Stereoscopic vision or stereopsis is the highest level of binocular vision. It is acquired in the early years of life and requires the “simultaneous perception” of each eye separately, as well as the “matching” of the two images during brain development. First of all, it gives man the visual perception of depth, but it also broadens his field of vision and increases his visual acuity. As anyone can easily understand it is especially useful in everyday life. It is not particularly well known, but the quality of vision at night is based on stereotypes. Finally, people who do not have stereoscopic vision are in a difficult position as they are at immediate risk of injury. For the above reasons, it is clear why constipation should be controlled, with specific diagnostic tests, especially during childhood.

Ocular asthenopia associated with headaches and visual discomfort are the major complaints, clients have these days. Intensive near and digital works have brought many non-strabismic binocular vision disorders (NSBVD) in the clients. Convergence insufficiency (CI) is one of the most prevalent NSBVD. CI is a binocular vision dysfunction, characterized by the patient’s inability to accurately converge, or sustain accurate convergence when focusing on near objects. Apart from visual symptoms, CI is known to have effects on a children’s academics and a person’s daily life. In addition to visual discomfort, children with CI report symptoms affecting reading performance, such as loss of pace, loss of concentration, reading slowly, and trouble remembering what was read. Proper diagnosis of convergence insufficiency is simple, but it has been complicated by the unavailability of essential orthoptic tools; the attitude of practitioner and their knowledge adds to the hurdle. Why don’t we introduce term “CI Suspect” like “Glaucoma-Suspect” so that every individual if matches one or more criteria for CI diagnosis is subjected undergo a complete binocular single vision assessment? This will properly diagnose and manage the case and also make orthoptics as a proper sub-specialty for eye care practitioners.

Purpose: To describe the epidemiological and clinical profiles of childhood cataract seen at the Yaounde Central Hospital. Patients and methods: A retrospective descriptive study was car- ried out over a 7-year period (January 2013 to December 2019). Institutional ethical committee waived the need for individual parental consent based on the retrospective nature of the study. Data col lected from records were made anonymous and confidentiality was respected. Medical records of children aged 0 to 15 years, diag nosed of cataract were included. Variables studied include age, sex, presenting complaint, signs, laterality, cataract morphology, ocular abnormalities, associated systemic disease, presumed aetiology, acceptance of surgery and primary implantation. Results: During the study period, 56 children with cataracts were seen, amongst whom, 28 girls and 28 boys. Acquired cataract represented 37.5% of case. They were all unilateral and 90.5% were post-traumatic. Congenital cataract represented 62.5% of cases. They were bilateral in 67.7% of cases and were diagnosed at a mean age of 6.3 ± 3.9 years. Congenital cataract was an isolated finding in 94% of cases. Seven cases underwent surgery (5 bilateral congen ital and 2 unilateral post-traumatic). The median age at the time of surgery was 4 years. Conclusion: Late presentation is common, and the rate of sur - gery-uptake is low. We recommend the putting in place of measures to train personnel for both delivery room and routine baby check screening. The creation of subsidized reference ophthalmic centres with trained personnel and equipment could also help reduce cost and increase surgery uptake.

Dirofilariasis is a zoonotic filariasis primarily affecting canines. It may infect humans causing pulmonary infarcts, subcutaneous and subconjunctival nodules. Dirofilaria repens is the main species inplicated in subconjunctival lesions. Proper diagnosis and treatment can cure the patient of all his symptoms. Hence it is important to have a high index of suspicion about this emerging zoonosis. This is a case report of ocular Dirofilariasis from a tertiary care hospital in Thrissur, Kerala.

