This study examined the influence of satisfaction from each body part in Japanese female youths on self-esteem and shyness. We hypothesized that body satisfaction in each body part has influence on shyness (social anxiety, social passivity) through self-esteem; and examined the hypothesis using path analysis. As a result, only the body satisfaction of "skin" has been shown to affect shyness and self-esteem. We conclude that body satisfaction especially in "Skin" has important influences on self-esteem and shyness in female youths. Key words: Body satisfaction, self-esteem, shyness, social anxiety, social passivity.

Midlife as a phenomenon is truly enigmatic. Oftentimes, it is associated with changing images and myths that include midlife crisis, change of life, the empty nest and many more. On the other hand, some revealed midlife to be simply a calm transition. This study then sought to explore the work concerns of the faculty midlifers of one of the prestigious universities of Cebu City, Philippines. Concerns at work are the aspects and events in their job as a faculty member which they perceived to cause anxiety, depression, and stress. The data of this research were collected through phenomenological case study using in depth face-to-face interviews (FFI) and a focus group interview (FGI). There were eighteen (18) participants who were purposely selected for the FFI. Another six (6) participants joined the FGI. Data garnered from the FFI and FGI were collated, transcribed and coded to find out their themes. From the themes of findings, meanings were formulated based on the theories of Havighurst and Erikson. This research revealed that teachers at midlife are committed to their profession but at times affected by the unsatisfactory performance of the students and lack of support from the administration. They likewise express their needs to continually update their knowledge to remain effective in their jobs. Key words: Concerns at work, faculty at midlife, Filipino teachers, midlife, phenomenology.

Limited research has examined the mental health of women living with HIV and AIDS in low and middle income countries such as India. This exploratory study examined distress and coping among twenty HIV positive women in rural southern India. Focus groups were conducted in Tamil, and coded for thematic content. Women were asked about hardships, support from the community, and preferred forms of coping. Several themes emerged including: social and familial rejection; difficulty meeting basic needs; concerns for the future of children; and interest in helping others in similar circumstances. Participants highlighted the importance of medication adherence and social support in maintaining physical and mental wellbeing. Future research should investigate these themes in a larger sample of HIV positive women in the region using mixed methods. Intervention strategies should also be explored to reduce HIV stigma, and increase community acceptance and social support for individuals struggling with HIV-related social exclusion. Key words: HIV and AIDS, India, mental health, women, stigma, coping.

Examination malpracticeis rated as one of the greatest problems that undermine the foundation of educational practicein Kenya today. The magnitude of the problem and the dangers posed bythe phenomenon have been identified by stakeholders as national malady that requires drastic solution. Thus, this study attempted to investigate the view of students about the psycho-social and school causes of and roles of guidance and counselling in addressing the malpractices in internal examination in Kakamega Central Sub-county. A total of three hundred and fifty nine students were randomly sampled from twelve schools selected at random for the study. Data were collected using researcher developed questionnaires. Four research questions were raised and answered using frequency counts, simple percentage and means scores. However, results indicated that poor study habits, laziness, lack of self confidence, family pressure to excel and host of others were considered by students as the major psycho-social causes ofexamination malpractice. Inadequate preparation for examination, poor teaching, overcrowded exam rooms and poor invigilation were considered by respondents as the causes of examination malpractice. On the roles of the school guidance and counselling units most of the respondents indicated that the G&C unit exists and talks to them about self esteem, peer pressue management, self confidence and that exam cheating is wrong. However, most of them did not agree that G&C can assist students involved in exam cheating to change. The psycho-social factors are the predisposing factors to exam malpractices while the school factors are the environmental causes. Most schools have active guidance and counselling units. However, these units do not seem to be effective in addressing the problems of malpractices in internal examinations in secondary schools. Based on these findings, it was recommended that students and teachers should be given enlightenment campaign that will highlight the consequences of examination malpractice. Also, government should sensitize all citizens to basic ethical values of selfworth, dignity of labour, integrity and personal responsibility. Professional guidance counselors should be employed and posted to secondary schools to help students in self understanding and self management as well as the development of effective study habits in relation to how they can utilize their assets and manage their abilities for optimal development. Further, all schools should be adequately equipped and staffed to address issues of overcrowding and poor invigilation. Key words: Examination malpractice, secondary schools students, counselling.

