Purpose: High levels of antenatal anxiety may be an important predictor of postnatal anxiety and mood disorders, while co-morbidity of depression and anxiety disorders is common and this has also been shown to occur antenatally. Comorbidities, if depression and anxiety appear they are less prevalent postpartum than prenatal. However, few studies have followed the trajectory of anxiety symptoms perinatally to parenthood, later infancy and childhood. Methods: This paper is part of a wider research project that implemented psychosocial assessment, including depression screening in one private hospital in New South Wales, Australia. It explores and analyses the anxiety subset questions 3A from the Edinburgh Perinatal Depression Scale. Results: Two hundred and fifty-five women were screened antenatally and 209 postnatally. Forty-six women were lost to follow-up for various reasons, e.g. refusal or uncontactable. Fifteen percent of women scored 5 (38) or above on the anxiety subset questions at their antenatal booking-in visit, with a mean score of 2.4275. Twenty-four women (12.7%) scored 5 or higher on the anxiety subset questions postnatally, suggesting a higher rate of anxiety symptoms antenatally Conclusions: There was a higher rate of anxiety symptoms antenatally, suggesting that anxiety requires assessment antenatally.

Psycho-Social Predictors of Peripartum Depression among Nigerian Women

Although research evidence indicates that there are psycho-social factors that contributes to mental health in diverse populations, Impact of these psycho-social factors in developing peripartum depression has been given little research attention in Nigeria. The present study examined Psychosocial predictors of peripartum depression among Nigerian women. Participants were 350 neonates mothers drawn from health facilities in eastern Nigeria using a purposive sampling technique. Data was collected by means of self-report measures translated into the local dialect of the neonate mothers. Multiple regression results showed that marital status was a significant and negative predictor of peri-partum depression. Employment status, mode of delivery, social support, nature of pregnancy and pregnancy complications were significant and positive predictors of peripartum depression among pregnant women. Psycho-social based differential in developing peripartum depression should be addressed by researchers and healthcare practitioners.

At the annual congresses of the European Association of Urology (EAU) and the International Continence Society (ICS) many clinicians and scientists present their recent research work. Before an abstract is published in a journal, it is preferred to present it at scientific meetings [1]. The quality and value of these annual scientific meetings can be measured by the publication rates of abstract presentations [2]. The aim of the present study was to find out what proportion of all abstracts on functional urology published at the EAU and ICS were published as full papers. In addition, we analyzed the differences between functional urology related abstracts presented EAU and ICS. Moreover, by using a self-designed discrepancy score we intended to find out whether the actual concluding messages of presented abstracts would differ from the final publication.
