Maintaining oral hygiene is the key factor of maintain good oral health, which includes the health of the gingival tissue and the health of the periodontal tissue and avoiding adherence of plaque on the tooth surface. There are many methods through which oral health can be maintained, which includes mechanical methods along with chemical methods. The most common problem associated with the oral cavity tissue are the periodontal problems, furthermore there are so many factors that are associated with the progression of the periodontal disease. This article discuss the various associated factors that helps in progression of the periodontal disease.

Orthodontics is a constantly evolving science, with new biomaterials being invented regularly. Orthodontic archwires are an integral part of orthodontic fixed appliances and are necessary for the delivery of forces that brings about biologic tooth movement. As an orthodontist, one needs to have a thorough understanding of the various biomaterials available to make maximum use of these archwires and achieve clinical success. This article discusses the newest orthodontic archwires and evaluates the literature that pertains to these newer archwires.

Predictable endodontic therapy begins with good access preparation, which allows for the accurate location of any given orifice, facilitating the negotiating, securing, and shaping of the canal, as well as 3D disinfection and filling of the root canal system. Missed, unfilled, and untreated root canals have been identified as one of the leading causes of endodontic therapy failure in several investigations. With the advent of CBCT, magnification, ultrasonics and other diagnostic and treatment adjuvants, searching for and treating root canals has become easier and more predictable.

Obstructive sleep apnea, a disorder in which people stop or restrict their breathing while sleeping, is becoming more common. This lead to restless, disrupted sleep, which can cause headaches in the morning and exhaustion in the afternoon. Obstructive sleep apnea affects people of all ages, however it is more common among persons over the age of 60. As a result, the correct diagnosis is essential for effective treatment. This review discusses a variety of diagnostic processes, including as screening questionnaires, sleep tests, and other diagnostic approaches, in order to demonstrate how correct diagnosis might aid in the development of a more effective treatment plan.

Palatoradicular groove is an important anatomic factor that presents accessibility problems and worsens the prognosis of periodontal disease. Palato-radicular groove is a rare developmental anomaly with prevalence rate of 2.8-8.5%. Most commonly affected tooth is the maxillary lateral incisor (93.8%). Palatoradicular groove may present as a radiolucent para pulpal line, radiographically. Treatment of radicular groove presents a clinical challenge to the operator. Removal of local predisposing factor is of prime importance. This case report presents the management of the periodontal defect associated with palatoradicular groove incorporating periodontal flap surgery with bone graft and GTR.

In spite of the tremendous improvements in technology that allow for fewer patients to require extractions, there are always patients who have significant enough crowding that ultimately necessitate the removal of premolars. Alleviating the lower anterior crowding prior to placement of the fixed appliances shortens the time in braces, and allows self correction by natural drift. One such treatment strategy which allows all this is Driftodontics. This paper is intended to bring forth the clinical advantages of driftodontics by showing some of our cases which achieved efficient results.

: The study was done to analyse parent’s understanding about their child's dental health in the first dentist visit, with a particular focus on the internet's impact on parents of preschool children.: This survey was conducted among 800 parents of pre-school children enrolled in various schools from Rishikesh. A pre-validated questionnaire was distributed among participants. Participants were given questionnaires written in English and the local Hindi language before and after the educational intervention to assess oral health-related awareness of the parents regarding their child's oral health.: From the total sample, 35% had poor knowledge score before the educational intervention and 100% had good knowledge score after the educational intervention. The current study concluded that higher levels of oral health education and awareness would lead to better oral health status in children. When the parental KAP score was compared before and after educational intervention, there was a statistically significant difference seen. Health care providers/dentists should organise activities such as parental guidance, lectures, and mass education in home wellness centres to develop knowledge to promote good oral health.

Diagnosis of an important part of orthodontic treatment. Although many cephalometric analyses have been devised to determine the degree of anteroposterior skeletal discrepancies, effective treatment planning and assessment must be based on accurate measurement using stable and reproducible reference planes. The purpose of study was to evaluate the clinical usefulness of maxillomandibular bisector, its reproducibility, and validity, and relationship to functional occlusal plane, bisecting occlusal pane.Pre-treatment lateral cephalograms of 30 adult patients (age 18 or above) were selected. Various Angular & Linear measurement were recorded. Present study showed MM bisector plane, FOPPM is more reproducible and valid reference point than BOPMM, BOPPM.

Streptococcus mutans has been long associated with initiation of dental caries. Nevertheless, dental caries is also seen in its absence, indicating the role of another micro-organism.To evaluate and compare the presence of Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) and Scardovia wiggsiae (S. wiggsiae) in children from predentate to permanent dentition period using polymerase chain reaction. 80 children aged between 0 to 14 yrs., were divided into 8 groups of 10 each. Unstimulated salivary samples were collected from children of predentate to permanent dentition period with and without dental caries, which served as experimental and control groups respectively. The samples were compared and evaluated for S. wiggsiae & S. mutans. 2ml of unstimulated saliva samples were collected in a sterile 50ml graduated container & swab method was used to collect saliva from infants below 6-months of age & swabs were placed in MTM medium & stored at 20° C followed by DNA extraction procedure. The present study showed that both S. mutans and S. wiggsiae were present in the predentate period & gradually increased upto mixed dentition period. However, both the organisms decreased in permanent dentition group. In primary, mixed & permanent dentition control groups, S. mutans counts was significantly greater than S. wiggsiae, whereas in the experimental group S. wiggsiae was significantly higher than S. mutans. S. mutans could be the commensal and S. wiggsiae could be the major etiological organism in progression of dental caries.

This case report aims to analyze the treatment outcome of receding gums with coronally advanced flap (CAF) with/without an autologous platelet rich fibrin (PRF).Two patients with localized Miller’s class I gingival recession reported to the department of Periodontology, Seema Dental College and Hospital, Rishikesh, were selected for coronally advanced flap with/without autologous platelet rich fibrin for aesthetic purpose. At baseline, 1 and 3 month treatment outcome was assessed by following clinical parameters such as recession depth (RD), recession width (RW), clinical attachment level (CAL), keratinized tissue width (WKT).Recession depth (RD), Recession width (RW), Clinical attachment level (CAL), Width of keratinized tissue (WKT) shows significant improvement in patient with platelet rich fibrin at 1 month & 3 months.Coronally advanced flap along with PRF shows that it is a predictable treatment modality for localized Miller's class I recession defects.
