Smoking is one of the risk factors for non-communicable diseases. Smoking worsens a person's health and can even cause death. This smoking behaviour is primarily initiated in adolescence. The aim of this study was to identify the determinants of youths' smoking behaviour. The design of this study is cross-sectional, with a sample size of 368 youths (aged 15 to 24 years) in Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The sampling technique used is multistage random sampling. The statistical test used is logistic regression. This study showed that 67.9% of the sample were smokers. The results of the logistic regression test show that gender, occupational, attitudes and the role of peers have a significant effect on the smoking behaviour of youths. From our findings, gender is the most influential variable, in terms of having the highest odds ratio, on youth smoking behaviour.

Public Health Center hereinafter referred to as the Puskesmas is a health service facility that organizes public health efforts and first-level individual health efforts by prioritizing promotive and preventive efforts in their work areas. If the results of the examination cannot be handled promotively and preventively, they will be referred to more complete health facilities such as hospitals. Standard action in Puskesmas is still high and often ignored, this is very dangerous if left unchecked it will have an impact on the safety and health of health workers, patients, and patients' families. The objective of this study is to analyze the correlation of personal factors with the unsafe actions of health workers in nine Puskesmas in Kediri City, Indonesia. The population for this study was health workers including nurses, midwives, laboratories, and cleaners, totaling 410. This study is analytical with a cross-sectional design, While statistical analysis consists of univariate, bivariate, and logistic regression. The results show a correlation between fatigue and unsafe actions of health workers Ignoring safety procedures, the knowledge of health workers, and unsafe actions of health workers Ignoring safety procedures, and not using personal protective equipment. There is a correlation between personal factors (knowledge, fatigue) and unsafe actions and strong correlation. The results of the analysis using logistic regression produced a significance value of 0.000, which means that there is an influence of the knowledge and fatigue variables on unsafe acts. It is recommended that a safety talk in the mornings on a regular basis would increase health vigilance at work.

Early marriage is a severe public health problem issue. This study aimed to analyze the knowledge and attitudes of female adolescents regarding early marriage. A cross-sectional design was used and included 245 female adolescents. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire. Multivariable logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship between knowledge and attitudes regarding early marriage. Most of the respondents disagree with early marriage. Female adolescents with good knowledge were 0.51 times more likely to disagree with early marriage than those with less knowledge. Female adolescents with higher mothers' education were 0.66 times more likely to disagree with early marriage than female adolescents with lower mothers' education. Good female adolescents' knowledge and mother's education support female adolescents' disapproval of early marriage. We conclude that the better the understanding of female adolescents about early marriage, the less they agree with early marriage.

Unsafe pregnancy termination contributes to morbidity and mortality among women globally. Despite Botswana's restrictive abortion laws, women continue to use unsafe abortion methods. This study aimed to explore factors that contributes to unsafe termination of pregnancies in Ngami sub-district, Botswana. A qualitative descriptive and exploratory research approach, using a phenomenological design, was applied. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with women admitted to the gynecological ward from June to August 2021. Data saturation was reached with the 12th participant. Data was analyzed thematically. The study revealed two major themes: factors contributing to unsafe abortions, and interventions to reduce unsafe abortions. The study underscores the global issue of unsafe abortion that leads to high morbidity and mortality, and long-term complications. An overall recommendation is for Botswana to reconsider its abortion law and aim to prevent unsafe abortions and reduce healthcare cost.

Eating habits are formed from an early age through experiences gained from contact with food and observation of the environment. This research aims to determine mothers' views regarding toddlers' picky eating behavior. Because there is very little research on this, it is necessary to understand mothers' perspectives in making decisions about dealing with picky eating behavior in toddlers. A systematic search of relevant databases was conducted based on four electronic databases (Scopus, ScienceDirect, Pubmed, and Springer Link) using predefined search terms in the preceding 10 years. A total of 361 articles were obtained from the data sources, while 41 studies met the study criteria. Articles were included if they were of good quality and focused primarily on family parenting, maternal perspectives, feeding practices, and the impact of picky eating. The results of this review show the influence of parents' food serving practices and children's eating habits. Mothers who have bad eating habits tend to have picky eater children.

Lifestyle changes have significant impact on the pattern of sleep-in pregnant women. Irregular sleep patterns in pregnant women can lead to anaemia and disturbances in the formation of growth hormones, hence, causing interference in the progress and maturation of children, which includes increased potentials for stunted growth. This literature review aims to discuss the influence of the sleep quality of pregnant women on the incidence of stunting of newborns. The methodology in this study techniques is the result of a comprehensive literature review. The data for this study was obtained from three databases, namely Scopus, Google Scholar, and media articles, using specific criteria for inclusion and exclusion. The major findings suggest that pregnant women with suboptimal sleep quality leading to disruptions in haemoglobin and anaemia. This is attributable to a lack of Non-Rapid Eyes Movement (NREM) sleep phase, where the growth hormone is produced. We conclude that the quality of sleep-in pregnant women influences the incidence of stunting in children.

