Irrigation Intervals and Nano-Silicon Applications Effect on Maize Growth, Yield, Yield Attributes and Chemical Composition of Grains 灌溉间隔和纳米硅应用对玉米生长、产量、产量属性和谷物化学成分的影响

A field trial was carried out on maize ( Zea mays L.) single cross (Pioneer 3080) variety in the Experimental Farm, Faculty of Agriculture, Omar Al-Mukhtar University, Al-Bayda, Libya during 2023 summer season to evaluate the effect of foliar application of five nano-silicon particles (NSP) concentrations, i.e., 1.5, 3, 4, 6 and 9 mg/ l besides the control treatment on maize growth, yield, yield attributes and chemical components of grains under three irrigation intervals (10, 17 and 24 days between irrigations) at the beginning of the second irrigation till harvest. Randomized complete block design in split plot arrangement was used in three replications, where irrigation intervals were randomly assigned to main plots and (NSP) concentrations were randomly distributed in sub-plots. Obtained results demonstrated that increasing interval between irrigations up to 24 days significantly decreased all the studied traits, except shelling percent and harvest index. Conversely, all the studied characters increased with increasing (NSP) concentrations, where (NSP) applications with 6 or 9 mg/ l produced the highest LAI (4.45 and 4.42) tallest plants (218.33 and 221.90 cm), highest shelling percent (80.73 and 81.83 %), high harvest index (41.57 and 43.32 %) and grain nitrogen content (1.52 and 1.60 %), respectively. However, spraying maize plants with 9 mg/ l (NSP) in resulted the heaviest ears (409.63 g), heaviest grain weight/ ear (335.25 g), 100-kernel weight (37.94 g), maximum grain and biological yields (9.09 and 20.98 t/ ha), respectively. On the other hand, irrigation intervals  (NSP) concentrations interaction had significant effects on all studied traits, where spraying maize plants with 6 or 9 mg/ l, generally alleviate the bad effects of increasing irrigation intervals up to 24 days.

An Analytical Study of The Production and Consumption of Some Oil Crops in The Arab Republic of Egypt 阿拉伯埃及共和国部分油料作物的生产和消费分析研究

Egypt suffers from a large food gap in vegetable oils due to the increased demand for them as a result of the continuous increase in population on the one hand, and the decrease in local production Cultivated with oil crops, where it reached by about 28.22 thousand tons during the study period on the other hand, as well as the decrease in the area of agricultural land, It reached about 28.25 thousand acres on average during the period (2001-2020, and the research aims to study the current situation of production and consumption of vegetable oils by identifying the development of the amount of local production of vegetable oils, the amount of pure food, and the size of the oil gap from soybean oils and sunflower oils. The most important results were found to be a decrease in the amount of local oil production by 30.7 thousand tons at an annual rate of 6% of the average total amount of local production of oils by 670 thousand tons. The cultivation of soybeans was also concentrated in the Minya Governorate by 74.6% of the total cultivated area in Egypt. Then Beni Suef Governorate came in second place in terms of soybean crop cultivation with a rate of 10.4%, then Assiut Governorate came in third place with 5% of the total area of the governorates planted with soybeans, and sunflower crop cultivation was concentrated in Nubaria Governorate with a rate of 26.5% of the total cultivated area. In Egypt, then Beheira Governorate comes in second place in terms of sunflower cultivation with a rate of 24.3%, then Fayoum Governorate comes in third place with a rate of 17.2% of the total area of the governorates cultivated with sunflower crops. The amount of pure food made from vegetable oils also increased by 56.49 thousand tons, at a rate of 5.4% of the average total amount of pure food, estimated at about 1114.7 thousand tons. The import of sunflower oil to Egypt from Russia ranked first and represented about 40% of the import values of sunflower oil out of the total. Evaluation of Technological and Antihyperglycemic Effects of Pan Bread Enriched with Okra Pod Waste on Diabetic Male Rats 评估富含秋葵荚废料的煎饼对糖尿病雄性大鼠的工艺和降血糖作用

Vegetable processing waste is considered a cheap source of bioactive substances that are applicable as additives in the processing of some functional foods. So, this study aimed to use okra pod waste with substitution ratios of 5, 10 and 15 % of wheat flour in pan bread manufacture. The physicochemical, rheological and sensory properties of ready-made pan bread were studied. Also, the impact of feeding diabetic rats pan bread containing okra pod waste on some biological parameters and histological variations of pancreas, kidney and liver was evaluated. The obtained results revealed that okra pod waste powder showed a higher content of protein, fat, ash and crude fiber than wheat flour. Antioxidant activity of okra pod waste was 88.74%. In comparison to the control sample made from only wheat flour, the farinograph and extensigraph results of wheat flour combined with okra pod waste indicated a decrease in dough development, degree of softening, elasticity, and extensibility, but an increase in water absorption and stability time. Pan bread containing 15% okra waste had the highest loaves weight (873.33 g), and the lowest specific volume (1.81 cm 3 /g) compared with control bread (810.67 g and 2.28 cm 3 /g, respectively). When the ratio of okra waste powder in pan bread was increased, there was a substantial rise in the content of moisture, fat, protein, fiber, ash and Antioxidant activity. No significant differences were found in all sensory evaluation scores between pan bread containing 5% okra pod waste and the control. Whereas, pan bread containing 15% okra pod waste obtained the lowest scores but it was satisfactory. Feeding diabetic rats on pan bread containing 5, 10 and 15% of okra pod waste led to a significant reduction in glucose, HbA1c rates and increased insulin levels in blood samples. Also, it caused a significant amelioration in the lipid profile, kidney and liver functions, also pancreas, kidney and liver tissue sections of diabetic rats. In conclusion, pan bread containing okra pod waste can improve the glucose level and protection against diabetes diseases and their complications. Future studies are needed to find a new sources of bioactive compounds from food factory waste and use them in the processing of functional food products.
