Background: In Peru, there have been no studies on the knowledge of medical students about type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) which is relevant to ensure adequate preparation to address one of the pathologies with the highest burden of disease in this country. Methods: Analytical cross-sectional study conducted in students in the last two years of medical school. A virtual survey was conducted using a previously validated questionnaire to find the general knowledge level of DM2. In addition, factors associated with the knowledge level were explored using appropriate hypothesis tests. Results: A total of 127 participants were included, 58 externships and 69 internships. The mean knowledge of DM2 was 67.14% in general and was the same in internships and externships. An association was found between knowledge and living with a person with DM (Coef=1.01 and p=0.015). Conclusions: The average in the questionnaire on knowledge of DM2 is slightly higher than the average found in other studies with questionnaires like the present study. A higher level of knowledge would be associated with living with a person with diabetes mellitus.

Acutely Disturbed Intestinal Blood Flow in a 71-Year-Old Patient with Abstract We present a case report describing both pulmonary embolism and acute mesenteric ischemia as a compli-cation of COVID-19 infection, the later despite adequate anticoagulation as per guidelines. Coagulation disorders in the context of SARS-CoV-2 infection can lead to thromboembolic complications in patients such as cerebrovascular events (cerebral infarction), myocardial infarction, arterial occlusion of the lower extremities, splanchnic vein thrombosis, portomesenteric vein thrombosis and mesenteric ischemia. SARS-CoV-2 causes a hypercoagulable and prothrombotic state or vasculitis in patients as previously described. Mesenteric ischemia is a serious, life-threatening disease and can significantly increase mortality in COVID-19 patients.

the Uncontrollable! Citizens’ Attitudes Towards the COVID-19 Vaccination Program – A Qualitative Case Study Employing the Lens of Bourdieu’s Practice Theory. Archives Medicine Abstract Background: Vaccination is an effective choice to stop the COVID-19 pandemic. Vaccine hesitancy may, however, be a threat to global health. What is structuring and at stake regarding citizens’ attitudes towards COVID-19 vaccination in a society is not yet well understood. The aim was therefore to assess how the attitudes and beliefs of Danish citizens regarding the offer of a COVID-19 vaccine are expressed to make us wiser as to why people have the attitudes towards the vaccination program that they have. Methods: The Denmark and with different sociodemographic backgrounds. Data were collected through individual interviews and analyzed and interpreted through the lens of Bourdieu’s practice theory; the focus being especially on structures, habitus and capital within a health field. Findings: The findings highlight structures that regulate vaccination attitudes in the individual in which perceptions of being included or excluded in the logic of the state are particularly relevant. The individual’s usual social network seemed to have less structuring importance for their attitudes for or against COVID-19 vaccination. Participants’ health habitus was challenged by COVID-19 vaccination, and it had an impact on their attitudes whether they considered health, illness, and body as an individual or collective responsibility. The collection of health capital and positioning in relation to COVID-19 vaccination attitudes was essential, for which, however, unequal dispositions and conditions for the acquisition of knowledge were decisive. Conclusions: A belief in vaccination as a way out of the pandemic is seen in citizens who share the basic truth of the state, while holding attitudes against vaccination excludes individuals from community and society. Vaccination is for some citizens of no meaning, and they perceive receiving a vaccination as being made sick, while others highlight a collective responsibility to get vaccinated. Those who have the relevant capital, in the form of expert opinions and knowledge from highly educated people in their close social network, receive support from a collective capital, while other citizens might lack the right to express and act in relation to different approaches to knowledge.

Objectives: Despite wide use of PRO tools in clinical development, resulting data is rarely incorporated into the US label. This study reviewed oncology product labels approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) between 2006 and 2020 to determine if the number of PRO included in labeling has meaningfully changed. Sponsors were assessed to identify demographic trends in achieving PRO label success.

