An unequivocal determination of heroin in simulated street samples is described. Heroin is separated from the active excipients and contaminants by reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography. An infrared spectrum is obtained using semimicro-sampling techniques on the heroin fraction collected. The total analysis time is 50 minutes.

Forensic considerations on the comparison of “serum γ-glutamyltranspeptidase” (“γ-GT”) activity in experimental acute alcoholic intoxication and in alcoholic car drivers who caused road accidents 实验性急性酒精中毒与造成交通事故的酒精驾驶人血清γ-谷氨酰转肽酶(γ-GT)活性比较的法医学考虑

The authors studied blood alcohol levels and serum γ-GT activity in 18 drivers who caused car accidents while intoxicated, and in 20 young volunteer subjects without any hepatic damage, in which an acute alcoholic intoxication was present.

In most of the drivers the serum γ-GT activity was significantly higher than in the volunteers, which strongly suggests a chronic alcoholic intoxication.

In the 20 volunteers, who were occasional drinkers, the serum γ-GT activity did not show pathological values even in a state of heavy intoxication.

According to the authors, the serum γ-GT determination could be made obligatory by law, in order to differentiate between acute or chronic alcoholic intoxication. Should an intoxicated driver be found guilty of an offence, this fact could aggravate the circum-stances. Furthermore serum γ-GT activity determination could be used as an evaluating parameter in granting driving licences.

Establishing the sequence of intersecting ball-point pen strokes 建立圆珠笔笔画相交的顺序

At ball-point pen intersections a narrowing of the second line sometimes occurs. When the effect is sufficiently marked it can be used to determine the order of ink strokes with reasonably high probability of success. Attempts to treat the narrowing statistically using width measurements were not very successful. Another effect involving the casing of the pen dragging along a small amount of ink from a previous ball-point ink line can also provide a convincing determination of the line order.

A rapid, simple, reproducible and relatively inexpensive electrophoretic technique for displaying the structural proteins of hair is described. Hairs from a large number of individuals were examined and a number of distinct differences are presented.

The possibility of using these individual differences as a means of individual identification is discussed.