The aim of this work is to assess the effectiveness of infidelity therapy on improving mental health of betrayed women. Procedure of sampling was purposeful in which 15 wives (20-35 years old) who had experienced betrayal were participating in group psychotherapy sessions after preliminary interview. Fifteen betrayed women were included. Infidelity therapy sessions at three stages were held for them. They were assessed by “the spouse betrayal examination questionnaire” and “28-question form of Goldberg Public Health Questionnaire (GHQ)” at two pre-test and post-test stages. The most important reason of spousal betrayal was “seeking variety and having inclination to different sex partners”. Mean (standard deviation) total score of mental health improved significantly after infidelity therapy sessions at post-test stage (25.53 (17) vs. 17.86 (12.75); P = 0.001). There was significant effect of group psychotherapy sessions on improving mental health of the betrayed women. We recommend this behavioral technique in similar situations for betrayed women. Key words: Infidelity therapy, mental health, women.

The present research discusses the challenges to learning and its methodological principles posed by the new technologies. It will be argued that the integration of new media into learning is a necessary step ensuring the acquisition of the kind of teaching and learning needed for living and working in the knowledge society. In response to a growing dependency on IT technology, learning how to use the IT has become part of many public educational curricula. However, not all people receive their IT training in public schools. In recent years there has been increasing emphasis on IT training, often through community education programs or in-service training. In recent years, attitude towards Information Technology has been the subject of many studies, within different theoretical frameworks and methods. Information Technology (IT) is one for the issues that divides the world. The digital divide raises the imperative to set educational priorities for the use of IT in schools and to understand its efficacy in teaching and learning. It is essential to establish best practice worldwide so that scarce resources are used effectively. While the IT benefits include increased productivity, professional presentation of students' work, and an enriched learning environment, the implementation of IT does not constitute a panacea for all educational woes, and, if poorly instituted, can add to a school's problems and introduce a spate of new woes. New information and communication technologies and their role in learning processes are the topic of this paper, but constructivism as the appropriate paradigm for learning and teaching in the coming millennium will also be discussed. In addition, the paper proposes a typology and an evaluation of technology-enhanced materials for language learning. Key words: IT, Information Technology, teaching, learning.

Few studies have compared symptomatology and functional differences experienced by patients with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) across cultures. The current study compared patients with CFS from the United States (US) to those from the United Kingdom (UK) across areas of functioning, symptomatology, and illness onset characteristics. Individuals in each sample met criteria for CFS as defined by Fukuda et al. (1994). These samples were compared on two measures of disability and impairment, the DePaul Symptom Questionnarie (DSQ) and the Medical outcomes study 36-item short-form health survey (SF-36). Results revealed that the UK sample was significantly more impaired in terms of mental health and role emotional functioning, as well as specific symptoms of pain, neurocognitive difficulties, and immune manifestations. In addition, the UK sample was more likely to be working rather than on disability. Individuals in the US sample reported more difficulties falling asleep, more frequently reported experiencing a sudden illness onset (within 24 hours), and more often reported that the cause of illness was primarily due to physical causes. These findings suggest that there may be important differences in illness characteristics across individuals with CFS in the US and the UK, and this has implications for the comparability of research findings across these two countries.

This study investigated the influence of experienced traumatic event(s) (High/Low) and place of residence (on campus/off campus) on level of fear of crime among university students. The study adopted a cross-sectional survey design and gathered data from a randomly selected 281 University students. The sample comprises 184 (65.5%) males and 97 (34.5%) females. Hypotheses generated were tested using inferential statistics. The results showed that traumatic event(s) had significant relationship with fear of crime at (r= .394; .05]. Therefore, it was concluded in this study that traumatic event(s) and place of residence are significant independent determinants of fear of crime among university students. School management should hence design strategies which will help in containing crime incidence in university setting, and also try to build more residential male and female hostels on university campus. Key words: Fear of crime, traumatic experience and place of residence