Methods: FDA-approved drugs were searched utilizing the Drugs@FDA database by month from January 2015 to December 2020 for novel drug and biologic approvals. Products approved between 2006-2014 were identified utilizing the Gnansakthy et al., 2012 and 2016 publications. Labels were reviewed for inclusion of PRO data in the label and product summary basis of approval (SBA). Sponsor size and experience were measured for each year of product approval.

Results: 155 oncology products received initial approval between 2006-2020, of which only 7 contained PRO data in the label. More than half (53.5%) of products had PRO data described in the SBA. Over time, PRO information has increasingly been included in the product marketing application. Sponsors utilizing PRO data tend to be experienced in oncology development and larger in size.

Conclusions: There has been a small increase in inclusion of PRO data in oncology product labeling over the past 15 years. Utilization and analysis of appropriate PRO tools and data remains a challenge to sponsors. Further collaboration with FDA is needed for the development of disease specific PRO tools that provide meaningful data to the targeted patient population.

The purpose of this document is to provide a unique white paper on the use of different anesthetic drugs within primary care clinics and the key clinical pearls for ensuring patient safety in this setting. This paper is designed to be a convenient guide that can be placed in work rooms for residents and medical school trainees to improve their learning and to provide reminders about drug-drug interactions. Finally, it is designed to be a potential living document - the first of its kind within the field. Unlike other white papers, this could be added to and modified based on the current literature and amended as newer drugs are discovered and made available. This document is intended to become a ‘go-to-guide’ for clinical anesthetic drug use that houses an in depth, yet condensed encyclopedia of the most pertinent, necessary information for primary care health professionals.

Introduction: Stroke is considered a growing health issue with high burden. The study was conducted among 258 participants in Soba university hospital, Ibrahim Malik teaching hospital, and Bahri teaching hospital. The study aimed to compare the clinical practice of the management protocol to the NICE guidelines for stroke 2016, and to determine the level of appropriate reporting of stroke management in the medical records. Materials and methods: Observational cross-sectional hospital-based study. Total coverage of stroke patients’ medical records in the period between February to March 2021. Data were coded, and analyzed by SPSS version 23. Results: About two third of the participants had their blood pressure lowered within the primary management. The hospitals were 100% adherent to secondary prevention measures’ guidelines. However, Lower adherence was reported for the early hospital management (81.4%) and the primary management (83.8%). Furthermore, there was marked under-documentation of cases in both primary and secondary management with only ( 35.4%) and (20.8% ) of stroke patients were reported respectively. Conclusion: Three-quarters of the participants received an emergency assessment by a specialist physician and were monitored closely. Moreover, The majority of the hemorrhagic stroke had their blood pressure lowered with minimum surgical intervention, this was explained by lack of adequate surgical infrastructure due to poor health finance in Sudan . Fortunately, high overall adherence rates to the stroke management guidelines were shown among different hospitals in this study. However, under-documentation of cases and their details was noticed.

Background: An increase or depletion of body iron has harmful effects on health. Apart from iron defi-ciency anemia and iron overload-related organ tissue damage, there are increasing evidences that body iron status is implicated in atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of iron deficiency in patients with acute ischemic stroke. Methods: The prospective, observational, cross secti-onal study included patients with diagnosis of acute ischemic stroke from August 20 th , 2016 to February 20 th , 2017. Detailed history, physical examination and biochemical measurements were recorded. Patients were followed to see for outcome variable such as iron deficiency anemia. Results: One hundred and forty-four (144) patients were included in this study with a male to female ratio of 2.2:1 and a mean age of 67.63 ± 3.103 years. The mean duration of stroke was 12.73 + 6.95 hours. Co-morbidities included diabetes mellitus in 58 (40.3%), hypertension in 72 (50%), hyperlipidemia in 30 (20.8%) and obesity in 44 (30.6%) patients. There were 30 (20.8%) patients with a history of blood transfusion. Iron deficiency anemia was recorded in 15 (10.42%) patients. Conclusion: Our study has revealed the presence of an iron deficiency anemia could be an underlying cause of ischemic stroke in 10.42% of patients requiring the need for assessment of iron profile and subsequently more aggressive management.
