capable of degrading the majority of proteins in this system. This process is regulated by some enzyme inhibitors, and balance between enzyme and inhibitor activity is fundamental to tissue integrity and health. Bone resorption and formation, and the molecules involved in these processes, raise questions on possible differences in tissue behavior in the system. Histological studies of tissues surrounding teeth that have been subjected to such forces show the presence of tension (associated with bone formation) and compression, which induce bone resorption. The duration of load application is an important parameter in osteoclastogenesis. The present study aimed to analyze the biological aspects associated with in vitro compression of the PL and alveolar bone. To this end, we reviewed articles describing the biological events that occur in the PL and alveolar bone during load application on this system and the possible influence of culture medium on the expression of molecules involved in response to such an event.

Background: Trochanteric fractures are extra-joint fractures, account for 55% of femoral proximal fractures. They often happen in the elderly with increased frequency due to age. Treatment experiences at 7A Military Hospital (Ho Chi Minh city, Viet Nam) showed increased trochanteric fracture cases. To accurately assess treatment effectiveness and select proper treatment methods, the study of evaluation of initial treatment of trochanteric fractures using gamma nails and made the conclusions of indications and applied techniques was carried out.