Introduction: Viruses can act in two ways, either by a direct pathogenic effect, or indirectly by inducing immunosuppression and favoring the action of other so-called opportunistic viruses. This survey had a double objective, describe the clinical aspects of viral ocular pathology and state its principles of treatment. Materials and Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study carried out over 2 years at the Ophthalmology department of the University Hospital of Brazzaville. Patients 18 years of age or older with viral ocular pathology were included. The diagnosis was made on the sole basis of anamnestic and / or clinical arguments. None of the viruses involved had been directly detected, with the exception of HIV. Biologically proven patients with a coinfection (bacteria, parasite, fungus) were excluded. HIV serology had been systematic. Four parameters were analyzed: type of virus, structures affected, pathologies diagnosed, anti viral treatments used. Results: Two hundred twenty-five (225) patients were included. The mean age was 44 ± 2.1 years. Sex ratio was 0.8. Viruses: Adenovirus (51.1%), Herpes zoster (19.5%), HIV (18.7%), Herpes simplex (7.5%), CMV (3.2%). Main structures affected: eyelid (86.2%), chorioretin (6.4%). Main pathologies: Adenovirus conjunctivitis (61.1%), shingles (16%), primary herpes simplex infection (8%) Keratitis (6.4%), chorioretinitis (6.4%), uveitis (2.1%). Anti viral treatments used: Valaciclovir, Ganciclovir and anti retroviral. Conclusion: Viral ocular pathology is dominated by Adenovirus conjunctivitis and infections due to 3 types of herpes viridae (Herpes zoster, Herpes simplex and CMV). These herpes viridae are generally responsible for opportunistic diseases following immunosuppression linked to HIV.

To describe emerging new OCT and Humphrey visual field findings is the objective of the study. A previously treated 20-year old female patient for skin rashes, hematuria, and pain abdomen 8 months ago reported with visual disruption in the right eye for the last one week. Features of leukocytoclastic vasculitis on skin biopsy and glomerular mesangial cell hyperplasia on renal biopsy inferred a clinical diagnosis of IgA nephropathy. Consequently, proteinuria manifested one month after administration of prednisolone 50 mg/day tapered for 8 months, Visual acuity of 6/9 in the right eye and 6/6 in the left eye with normal color vision recorded in addition to early signs of papilledema. Classically, on OCT, hyperreflective intense echoes discovered in the optic disc, and accordingly inferior hemifield defects established predominantly in the right eye on HFA. Total leucocyte count at11720 cells/cu mm and ESR 60 mm/hr by the Wintrobe method with the presence of albumin, RBCs, and pus cells on urine analysis in addition to positive occult stool blood detection. C3, C4, and ANCA panel revealed negative results and the USG abdomen disclosed fatty liver with mesenteric nodes. In conclusion, Optic disc drusenoid deposits corresponding with hemifield visual field defects detected in the current case study is possibly the associated early fundus manifestation of IgA nephropathy.

Introduction: The corneal surface is exposed to many external aggressions which can alter its transparency and regularity. Several keratoplasty techniques have been codified such as transfixing keratoplasty (KT) or deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (KLAP) or rotational auto graft. Our work was carried out in Senegal, in a context where corneal transplants were not frequently performed. The aim of our study was to report results one year after a keratoplasty. Patients and Method: We conducted a retrospective study of patients who underwent prior transfixing or lamellar keratoplasty or rotational auto graft. It was carried out between the ophthalmological clinic Aristide Le Dantec hospital and the ophthalmological center of Clinique du Cap in Dakar, Senegal. It included all records of patients with postoperative follow-up greater than or equal to 1 year. The parameters studied were anamnestic data, preoperative clinical examination (indication of corneal transplantation) and postoperative results. Results: Twenty-six eyes of 22 patients were identified. The decrease in visual acuity evolved on average for 5 years. The operative indications were mainly represented by results of pillow type keratitis (30.76%), bullous keratopathy (23.08%), and keratoconus (23.08%). Surgery consisted of a transfixing keratoplasty in 84.61%, lamellar in 15.39% of the cases. Comments: The primary objective of keratoplasty is to restore the transparency, it can also help to remedy pain or improve the anatomical and aesthetic prognosis of the eyeball. The benefits of keratoplasty in our context of developing countries are the reduced cost and shorter waiting time vis-à-vis western countries. Conclusion: The results of our study are encouraging for surgery, still practiced on a small scale in our regions.
