The human hormonal regulatory system is expanding by several recently identified members, however, there are still many traditional hormones with poorly known functions. Examples for conventional regulatory molecules without clarified relevance include the oxytocin of the pituitary, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) of the adrenal cortex or calcitonin produced by the C-cells of the thyroid gland.

Digitalisation and the spread of technological innovation have revolutionised the retail sector. In recent years, a new trend has emerged in the form of checkout-free stores, pioneered by Amazon Go. It has replaced human intervention by using cameras, sensors and self-organising shelves. Several start-ups have now developed the technology. This paper focuses on retail out-lets that have adopted this innovation. It provides a literature review on the interpretation of the concept, a brief history and its diffusion.
