This study examines the role of peripheral vision in maintaining postural stability, particularly when central vision is obstructed, using Sensory Organization Testing (SOT) with computer dynamic posturography. Ten participants (5 males, 5 females, aged 21-34 years) were tested under three conditions: full vision, full occlusion, and central vision obstruction allowing only peripheral vision access. Results revealed significantly better balance performance in the peripheral vision condition during somatosensory perturbations (Condition 4), with equilibrium scores higher than in the full vision condition (p = 0.02). Similarly, visual preference (VIS) scores, indicating reliance on visual input, were significantly elevated under peripheral vision conditions (p = 0.03). These findings highlight peripheral vision's critical role in improving postural sway and maintaining balance when central vision is impaired, as seen in conditions such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD). While central vision is vital for daily tasks requiring focused attention, peripheral vision provides crucial environmental cues for balance and stability. This research underscores the need for targeted interventions and balance training programs to mitigate fall risks in individuals with central vision loss. Future studies will explore these effects in populations with visual impairments to enhance clinical relevance and applicability of central vision on balance.

Non-skid socks and external weight are commonly utilized in healthcare and training to improve stability and simulate real-world conditions. However, their combined effects on postural response during perturbation remain unclear. This study examined how non-skid socks and added anterior weight affect latency and amplitude responses during postural perturbations. Ten healthy participants (mean age 24.5 ± 4.38 years) underwent randomized perturbation conditions with and without non-skid socks and 10% body weight applied via weighted vests. Results from two-way ANOVA and mixed-effects models revealed no significant effects of socks, weight, or their interaction on latency (p > 0.05). However, amplitude analysis showed a significant interaction (p < 0.001), indicating that the combination of socks and weight increased postural instability. Specifically, conditions involving non-skid socks and weight resulted in higher amplitudes, suggesting greater deviations of the center of gravity and increased fall risk. Conversely, non-skid socks alone reduced amplitude, enhancing stability compared to barefoot conditions. These findings highlight the nuanced effects of non-skid socks and added weight on balance and stability. While socks alone may improve postural control, their combination with weight appears to elevate instability. Future research should include larger, diverse samples to confirm these findings and guide clinical practice regarding non-skid socks and weighted training protocols.

: Background: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is the major cause of chronic hepatitis B, which can lead to liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. During HBV replication, splicing of viral RNA frequently occurs, and the spliced RNA or DNA has been reported to be related to the development of liver disease. HBV transcription is mainly regulated by core promoter ranging from nucleotide 1613 to 1849 and the A1762T/G1764A mutation, which can increase the viral transcription, is frequently detected in this region. Objective: The study aimed to analyze the effect of the A1762T/G1764A mutation in the core promoter of HBV on viral RNA splicing. Methods: The wild type (WT) and the A1762T/G1764A mutant HBV genome were cloned into the pCDNA3.1 vector, which was then transiently transfected into HepG2 cells. The intracellular HBV DNA and core protein were determined by the Southern blot and the Western blot, respectively. The relative level of HBSD was examined by quantitative PCR using TB green reagent. Results: the A1762T/G1764A mutation could enhance the ability of viral replication, however, had a minor effect on HBSD expression. Conclusion: The double mutation in CP could regulate the viral transcription, but was not involved in the viral RNA splicing.