Childhood stunting remains a global health issue with significant consequences for the growth, long-term health, and development of childre, Poor nutrition is a well-established contributor to childhood stunting. This study aims to investigate the potential of utilizing biscuits as a nutritional intervention to improve the child's stunting condition. This systematic review was consisted of a literature search in several databases: Scopus, Web of Science, mScience Direct, PubMed, and Springer, following the PRISMA methodology. Our search yielded a total of 836 records, while 11 studies were finally included after the screening. The studies revealed critical findings regarding the utilization of biscuits as a carrier in providing essential nutrients. Nevertheless, more well-designed and standardized studies are required to establish clear guidelines for the formulation and implementation of biscuitbased interventions. Policymakers and health practitioners should consider incorporating fortified biscuits into strategies aimed at reducing stunting, especially in regions with a high prevalence of stunting.

Severe disparities in the care of children with Attention Deficit-yperactivity Disorder (ADHD) against the background of financial stability and parental demographic areas are major public health challenges in Indonesia. This study was designed to investigate how parental education influences care pattern of children with ADHD. We carried out interventions in the form of counseling and assistance regarding the care of ADHD children in the family. Of the 70 children included in the study, 33 (47.1%) did not attend mental health appointments and 51 (72.9%) did not receive any treatment at 3 to 6 month follow-up. Logistic regression showed that increasing age and medication problems were associated with fewer follow-ups on mental health appointments (P < 0.05) and less treatment utilization (P < 0.05). The results of this study implicated that the higher the educational background the parent has, the more adequate treatment the ADHD children receive. This is the fact that care patterns are likely dependent on parental education's status. Further study on which factor between financial status and socio-demographic that has higher impact on ADHD children's parents and coping style should be conducted.

Becoming a mother should be an exciting experience in woman's life. No mother should have to endure adverse encounters. while seeking healthcare in any maternal services facility. this is a phenomenon occurring globally. Delivery of these maternal healthcare services has a bearing on the obstetrical outcomes of mothers from preconception until six weeks after delivery. The study aims to understand the experiences of perinatal women regarding maternal healthcare services in the public hospitals of Gauteng province in South Africa. This study followed an exploratory and descriptive qualitative approach using a purposive sampling method. The study was conducted in three selected public hospitals representing different levels of care namely, district, tertiary provincial, and academic in the Gauteng province. A total of forty-six perinatal women were selected to take part in six focus groups. Data were thematically analysed following the six steps given by Braun and Clarke (2013). Three themes emerged as follows: 1) individual 2) interpersonal reasons and 3) impact of poor complaints procedure on maternal healthcare. The study showed that maternity services rendered to perinatal women in the three selected public hospitals are affected by several factors, such as midwives' attitudes, knowledge and skills, professional ethics, communication, and delayed maternal healthcare. These findings demonstrate an urgent need for practice and policy interventions that go beyond just a routine service but quality and organised maternal healthcare services provided in public hospitals, for improved healthcare outcomes at the point of service.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that complications related to pregnancy and childbirth affect approximately 300 million women in developing countries, causing both acute and chronic illnesses. Direct obstetric complications such as hemorrhage, sepsis, hypertensive disorders during pregnancy, obstructed and prolonged labor, and unsafe abortion account for approximately 75% of maternal deaths. This study aimed to assess the perceptions and attitudes towards pregnancy danger signs among women of childbearing age in the Al-Baha Region, Saudi Arabia. A descriptive cross-sectional hospital-based study was conducted using simple random sampling to select 446 pregnant women. After outlining the study's goal and ensuring confidentiality, data were gathered through a pre-tested, well-designed questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Excel and SPSS version 28. The assessment of the study participants about perceptions of pregnancy danger signs revealed that many were aware of signs such as bleeding, abdominal pain, and lack of fetal movement, indicating a comprehensive understanding of potential pregnancy complications. The study participants exhibited good knowledge and relatively positive attitudes towards pregnancy danger signs. However, a significant fraction showed negative attitudes and insufficient knowledge, suggesting room for improvement in maternal health literacy. The study also found a significant relationship between sociodemographic characteristics and knowledge.Most participants had good knowledge and perceptions about pregnancy danger signs, and their attitudes were relatively positive. However, there is a need to increase awareness and improve attitudes towards pregnancy danger signs among women in the Al-Baha Region.

This study aimed to assess the perceptions and attitudes towards pregnancy danger signs among women of childbearing age in the Al-Baha Region, Saudi Arabia. A descriptive cross-sectional hospital-based study was conducted using simple random sampling to select 446 pregnant women. After outlining the study's goal and ensuring confidentiality, data were gathered through a pre-tested, well-designed questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Excel and SPSS version 28. The assessment of the study participants about perceptions of pregnancy danger signs revealed that many were aware of signs such as bleeding, abdominal pain, and lack of fetal movement, indicating a comprehensive understanding of potential pregnancy complications. The study participants exhibited good knowledge and relatively positive attitudes towards pregnancy danger signs. However, a significant fraction showed negative attitudes and insufficient knowledge, suggesting room for improvement in maternal health literacy. The study also found a significant relationship between sociodemographic characteristics and knowledge.Most participants had good knowledge and perceptions about pregnancy danger signs, and their attitudes were relatively positive. However, there is a need to increase awareness and improve attitudes towards pregnancy danger signs among women in the Al-Baha Region.</p>","PeriodicalId":7551,"journal":{"name":"African journal of reproductive health","volume":"28 9","pages":"25-31"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2024-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142370668","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
