According to the latest report from the World Health Organization and the Pan American Health Organization, COVID-19 currently presents a morbidity of 29.6 % and constituted 43.6 % of deaths worldwide. Although mortality rates have decreased considerably, many cases of patients with post-COVID sequelae have been reported around the world; in fact, more than 87 % of patients continue to experience at least one symptom two months after the onset of infection. The objective of the present review is to describe myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome as a Complication of the post-acute syndrome of COVID-19 in Adults. Cases of survivors of COVID-19 have been reported who report the presence of sequelae, persisting for several months after being discharged. Data from post-acute COVID-19 patient reports and early observational studies suggest a syndrome similar to myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome, a chronic, multisystem disease that has been associated with other infections. Within the general population, the prevalence of chronic fatigue ranges between 10 and 40 %, while the ME/CFS association constitutes 0.17-0.89 % and is more common in females.

Dementia is characterized by the presence of progressive cognitive and behavioral symptoms which affect normal functioning. With the purpose of determining if there are any changes related to patients’ religiosity due to dementia, we developed a questionnaire aiming to evaluate changes pre and post diagnostic. In effect, we observed that patients with dementia might experience a reduction of the importance given to religion and its associated practices with the disease progression. However, God’s belief did not show any changes despite the diagnosis. Therefore, we point out the relevance of incorporating religiosity as another aspect to take into account in the cognitive rehabilitation treatments.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic left healthcare workers physically and mentally exhausted. Studies demonstrated the increase in psychological and psychiatric pathologies with the pandemic. In this work, the impact of vaccinationagainst COVID-19 on the emotional manifestations and psychological symptoms of workers at a general acute care hospital in the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina was measured.

Methods: A descriptive, observational, transversal study and analytical survey was developed in order to assess the impact of vaccination against COVID-19 on hospital workers' emotional demonstrations and psychological symptoms. An inquiry to the hospital personnel, who had received at least one dose of vaccine against COVID-19, was disseminated to know more details about self-perceived psychological symptoms and emotions, and safety to carry their work out, before and after vaccination.

Results: 302 responses were obtained; 214 (70%) of those surveyed presented some psychological symptom, mainly anxiety (153-50,6%%), anguish (141-46,7%) and sleep disturbances (132-43,7%). The incidence of all decreased after vaccination and 22,1% (67) reported disappearance of some of those symptoms after it. The feelings of calm and security increased by 8% and 2,6% respectively. In 75% (229) vaccination increased the feeling of security at work.

Conclusions: Our study shows how vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 reduced the psychological symptoms presented as a result of the pandemic and increased the feeling of job security.

Physicians have privileged information regarding the importance of leading a healthy and drug-free lifestyle, but in everyday reality, they are subject to extreme stressors (work stress, compassion fatigue, burnout syndrome) that have a profound emotional impact. As a result, it is not uncommon for physicians to present substance use disorders and dependencies. Recently, greater attention has been paid to specific factors that may lead to substance use disorder. Despite these efforts, there is a lack of prevention policies and substance use disorders are excluded in the list of occupationaldiseases. The idiosyncrasies of the tasks and particularities of the behavior of health care workers create a major challenge for the design of effective and safe programs for the health care professional with addictions and their patients. The objective of this work is to carry out an analytical review of the existing literature related to the implementation of specific treatments for health professionals to address SUD. After a tour of the mental health programsin place for health workers in different regions of the world and local resources, a discussion of current information on mental health disorders, as well as prevention and occupational health policies, is presented. In this population, the challenges that must be faced in our reality to create a specific treatment for this population are summarized.

Introduction: The arterial hypertension cause brain vascular damage (white matter lesion) and the burden and progression determine their cognitive consequences. Therefore, arterial hypertension is considered the main modifiable vascular risk factor for cognitive impairment and dementia. Therefore, the aim of the current study was to evaluate the results of cognitive tests in a sample of hypertensive patients and to establish possible associations with structural brain lesions (atrophy, white matter lesions) identified by magnetic resonance imaging

Methods: Were included 70 hypertensive patients from Heart-Brain study in Argentina with magnetic resonance imaging and cognitive test. Fazekas scale and the Global Cortical Atrophy were used to quantify the white matter lesions and the brain atrophy, respectively. The Mini-Mental Status Examination, Clock Drawing test and Mini-Boston Naming test were used to evaluate the cognitive status.

Results: average age 69.7 ± 10.6 years, 55.7% female). Based on the linear regression analysis, Fazekas scale and cognitive tests were inversely associated. For each grade of increase in Fazekas scale, the clock drawing test (Coef -0.56, CI 95% -1.01 -0.10, p=0.01) and the Mini-mental Status Examination (Coef -0.7, CI 95% -1.27 -0.13, p=0.01) scores decreased. The subcortical atrophy was significantly associated with the clock drawing test (OR 3.29, CI 95% 1.25-8.63; p=0.016). Conclusion: The cognitive tests, particularly the clock drawing test could be used (in the clinical routine practice) as “subrrogate” of the brain structural hypertension-mediated damage.

Introducción: : Resultados: Conclusiones:

Introduction: Exile generates the fracture of the vital project and a high load of stress, which can induce the appearance of mental health disorders and health in general. The impact is subject to various demographic variables.

Objective: The objective of this article is to present the product of a review of the impacts od exile on mental health based on age, gender and the most important risk and protection factors. Finally, reference is made to the most relevant approaches from the perspective of mental health

Methodology: A search was carried out in various databases of academic literature between the period 2000-2019 using terms in Spanish, English and Portuguese in relation to the impacts of exile on the mental health of women, minor and older adults. The saturation criterion was used.

Results: Although exile itself does not necessarily result in mental illness, the greatest risk is associated with armed conflicts; in women, the absence of an affective partner and the confluence of care roles; in older adults, loneliness, illness and poverty and in all ages and genders, being a victim of hostility or discrimination in the host society. As protective factors, younger age; family and social network; favorable economic conditions, higher level of educations, integration into social groups with cultural and linguistic affinity in the country of arrival.

Conclusions: There is no single therapeutic approach. It´s important to highlight relevance of a comprehensive and cross-cultural perspective and the need for specific public policies.

Finally, reference is made to the most relevant approaches from the perspective of mental health</p><p><strong>Methodology: </strong>A search was carried out in various databases of academic literature between the period 2000-2019 using terms in Spanish, English and Portuguese in relation to the impacts of exile on the mental health of women, minor and older adults. The saturation criterion was used.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Although exile itself does not necessarily result in mental illness, the greatest risk is associated with armed conflicts; in women, the absence of an affective partner and the confluence of care roles; in older adults, loneliness, illness and poverty and in all ages and genders, being a victim of hostility or discrimination in the host society. As protective factors, younger age; family and social network; favorable economic conditions, higher level of educations, integration into social groups with cultural and linguistic affinity in the country of arrival.</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>There is no single therapeutic approach. It´s important to highlight relevance of a comprehensive and cross-cultural perspective and the need for specific public policies.</p>","PeriodicalId":75297,"journal":{"name":"Vertex (Buenos Aires, Argentina)","volume":"34 162","pages":"98-105"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139405612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
